non isofix seats are fine. it's the seatbelt that keeps you from moving, not the seat.
You always get stupid safety comments when things like this are posted. Give it a while and the rear facing brigade will be here too.

I actually agree with both comments. Isofix are safer but the seats are more expensive. But isofix from a certain age then also use the cars seat belt to hold the child but by having a separate fixing point don't use the seat belt to hold the weight of the seat and child.

I thought only newer cars had isofix? I have a 2002 civic and I thought I'd read that they wouldn't accommodate isofix only seats?

My 2004 Civic had one in the back seats, perhaps not all trim levels had it as standard but check for it. In some cars all mounting holes are there and all you need are brackets, £15-30 from a dealer.
Why spend more on a seat with it?
Studies show that nearly 40% of child seats are fitted incorrectly with a seatbelt. Are you definitely, 100% sure you're doing it right every single time? I'm not.. Do you always check after your kid strapped himself when you're running late for school?
I've tried few non-isofix seats and those damn things move around in corners. If it leans on a roundabout, what will happen when someone hits your car?
They're still way better than a booster cushions which should be made illegal if you ask me. But isofix seat costs only £50-100 compared to a standard model. 1-2-3 group seat will last for at least 8 years, is it really worth taking a risk?

I have no doubt you're right about the isofix, and I'm onboard with the cost being worth it. What I'm asking, is are all cars compatible with isofix? If I'm able to, I'll definitely get it :smiley:

Not all, but you can use seatbelt too and by the time your child weights 36kg you'll change your car twice. :smiley:

We had a y reg civic which did have isofix. If I remember correctly it didn't call it isofix in the manual though.

Isofix is only worth while before they use a high back booster. Once they're onto that the seatbelt does 100% of the work and the Isofix is just there.

Isofix reduces chance of human error but a belted rear facing seat is safest,
