No idea, what that is. What swung this one for me was a combination of price, good battery life, optional fast charger which I have purchased at £25, allowing a 6 hour charge in 15 minutes!!! and DUAL SIM which is awesome so I dont have to carry an additional business phone. I guess you need to look at the spec and what you need!

I have a 5x, usb C annoys me, seemed like a good idea at the time, and no wireless charging - I just assumed it had before purchasing. Camera also seems slower (compared to my old SU6) and no microsd so I'm now wishing I went for the 32gb model (actually I'm wishing I bought another SU6). I'd probably for for this.

Seems a bit expensive compared to how the original moto G was priced and to the equally capable and often £100 priced SU6. No doubt tesco or asda will come out with some sort of £125 deal. Maybe the camera is slightly better than the su6, this also has a gyroscope for you cardboard fans, no NFC though unlike SU6. Smart ultra 7 looks like a step backwards, as many feared with its crap battery life, somehow poorer screen and camera and dodgy mediatek chipset.

1 Jul 16 1 #17
Would recommend this phone, I have the plus version but if you have no need for better camera this is ideal. Can't fault it yet, only thing missing for some people is NFC and android pay. Top phone was considering S6 saved a lot of dosh without loosing any significant functionality that I would miss. Hot deal, great find!

chancooluk
1 Jul 16 1 #27
Yes it will be worth it for most of those reasons, especially where software upgrades are concerned. I'm not sure what you mean by extra cores? The SD617 SOC is only slightly different to the SD615 SOC in the SU6, both utilise octa-core A53 CPU's.

I am in the same boat. I bought a Moto X Play and am struggling to get to grips with the size of it. The Moto G is a bit bigger still. I thought 5" was too big when I bought my Moto G Gen 2 but got used to it. I have a feeling I am going to struggle with the 5.5" though. The Z5 compact but I want dual SIM. The Moto X can be sent back as it's from Amazon.... pondering.

Camera might make it more worthwhile. Can't see advantage of 5ghz on a phone, has poorer signal penetration compared to 2.4. might suffer from less interference though, not like you'll be viewing 4k content. Also has no NFC, so no android pay. Not seen camera but might be better and you get marshmallow. I went from a SU6 to a 5x as mine broke, doesn't feel like an upgrade, especially poor battery life.

X Play has over G4 : Moto voice control, NFC, slightly smaller, compass, bigger battery

I have the Moto X Play 16GB/2GB dual sim and have just got the Moto G4 Plus 32GB/2GB dual SIM (and previously Moto 1st Gen, Moto 2nd Gen)
The X Play and G4 Plus seem to perform almost identically when opening apps, webpages, voice searches - there's nothing between them. Overall performance seems very close, battery life is not yet determined as I'm not yet using the G4 Plus day to day but it's been running without any SIMs in it since 11am 30th June and battery says 72% remains so I'm hoping the 3000mAh battery will be as good, or close to the excellent Moto X Play which has a 3600mAh if I recall.

Screen quality is near identical but the X Play is whiter, the G4 Plus is more yellowish when the 2 are side by side. Case wise the X Play is slightly smaller height wise by a few mm.

The fingerprint scanner is great, really good to press to quickly unlock the phone, that feature is probably going to make me move over to the phone from the X Play.... I thought it was a gimmick but one handed simple unlock is great.

Turbo charger is included with G4 Plus, it's not with the X Play.

I've just got this cheapo S Line case and glass protector, case is ok and glass went on nicely without bubbles and lines up pretty well, for the price is good. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272136885359?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=571082973303&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The reason I have the G4 Plus is that my company bought it for me as I've been using my own X play dual SIM.

I'd say if you have the 3rd gen it may not be worth the upgrade but having had the 2nd gen, I'd say go for it (I wasn't impressed with my dual sim 2nd gen)

That's what I was just thinking. its like a tablet. Sometimes its nice to just put the phone in your pocket. I've got the moto 2 gen. Was waiting for the new one and disappointed. Now got to pay out much more for a smaller screen.

