Nvidia have a subscription system that is similar to PS+, you pay a monthly fee and have access to several games as part of your fee. These are PC games, which are streamed to Shield devices.
YOU DO NOT NEED A PC. Games are streamed direct from the cloud. You will obviously need an internet connection though
If you own a Shield you can have a 3 month free trial, after which the monthly fee is $7.99. However you can cancel at any time, so make sure you cancel before 3 months are up!
What's also interesting is that the trial is per shield device, so if you have more than one you could have more than one trial
There are 65 games currently available, most of which are fairly old but a lot of good titles. See next post for a link to all of them, but they include:
Batman: Arkham Origins / Asylum / City
Various Lego titles
Borderlands
Dead Island
Witcher 2
Tomb Raider
To sign-up:
1. Go to your SHIELD device
2. Log in to GeForce NOW
3. Start playing PC games instantly
When you sign-up you do need to give credit card details. I believe these will only be used if you do not cancel after the 3 month trial is up
Happy gaming!!

Not sure tbh. Suspect this is the shield equivalent.
Give it a go but I doubt it. The trial is per shield device, so guessing it logs the serial number of the shield when you sign up
If this was in freebies then people would complain that it's not free as you have to own a shield to get it, which costs money...

Problem is, they don't have a very good selection of games. That's why, since I bought the thing over a year ago, I still haven't activated my trial.

Only one game P.O.L.L.E.N is worth more than the subscription fee and that was met with mixed reviews, if space marine is still in the top 10 featured your streaming service might need some new games.

I think there are a lot of good games available myself. Only problem is that there are no new games in the selection. Still to be able to play any of them on a table without needed to download and install them is great IMO

Yes good point. I meant to put in the post you do need to give credit card details when you sign-up. I will add now thanks.
Cancelling is easy according to the FAQ:
HOW DO I CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP?
You can cancel your membership on your SHIELD device under GeForce NOW > Settings > Billing

I subscribed when I bought my shield in January and have just cancelled it (which is a simple process).
The reason was that the game selection is very poor. Tomb Raider is still one of the most popular "new" games. They stopped releasing free to members games instead opting for charging around £10-20 for that weeks release.
There's no denying it's an ambitious project with relatively successful results (the streams run at 1080p at 60fps) which rarely suffer but with no multiplayer and no licences for the most popular games it wasn't for me.
I ended up buying a PS4 to resolve this but with that said the shield is a brilliant set top box, just very limited for gaming unless you use the gamestream option.

I took the plunge with this a while ago. I'm a very casual gamer so this more than suits my needs.
I can see this being the future of gaming. It works very well. Will more likely be Sony or Microsoft that will give it legs though.

I took the trial some time ago. I didn't spend as much time with it as I would have liked but I have to say from my limited use the results were very mixed even on a fast 50mb fibre connection (Virgin Media) with an ethernet cable direct to the Shield. I kept getting poor signal icon warnings on screen (like the bars on a phone) and games seemed to take a while to start and had noticeable compression artifacts.
The same connection worked perfectly with Playstation Now (I was on the Beta).
There could have been an issue with my set up and despite the issues I'd still highly recommend the Shield TV itself, but I definitely wouldn't subscribe to Geforce now despite the decent games library.

I just tried I out too. It's not as good as running the game locally. I thought the whole point was you could run the game on max settings, as it run on a beefy machine and streamed to your box? However, reducing the graphics settings increased the frame rate, which is odd. Thought they'd be running it on a Titan X SLI server or something!

ive been using it for over a year now on an Asus rtn66u router with 200mb broadband and it's been flawless. they do say for [email protected] you need a minimum of 50mbps stable......I think in years to come it will be the future for a lot of consoles to run this way but right now we just don't have the infrastructure

Just tried it on my (little used) Shield Portable. Despite no evidence of the device ever existing on their website, they still seem to support it with updates, which is nice.
The local game streaming (from my gaming PC) works very well; but I've found little reason to use it. Something like NOW would potentially allow me to do away with the need for a gaming PC - but that's in the distant future - their selection isn't good enough at this point.
The service does perform well on our rural 30MB fibre connection (over Wifi). There are noticeable compression artefacts; but the general impression of quality on a screen that small is quite good. Lag is evident but not problematic. It's rather impressive actually when you think about how the service works.
However it appears to be impossible to enter text on this device, so in 'Grid' when I was asked to enter a player name, I couldn't do so. I suspect this would cause bigger issues in certain titles.
The biggest problem on the Shield Portable appears to be very slow navigation in the Geforce NOW interface. It takes AGES to load a list of games to view, while other parts of the interface are lightning fast.
I also just tried to cancel the trial/subscription from the 'Settings > GEFORCE NOW > Billing' menu, but it keeps coming up with a store error. I suspect it is failing because I only signed up within the last hour. I'll try again later today/tomorrow.
