Of course I use a bog standard air freshener but never really liked them.
If it stinks, clean it or wash it.

half a can of nutradol sprayed into the car,air con on full for 10 minutes, sorted
Worked ok in my car. Still smells clean and fresh after a couple of weeks....hopefully killed any nasty bacteria in the air vents etc too.
If you get a smell with A/C or blowers on, then change your pollen filter (sometimes called cabin filter) before using the spray. Most are fairly cheap from eurocarparts and usually not difficult to change.
