Supermarket fuel is full of additives and sticking it into a high performance engine is a bad idea, [email protected] cars not so much - but hey, if you're happy buying cheapo unknown timing belts or brakes go for it, I just hope I'm not on the road behind you when they fail. With parts, you get the quality/longevity you pay for

I have 2015 one I think all these parts are for the older mk. It's irritating but then again I do have a five year warranty and no manufacturer would ever try and get out of covering warranty repairs would they?

OEM standard are fine (though some better than others) but there's a lot of rubbish out there manufactured to a poorer standard. Speak to any honest mechanic and they'd tell you to avoid (the others appreciate you bringing in to fix)

Isn't the point actually that supermarket fuel DOESN'T contain as many additives? (ie. it's cheaper for the supermarkets to buy without the additives)
Also, the whole supermarket fuel thing is just a theory as there's plenty of compelling evidence that the fuel is exactly the same.

I've been running performance cars for years,all of them over 400bhp and I have NEVER had any engine issues at all and all have been run on tesco momentum/tesco 99 since the day it came out.I have also never met anyone with a performance car who has had issues with the fuel.

Let's be honest even if there were a fraction more engine wear from supermarket fuels,most people who can afford a decent performance car aren't going to be bothered that in 200k miles there might be a little more wear on the engine,it will have been sold on long before that mileage would come around.

It's good, but not quite right - 335i coupe that I only use V-Power/Nitro+ in and there are plenty of tales of higher ethanol mixes (including Tescos) causing fuel pump failures in the N54 3 litre twin turbo set-up

I was forced to use supermarket fuel (97 RON) in my S2000 once and it threw an engine light within about 20 miles

We can all do that: use HUK to buy up all the good stuff and sell it on. But that would result in fewer people posting good deals because they know all the opportunists would buy everything, making the website pointless. Then everyone misses out on good deals they wouldn't have otherwise known about. Even your 7 year old could work that out.

Ach, trying to find some good stuff since I'm in need of money, quick. The radiators that the commenter linked earlier seem OK at about £9 to sell for £70 on eBay, but since they're heavy (about 5kg) wouldn't the shipping be pricey? Plus I'm not sure how well they sell in general.

That seems a little far fetched. Both my 911's (currently a turbo) have never had any issues with the Tesco fuel I've been putting in them. Your fault code was probably forgetting to put the fuel cap back on tight enough.

The only problem with your theory is that, I was the one that bought the Jag clutch that got the hissy fit comment. Yes I bought it to make a few quid, along with a couple more items, I wasn't greedy I bought 14 items in total, 4 of which are to make money on, they are all big value items and so am hoping to pay for a holiday this year if they sell ok. All the other items are things we need or will need.

I could of quite easily have bought loads more to profit but instead I POSTED the deal to share the love!

I can help with a bit of advice. Stop asking other people to do your legwork. The advice in the first few posts is easy to access. Put your car in. Select Prime delivery. Change order to low to high. Start looking.

I think the poster is saying that it's just as difficult for him to find the cheap parts for your car as it is for you. There's no quick way - you just have to use the search function then trawl through hundreds of items til you find one that fits your model.

Indeed. You can speed things up considerably by looking at a defined range eg £10-20 or £15-25 to find the remaining good stuff. Picked up 2 sets (ie 2 each) of brake discs for our Volvo last night that way, just over a tenner each.

Plus a nice little Volvo S40/ V40 gadget for another tenner that I can sell on Ebay for £60-70 to pay for my trouble :smiley:

Yeah Renault bits here too - radiator for a scenic (coming from Germany) plus a load of timing and aux belt kits and tensioners for megane/clio RS models. Split across a few different orders and like you say, a couple are 'on their way', one 'shipping today' the others 'not yet dispatched'.

Yeah I figured that was the case. If they couldn't make car parts sales work then one cause (as amply demonstrated on this thread) might have been that people weren't able to find the bits they needed.

I cancelled a few orders because I realized the parts for a lot of the cars are worth more than the actual car. It's going to be hard to ebay these items at rrp when people will just get rid of the car altogether.

Cola​ is the generic name similar to Petrol.
Coke is the brand name, kind of like V-Power or whatever it might be called.

Another thing, cola makers generally have their own factories and recipes whereas there are a limited number of refineries in the UK supplying all the forecourts.

I don't think there will be a huge eBay market for much of the bigger stuff. You buy a radiator for a tenner, with free shipping. By the time you have added postage and stuck on your profit and eBay fees, you will still have to be selling it quite cheaply to tempt someone away from buying it from a specialist supplier with a guarantee and free shipping. Possibly better selling it to a trader at an auto jumble.

I can see why Amazon would leave the sector though. The search function cannot cope because the descriptions don't tell you what car the part is for and finding anything is a nightmare.

I totally agree, basically if you know nothing about parts and cars and do not know what you are doing...don't do it - you will end up with fingers burned

and don't expect other members to spoonfeed you what parts to buy to make a profit

LUK are decent quality and OEM on plenty of decent cars. I'd expect a decent clutch from a motor factor to be Sachs or LUK

Some truth in that. I did notice that for my vehicle there were for example cheap brake discs (all gone now) but some of the other stuff was similar to discounted prices on eBay or motor factors. You kind of need to know the usual price of the stuff you are buying. The radiators looked to be the best bargains as Nissens is a decent brand.

Well I'll tell you what I just did for a laugh, you can have a go if you feel like it, you can't compete with me as all the items I bought are unique. I just bought 5 sets of brake calipers (left & right) for fairly current models of popular cars. About a tenner each so let's say £100 all in.

I reckon I can easily multiply the buying price by 7. They won't all sell. I just need to sell 2/10 to break even. Everything after that goes in the beer jar :smiley:

Give it a go, it needn't be brake calipers - there are plenty of decent alternatives...

unless it says pairs then they are sold singles as with most of the motortrade. however it is always best practice to replace both discs.

How can you tell which car each part belongs to?

Had one of the parts come for my own car a MAF to be precise, The brand on the listing was 'Fuel Parts' but what I received was a Bosch brand was taken back a little by that. If I was to buy a Bosch MAF for my car from ECP for example I'd have to pay around £110... Got it from Amazon for £5. Crazy. Question: is this limited to car parts? I've not had a chance to look since in other categories?

Type the part number in Google or eBay.
