This deal requires applying the code "TDX-KHTX", the hyphen must be included (Code is for £20 off spends of £150 or more on Electricals at Tesco Direct -- http://www.tesco.com/direct/special-offer/save-20-on-selected-electricals-and-gaming-when-you-spend-150-or-more-by-entering-code-tdx-khtx-at-checkout/promo40560055.promo). It works on both the Metallic Black and Metallic Blue versions of the New 3DS XL as well as the Fire Emblem Fates Edition (down to £155 from £175).
I couldn't find a better deal elsewhere and as the New Nintendo 3DS are seemingly always out of stock at Tesco for £139, for an extra £10 I think this is a great deal!
Remember, these do not come with a charger!

New 3DS are very overpriced, but this is definitely a hot deal.
can see these being dropped come March if the recent NX rumours are to be believed.

Yeah I think so. No backwards compatibility it seems.

I had my eyes on the Fire Emblem edition for a long time, and at £175 I just kept on hesitating, until now.
£155 is a very good price, relative to its regular price and cheapest I saw at Amazon (around £180).

I'm tempted to go for the standard size but no idea what to buy with it to get the price to £150 or over. The only games I'm really interested in are a Link to the Past and AC New Leaf but Tesco do neither. They also don't seem to do any cases and the charger is £3 for delivery.

As the metallic black & blue XL are out of stock, I decided to go for the Fire Emblem XL edition for £155. It came with 10.3 firmware

Why does the firmware matter?

For stuff like homebrew and custom firmware; which allows you to play games from any region, ability to run game emulators (PS1, SNES, NES, Genesis, and much more), there's even a eShop clone called 'FreeShop' which lets you download every game "free" - if you're that way inclined.

Seriously, how old is this machine now, this is way too overpriced considering a Rasberry Pi is like 10x more powerful. Probably it's that stupid 3D screen that adding to the cost, they should release a new handheld already.

What, like the 2DS?

I thought this expired yesterday?

Yes, but not cheese-wedge shaped, better screen quality and better CPU, better everything. Basically a new handheld, although I guess that's what the NX will be.
Regardless £150 for 3DS at this point seems absurd.

Ah okay and with the freeshop games can you still play online?
danbo360
9 Aug 16#23
Yes they work online, just like games from the eShop. Freeshop actually downloads the games from Nintendo's servers; the freeshop app basically gives you a ticket, this ticket makes it appear as though you previously purchased this game, hence the reason why you can download it directly from Nintendo servers.
