Who doesn't cheap out these days?
I used to buy karrimore, cheap but still made well. obviously not anymore, moved on to _bigger_ brands(and price) and it seems no better...

I have read soo many reviews saying the same. I hope my Capras wont succumb to that but if they do , they to will be returned as faulty and not fit for purpose.

These are horrendous on wet surfaces. If you fancy a slip then these are the shoes for you.

You right. I bought chameleons with gore-tex , they are waterproof but you will slip on any rock or branch or basically any material in rain.

Yep, a lot of people are still naively buying shoes, walking boots, trainers on the brand names but, as said, many of them are churning them out cheaply from China.
I have lost count of well-known, expensive brands that I have bought which are supposeldy waterproof and they arrive with loads of holes around the sole - so much for water-proof.

A lot of these expensive brands are very cheaply made in China these days and living on long past quality reputations. I have sent so many pairs of Merrels back for literally falling apart within weeks that I will no longer even consider the brand.

I agree, its a real shame and doesnt matter how much you spend these days the quality is terrible.

Like others have said the sizing is poor - my size is 9 so I tried 10 and they were still too tight. Probably need a size and half larger than usual for Merrell,

The sizing is strange (at least in the bigger sizes). I'm size 12 but know the 12 in these are too small so ordered a 13 which were too big so was certain the 12.5 would be spot on but they were too small too. There should be 4mm difference between half sizes but there's at least 10mm difference between the 12.5 and 13 (it actually gives the size in cm's on the box and there's 1cm between the 12.5 and 13). So there's at least 1 size difference between the 12.5 and 13, probably more

I have two pairs and no issues when worn during heavy showers or getting a bit splashed. Socks always dry.
Best walking shoes for me and very durable.

These aren't Gore-tex but i have 2 pairs of Merrell gore-tex shoes and they have been good for waterproofness. From what I've read though the gore-tex is just upper membrane so sole needs to not let water in.

Ive just returned them to Amazon, no quibbles after 6 months use.

Despite me jumping ship from The North Face, I had a pair of TNF Hedgehogs for 5 years and loved them. I then bought the newer TNF Hedgehogs with the gum rubbers which are a huge let down on my last pair and I have returned them after 6 months as the glue is separating from the rubber but they are extremely waterproof.
I would in that case try The North Face Hedgehog Fastpack Gore-tex , I should have bought these firstly as they are more like my original 5 year old pair.
If your in no rush you can find them for about £60.

Remember to size up with merrells.
Ive just bought a pair of Merrell Capra as my TNF Hedgehogs gave up after only 6 months so I thought I'd jump ship.
The only negative I can find with Merrells is that there are a lot of people saying they are definitely not waterproof despite being Goretex etc.

did you complain to TNF about the hedgehogs? I've just bought a pair on the recent zalando deal, not worn them yet but they don't look like they're made very well.

I'm looking for another pair of mids, something like the Moab but I dont want or need the goretex. I bought a pair a couple of years ago for £40 from Gooutdoors and they did the job - I wanted something light for a trip To South America and, whilst they were nowhere as good as my Meindl's they were nice and light, comfy and my feet didn't get too hot.

i must admit i love merrells but would have to say on pairs ive bought recently at low prices don't seem as good quality as before, and i find that most pairs i have are slippy on wet floors

Agreed on the sizing up, I normally take a size 9 but in Merrells always buy a size 10 and they fit perfectly, not sure why they always seem to be a size out ?

GOt mine on today and they are slippy on wet surfaces :disappointed:
