Good lamps but they are about 5mm longer than a standard MR16 and stick out proud in my cooker hood.

I'd advise the cool white option in the kitchen and maybe the bathroom (depending on the style and decor) but for living areas I'd say warm white as the light they give off is not as stark or glaring but I suppose you may have to factor in the amount of light fittings you have in the room too.

I got some LIKE these about a year ago, from Amazon so delivery next day, so if you dont like them send them back, easy. Have a look there may be some brighter, maybe dimmable ones available now.
Being a bit of a numpty... Can I just simply switch these for my halogen lights and not have to change transformers etc.?

It depends on your trasformers wattage rating. See what the transformer /driver says, maybe something like 20-90, would mean you need a minimum of 20 wattts.

Can I swap these like for like with the 50w halogens I have right now or do I need to get a sparky in to also change the driver or something like that? I am in a fairly new build (5yrs old) house and not sure what's there at the moment other than I'm currently using traditional 50w halogen MR16