For those thinking about the Nexus 5x, go in to car phone warehouse and have a look at the screen. To me it always looked a bit washed out and you have to turn the brightness up to near max. A pity because it has better specs and above all else a finger print scanner which I really miss after my iphone 6.

I have had the moto x play for a while now and it is excellent. This is pretty much the same phone so I would say this is a great deal.

Regarding the large screen size. I went from an iPhone with a 4.7 inch screen. The 5.5 took a few days to adjust to but I would never go back to a smaller phone now.

For the money this is a great phone although if you good stretch to £300 or so the oneplus 3 is a no brainer and probably my next phone.

I have a G2 Moto G and it's great, got it for £96, but this one looks so much better specced. The camera on the older versions is exceedingly average to be kind, not to mention the much improved screen and processor. If I needed a replacement I would happily pay the extra £50

seattle
2 Jul 16 #81
Have you tried these two in store? the z3c is short and chunky while the moto g4 is long thin and fairly wide.. It could come down to be a usability issue (handling , and more viewing space).

Camera wise I cant comment but the z3c was a solid performer when released.. If youre not fussed about night time shots both should do fine.

Android wise, if you arent bothered about an older or skinned version of android then fine.

As far as versus goes, you can start piling it up.. Lg G4's can be had at 180-190 as grade b used , lg 5x's at 180 for the smaller version (but they haver their own issues) Samsung S6's at 200 but without sd card etc. I get that these are slightly more expensive but it comes down to bang for the "buck" as they say.

I recommend you go to store and at least see how each feels..
Hope it helps

Just found that on my G4 Plus that both SIMs are 3G at the same time or 3G and 4G....not sure if the same applies to this G4 version - now this may be very useful to those with a Three network SIM because nearly all dual SIM phones are only capable of 3G/4G on one SIM card and the other is 2G only meaning a Three SIM won't work as 2G SIM. I feel this is a massive step forward for anyone who uses dual SIM phones.

2 Jul 16 #86
The Moto G's primary markets are Brazil / Latin America / India, and launch there first. Considering the lower income of those people, they tend to purchase a single, larger device to use as phone and computer. Hence why these phones are the size they are - and will continue to remain large.

you're on a deals site...that offers free stuff. cool or not if i can save money (and not follow the icannotbeseenwithandoutdateiphone crowd), who are you to question what i choose to buy and have money left over! just because you can buy an iphone, doesn't mean you can afford one

did you know that apple watches sell for £8k-->14k, they don't sell them in their shops, but in high end retailers as they want people that can actually afford them instead of those that can only pay on a monthly basis

The appeal of Veblen goods lies in their exclusive nature, their “snob appeal.” They are desired mostly because the hoi polloi (that's us common folk) can’t afford them. The higher the price, the less accessible they become to the mass market. Owning a Veblen product sends an unmistakable message: “I’m richer than you.”...whereas having and iPhone "i'm likely to have more debts than you".

Comparing this to my Honor 4x it looks like only a compass is missing between the two. Is that a problem? Other than that, it looks like a good upgrade. The small amount of memory on the Honor is becoming an issue for me now.
doveman007
3 Jul 16 1 #124
No compass seems like a major omission, as it means navigation apps can't tell which way you're facing. Being able to use my phone to find my way around is far more important than NFC (I also look for Glonass as well as GPS, as it helps get a faster lock). I might have to upgrade from my Moto G 2nd gen dual-sim to 3rd gen dual-sim but it depends on whether it does 3g+3g instead of the 2nd gen's 3g+2g, which is rubbish IMO.

I don't think the 3rd gen has a compass either so check first!
I agree that this is a serious omission and probably saves them pennies in production costs, why oh why did they remove something so useful? - nearly every other feature of it suits my needs, the excellent 3G+3G dual sim is way better than my Moto X Play or Moto G 2nd gen dual sim phones but I might miss the compass, only time will tell I guess.

