Are these any good? I'm thinking of getting rid of my crappy iPhone - is this a contender or a chump?

For the price this is an excellent phone! The speakers and screen are the highlights for sure. But the big letdown is the battery life in my case.
So I went the opposite to you and went to an Iphone 6S. Now I can last a full day of exactly the same use at least.

Very happy with mine but if you are a heavy user be prepared to charge the battery during the day as it is not stellar.

I did not get on with this phone at all, preferred my lg g4. currently on the HTC 10 and love it, although it's more expensive.

Argh to see this today - just paid £359 on Saturday for a Samsung S6 for my wife, and this meets or exceeds those specs for £100 less.

Build, camera and chipset are streets ahead on the S6. Although this is a lot of phone for the money.

S6 is better. Worth it for the ideal size, style, camera and amoled screen. As long as battery life isnt too big of an issue for u

I just purchased the moto g4 as a downgrade to my broken LG G3 (no relation). This would have been a better choice as a replacement. Added heat.

Anyone have any comments on this vs the X Play?
I've not been keeping abreast of smartphones.

This has a better processor and 1GB more of ram so will be faster, however I bought the X Play 5 months ago for £200 and it is fantastic. I'm not sure you will notice a huge difference in speed when using day to day browsers, twitter, youtube etc but will appreciate it if playing graphically intensive games.
One thing I would said is that I prefer the screen on the X Play. I went to Carphone Warehouse before I bought it and the screen was nicer in my opinion. The X Style seemed to have a yellowish hue to it which was not as appealing. Just my opinion, others may disagree.
One downside to Moto phones is the cameras aren't that great. Great outdoors but poor in low lighting conditions. Don't be fooled by the 21 megapixels. Best camera phones at the moment are Galaxy S7 and the iphone 6S plus, both of which are 12 megapixel.
But for £250, worth the extra £50 over the X play.

Screen shatters too easily, had it fixed and shattered again from a drop of less than a foot! Bought yet another new screen and it is now coming unstuck and lifting off the phone. Absolute nightmare.
Flogging it for 150 pounds, enough is enough.

Maybe stop dropping it then? Can't really be mad at something for breaking if you drop it on the ground.. Or at least put a case on it if you know you're going to be dropping it.

Phones fall this can't be helped. I've dropped my galaxy s4 multiple times and it still works fine with a screen crack, the moto x style's screen shatters (not a crack) and the digitizer fails so you can't even use the phone until the screen is replaced.
Worse still you have to glue your new screen to the thin plastic frame because that's how this phone is made, araldyte, superglue, e6000/e7000 all fail!
Seriously regret buying this, had to go back to my sturdy old s4.

Its funny that, I've dropped my Moto x style hard onto concrete slabs in my garden multiple times with only dings in the outer metal work. Was very impressed with durability

Have owned one for around 4 months now - did like it at first but has the usual android niggles.
Good -
Close to stock android, not really bloatware at all
Notifications when screen is locked is hands down the best system ive ever seen
Shortcuts are really helpful - camera one works very well but torch gesture is temperamental
Quick charge - phone charges completely in around 45 minutes , you'll need this!
Great screen and resolution
Comfortable to hold
Seems durable - dropped it a couple of times but no scratches , although had a body armour type case
Front facing flash - useful at times
Front facing dual speakers are awesome
Bad
Usual android lag after a few months of ownership. Really slow these days
Gets really hot randomly and when turbocharging
Camera is average (I usually use my 808 for photos so a bit unfair)
Temperamental WiFi and Bluetooth connections
The motovoice is helpful, read texts when driving but such a pain to reply and for commands
Ugly
One of the worst battery lives I've encountered in a smartphone. Was using it this morning and went from 100 to 45 percent in around 45 minutes.
I paid 250 for this around 4 months ago. I wouldn't pay this for it now. Would by the one plus 3 instead. Moto z looks interesting but the removal of the headphone socket is a bit of a disaster.
