Not sure why this hasn't been posted yet, but been looking around today and this looks like an excellent deal, which I nabbed. I can't find anything that beats it.
Although the model isn't specified, I believe it's this one: 60UH650V

At 60" 4K isn't really pointless. I know there's a lot of hype, and it depends on viewing distance, but at this size it should be pretty good and with the HDR.

This is ultra HD which isn't as good as super HD, clear as mud from lg marketing.
It's probably an rgbw panel so isn't really "proper" 4k
Is this likely to be the same (I.e. not a great 4k panel)? Got it for 399 earlier as part of prime day but now worried it won't be very good?
Highheels1980
12 Jul 162#14
yeah that looks like the same type of panel, might just be film buffs that would notice so try out first to see what your think of it?
This puts me off these panels though as it's a pretty damning verdict of the technology used in them.
"We’re confused by the purpose of an RGBW LED LCD TV. Yes, it can resolve 3840 pixels horizontally and 2160 pixels vertically (though not both at the same time), but that’s beside the point. The diluting effect of the additional white subpixel damages colour fidelity irreparably: by trying to shoehorn RGB video signals into an RGBW matrix, colour information is lost, and users will never be able to enjoy movies in the manner intended by the director"

Are we certain on the model yet? Not so concerned about the RGBW. See this as the death nell for my Sky Sat package as it has Now TV built in along with Amazon, Netflix and all the terrestial Catchup.

Are there brands that don't use these types of panels? For example is it better to look it Samsung, Sony etc? Or is it simply that all entry level 4k TV's do this?

I was so tempted by this but held off by the lack of model number. A skeptic would say it was left off on purpose

This is a pretty good deal. Personally I'm holding off til a 55" oled is available for around this price cos I miss the inky blacks of plasma & have two couches at right angles to the screen so viewing angle is compromised by any led set.
For a lot of people this may hit the right buttons for their needs at a great price though. For that, have some heat.

I've only read that these 2016 lg budget panels are using them but other manufacturers could be. I only researched the lg panels because of the prime deal as was interested in this myself. The other factor is Amazon only listed these models early this month at the pretend "rrp", dropped it a few days later and then again for prime day. It seemed deceptive to me...
philljp
12 Jul 16#22
The other model isn't the same. Look at the stands. I was aware of the rgbw post, but still decided to go with it, as there's always going to be some reason not to buy a TV, and I don't want to spend £1,500 (and we don't know it's definitely rgbw)+. 60" should give the wow factor, and I reckon the picture quality should be really good (I hope). The WebOS 3.0 looks to work well too.
The marketing of these TVs is terrible though across the board. They don't make it very clear at all.

Where did you read that these LG panels are definitely RGBW?

I'm the same and have the last plasma penny made the st60 the black levels and motion are second to none so I can't go to any lcd screen 4k or not would need a back step .got my eye on the 4k oled lg for £1799 but just seen the new 2016 lg 4k oled at £2799
hopefully the first 4k oled will drop around £1000 by xmas fingers crossed as unsure I can justify the near 3k for TV

Just been reading this about the 2016 line up of LG TVs
"Another thing that you have to be aware of when browsing LG’s LCDs is that an increasing share of the LCDs, basically all the non-“Super UHD” models, come with what LG calls M+ panels. These are RGBW LCD panels where one white subpixel is shared between each cluster of RGB pixels (unlike on LG’s OLEDs where no subpixels are shared). The jury is still out on these panels but initial testing shows that part of the 4K resolution is sacrificed to reduce power consumption. We have indicated which LCD TVs use M+ panels for each model in the overview."

UH65 is another 6 series TV. It is more or less technical identical to UH66 but has a different design and base.

Yes but it's a way to tell which panels are rgbw from lg as most of their UHD TV's in 2016 are, according to a website I read so don't take it as gospel, as you shouldn't from some guy on a forum who just used Google to look into a telly

Interesting info though guys. When I get the TV, I'll post back to let you know what I think, as I'm sure others will find this post in the future.
If the picture quality is crap, it'll be going back!
At the moment though I'm quite confident the quality will be fine, as from the hdtvtest results they summarise that the resolution looked the same as the rgb panel, but to their eyes the colours were not as accurate.

Yes, of course I saw those pictures, along with the text of:

13 Jul 16#38
Yeah I read it but as philljp says it might not be noticeable with day to day viewing, if using it as a PC monitor then yes it will be horrible. Missed the deal now but interested in philljp's opinion as I may get one if they go on offer again, I don't expect it to stay at £1300 for long

Hi. Sorry for the late reply. I'm looking at a this lasting me 10 years so wanted to get the best 4K and HDR I could. In the end I went for an 55UH850v that is Super UHD with both the Dolby and HDR10 standards. It also came with a 5 year warranty and a wireless soundbar. I've linked to the deal below if you are interested.
Hope your TV is great, only advice I have for you is to upgrade the firmware before you update your apps. Not only will it make a huge difference to your picture. You won't have to download the newer apps again.
Received the TV today, the first disappoment there's no lg magic remote with it. Just a normal cheap look a like remote.
Haven't test the picture quality yet. Anybody else?
philljp
18 Jul 162#50
Thanks for the tip Luciddestiny, where do I download the firmware from? LG website yeah?
I received mine today, and I have to same I'm very, very pleased with it. I agree I was a bit disappointed it didn't have the high end remote, but it still works really well.
If helps get an idea of my expectations, the TVs I've owned previously are a 40" Sony W Series (about 8 years old price new £1,500). An LG 47" which was about the same age. I also have an LG 21:9 35" monitor for my PC which I do Wedding and Landscape photography editing on, so I do have an eye for colours and picture quality. I've also visited Curry's on numerous times over the years, including the amazing OLED screens, so I have a fairly good idea of what picture quality to expect
The look of the TV is very smart indeed, the brushed metal feels and looks good quality, and the profile is very slim. It comes with a low profile power cable, and the HDMI cables are plugged in to the side if you want to mount close to the wall.
I have an Nvidia Shield hooked up which can output 4K, and once hooked up it recognised the 4K 60hz output with the full wide colour profile with YCbCr444.
Watching 4K and even 1080p YouTube content I'm blown away. Sitting in my house it looks every bit as good as the high end LCD screens in Currys. The picture is smooth (Truemotion turned on) vibrant, bright and good blacks. The picture quality is very sharp.
I'm not saying if you put it side by side with a high end (non OLED) screen there would be no difference. But from memory, comparing to those in the shop (Sony/Samsung) its every bit as good.
The WebOS interface is fast, slick and responsive, and has various apps you can install including Amazon Prime Video where I watched some UHD content which was excellent. Sky HD looks great too.
Overall, very happy!!
Here's an image, please ignore the TV unit as that's going, lol
I found where to update the firmware, within the TV menu. So I've done that now too and will have a further play, cheers.

18 Jul 16#52
One thing I like. I just played UHD HDR content from the built in Amazon app and you get a message from the TV that you're now playing HDR content, and it puts the picture settings into a dedicated HDR mode, which you can then customise if you wish.
stelo
18 Jul 16#53
Thanks for your review. I have connected mine with PC but when I'm playing full screen 4k video youtube on the pc it works fine but when I press esc key to exit full screen mode the TV starts to flicker the whole display unless I switch off the TV and put it back on. Any idea what it could be? or is there a fault with my set
philljp
19 Jul 161#54
I have seen flickering from the shield box, if I set Deep Colour mode to On in the TV General settings. I need to investigate, as it says there maybe stability issues of the hardware doesn't support deep colour. So check that.
Otherwise try try built in apps such as YouTube. I'm finding they are giving the best picture quality anyway.