Are you sure this one is 3g plus 3g dual sim ? or is that not on the plus model ?
spannerzone
3 Jul 16 #130
No I can't be sure, some suggest it is, others suggest it's not.

The XiaoMi Redmi Note 3 pro prime is better than this phone and it is cheaper. Better camera, more ram, extremely quick fingerprint scanner and the CPUs are not actually that much worse and are more likely to be just the same in terms of performance.

That doesn't account for the fact the other moto G's were a smaller size so your theory can't be correct. More likely Lenovo has taken over. They could still make a smaller phone as they have a range of phones.

3 Jul 16 1 #136
and not available from reputable UK suppliers with full guarantee and doesn't allow 2 SIMs and a microSD card to be used at the same time and doesn't have all UK 4G frequencies covered. Horses for courses.

Out of interest how does the Redmi handle dual SIM calling? Does it allow you to set a default SIM for each number called? It's pretty important for me as if it doesn't I don't think it will work with handsfree in car dialing.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. Others have said to try calling or use paypal (at an extra £2 charge). I've just left it until they sort the site out

3 Jul 16 #138
I dont agree... Moto G is a bit behind the times really...
Its a great phone but 5.5 was last year, this year the trend is for 5.2 screens, think phone companies realise that some are put off by huge screens!
Really dont think its anything to do with markets etc
jake113
3 Jul 16 #139
1st Gen was 4.5in, 2nd / 3rd Gen was 5in. 4th Gen is 5.5in (ignoring the Play version) - that looks to me like it's catering for a market that wants larger and larger screens.

The decision to go with 5.5in could be interpreted as being "out of touch" with what you and western markets want, or delivering exactly what the Latin American / India markets want.

I'm very tempted. Witch trials put me off a bit, I thought they were historically judged a Bad Thing.
john_mac83
4 Jul 16 #143
I tried ordering a few times and the purchase just wouldn't go through although the bank had allocated the funds to appliances direct each time I tried. The online chat confirmed there is no order and I won't be charged but admitted there is an issue with their payment service so might be worth calling if you want the phone (others have said they needed to use paypal at an additional charge). Obviously you lose out on cashback too. Remember the delivery charge is £4.95 not £2.95 as stated in the description and from what others have said, the black is not dual sim only the white.
dave80
4 Jul 16 #144
The only bad thing I can see about the trial is that you can't cancel it with a simple click, you have to call or email.

4 Jul 16 #145
I tried to order 3 times over various browsers, as I was experiencing the same fault as others and the site was glitching when trying to authorise my card details.
In the end I paid successfully by PayPal but I've now got the money missing from my "available" bank balance, and also showing up with a receipt in my PayPal summary! their customer services insist I've only got one order and it's the debit card one! even tho I have a PayPal receipt

as for the cancelling of the which magazine subscription that was no worries at all and only took one email
dave80
4 Jul 16 1 #147
I have just sent an email to cancel my subscription and I got a reply almost immediately, so it looks like nobody should face issues cancelling the subscription, if that's what they want (and I assume most will).

Arrived today sans filter :disappointed:

... but the phone is a revelation: good screen, nice and slim, HERE maps makes it a good sat nav.

Only downside with Android is lots of apps run ads which I'm not used to. Otherwise it's brilliant. Thanks for posting this.

I just called appliances direct to find out if they have any product <£1 to use with the WHICH offer, the very nice lady on the phone said it wasn't required, and she could place the order over the phone with the WHICH code - so have just bought the wife the white Moto G4 for £134.92 (including delivery).

Had mine working now for a few days, it does random stuff now and then.

I can be typing on facebook messanger, then it just decides to spend 3-4 mins typing and sending random text. It seems to type, then delete it, autocorrect, then send...

Weird..
