Just popped along to my local Netto ( I realise not everyone has one) for weekly meat/fruit deals..Hammered in store..everything 1/2 price except Fresh meat, Veg & Flowers, alcohol is reduced roughly around 25-30%..No confirmed close date is given, just that it will be sometime in august..& they are still replenishing shelves!!
People seem to want to blame brexit voters for everything it seems, Internet shopping decimated the high street more than leaving the EU will and how many people who voted to remain shop via the Internet., hypocrites????. This country survived before the EU and can survive after it. We're out now and negative backbiting won't help the country

The idiots have made their decision, certainly. By a pretty narrow margin and based on lies and prejudice. But the consequences which they didn't understand, and which will come back to bite them, are only now starting to unfold. Article 50 hasn't yet been invoked. There's still time to stop the disaster.

We're not out
Everyone who campaigned to go out has resigned
Every promise that was made was backtracked, and mostly on the same weekend: NHS money, immigration limits
There was never a plan for what to do next, but the most likely scenario is becoming part of the European common market, so we pay the same money and obey the same rules but with no input
They are only closing those stores opened in partnership with Sainsburys.

Just less than 2 weeks, did anyone expect the citizens of UK wanted to exit the EU? It did as I was as who would know what the future holds. It's very clear the retailers are already adjusting their business policies to adapt to this uncertain economic climate with cut backs & offloading extra overheads to protect their main core business to stay afloat.

Its happened because Sainsburys only reopened them in the wrong places and have now have to raise the £2b for them to purchase Argos

Sainsburys wanted to buy Argos before the comment made above, in May.

I would have dismissed that as hyperbole, had I not been searching for more info on the story and found this.
So in May, they were going to announce in November what they were going to do. Something happened in the meantime. Could have been Brexit, could be something else.

No, not the case, surprisingly- as I left there, 5.30ish, they had someone outside not letting people in, as they should have closed at 5, but also saying they'd be open at 9am today
The issue there seemed to be that it isn't set up like Lidl/Aldi, to whip ppl through the tills- everyone had to pack their shopping at the till. As everyone had a big trolley full, it took ages, with queues that blocked the aisles and took ages to move. Tbh, even though ppl were fraught, there was a good sense of camaraderie, with ppl helping each other out with locating and passing stuff to others, but I wasn't half glad to get out! No intention of going back today either

Doesnt make sense it closed due to Brexit. As surely if people supposedly have less money then the budget stores would be more needed. Aldis,Lidls are thriving. maybe its due to those stores than Brexit.

You'd hope so, wouldn't you. I see the Tata Steel sale's yet another Brexit casualty - a self-inflicted wound by a lot of the less intelligent workers.
Brexit uncertainty
In a statement Tata said it had considered the bids for the UK business in detail and that they had also been reviewed "in the light of the uncertainties caused by the UK referendum and the outcome of the UK Government's consultation on the British Steel Pension scheme."
It added: "Taking the above issues into account, the Board of Tata Steel has decided to also look at alternative and more sustainable portfolio solutions for the European business."

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's denied that the closure was linked to Britain's recent vote to leave the EU.
Newbold
9 Jul 16#62
Which is nonsense of course, given the reasons also explained :
Mike Coupe, Chief Executive of Sainsbury's, said: "To be successful over the long term, Netto would need to grow at pace and scale, requiring significant investment and the rapid expansion of the store estate in a challenging property market."
And the challenging property market? A direct result of Brexit with property funds closing for withdrawals every day!
Lets not forget that the remain campaign was also poorly handled. While I didn't personally vote since I didn't want my opinion to affect the whole country one way or another based on propaganda from either side (it's a much bigger issue than most people after all), the argument for leaving was whether the long term impact would benefit us. Short term hiccups are to be expected just after the announcement and the long term effects are too early to really tell. Honestly doing all this backpedalling after the economy already tanked is probably making it worse. One thing that has come out of this referendum is shown how childish and ignorant people can be when things don't go their way.
While there may be some uninformed people and racists voting for the wrong reasons to leave, there were also uninformed people voting to remain too. You say idiots voted to leave due to prejudice, but isn't that what you're doing by painting everyone with the same brush? You seem to be same just on a different side of the fence than the people you're trying to accuse.
