There's only one deal more likely to go cold than a iPhone 6s 16gb deal, and that's an iPhone 6s 16gb deal when the new model is around the corner.

Looking past the above, here's a deal that I think is pretty good value given that it's classed as Nearly Perfect. I've bought plenty of Grade B phones from O2 before and they've been absolutely spot on. Throw in a 12 month warranty / balance of manufacturer warranty if longer and I think this is a more than reasonable price.

*To get this price, you need to show all tariffs and select the 20gb tariff which is £41 pm (£11 pm phone / £30 pm airtime) plus £39.99 upfront*

And before someone says that the cost is in fact (£41 x 24) plus £39.99 please google 'how O2 refresh works'. Other than that please feel free to ask any questions :)

Almost Perfect (I'm getting mark fatigue now)
Nearly Almost Perfect (Almost up to the almost perfect)
Nearly Perfect (Somewhere between perfect and marks and some perfectly acceptable marks marked above the previous mark)
Like New (like new - except you're still kidding yourself because someone's opened it)
Almost Like New (almost like new but you can take another 15p off okay? G'wan okay 17p But postage will now not be free)
Nearly Almost Like New (Getting so close you can almost squint and not see the scuff marks)

A serious warning for those taking out this contract to pay the device plan off and keep the phone. O2 puts two credit entry into your credit file as if you have taken out two loans at the same time which hits your credit rating. In my case they never closed the airtime account and it stayed on my credit file as a default even though o2 NEVER sent me a bill or any notices. And when I applied for a mortgage I got rejected! In other deals that have been posted a lot of people put this warning up and I ignored it thinking there's something they must have done wrong. I would stay clear of any o2 refresh deals if I were u.

So confused. This tariff is £30 a month on o2 refresh, all last month O2 had this same tariff SIM ONLY for £20 a month. So in terms of value technically this is £120 more than having last months sim only deal i.e making the handset really cost you £423.99. Yes i know the deal has changed now but still, am i missing something.

Ok so let's get this crystal clear I do the plan pay the £39.99 up front cost get the phone then ask for it to be unlocked on line wait a couple of days then cancel the airtime pay off the remainder is that £303.99 minus the upfront cost of £39.99 then keep the phone ? Thanks

12 Jul 16 2 #35
when you pay off the balance of the phone contract you're under no obligation to continue with the airtime element. O2 will of course encourage you to do so but given its so expensive compared to a sim-only equivalent you can cancel at same time. My advice - cancel the DD tho - O2 have got a habit of messing up the final bill.

@shearski yes the process is for all O2 refresh plans, hence why they're so many of them posted on this site. I've purchased mostly refurbs and the condition of the phones are always top notch

@denisedoris in my experience they'll be locked to O2, however the unlock process (mentioned somewhere in the thread) is very simple. At worst, you may end up paying for a couple of days airtime whilst you wait the unlock

AVOID THIS 'DEAL' AT ALL COSTS!!!
I bought one three months ago, paid off the phone and cancelled the airtime contract. I was told this was all fine.
A month later I got charged an extra £200!
I have had several long phone conversations with them. Every time I get told it's a mistake and will be rectified. Last time I even spoke to a senior manager who promised it would be sorted out.
Now they have blocked my phone.

Great deal OP, thanks for sharing.

I got a Iphone SE a couple of months back on refresh thanks to this site. Very simple indeed. Bought phone online as described. Delivered the next day, used it for 2 days (as advised in the deal). Called up 02 and cancelled contract and paid off the device. Was told the amount I would be billed which was a couple of pounds. Received unlock code 3 days later. Very simple and cost effective way to buy a phone.

I've done this a couple of times, followed exactly the same procedure. First time everything went fine, second one they charged me the full costs of the airtime plan the next month. I got it refunded pretty quickly but it is absolutely not user error, it is a O2 ****-up, as evidenced by the fact they also agreed to refund any charges accrued as a result of their mistake.

Don't do it, I did the refresh deal for the 5s and had nothing but trouble. Eventually got charged £200 pound after think I'd cancelled everything correctly. Literally only got the money back yesterday after about 2 months. Terrible company to deal with.

No error on my part, called up the day I got it to pay off the phone and cancel the airtime agreement. 1 month later I get a bill for a months airtime, call up only to be told it hadn't been cancelled. Asked for them to do it again for me only to get another bill the month after! Eventually got through to someone who cancelled it for me but then got a "00 pound early termination charge! Contacted them again to dispute this and they arranged a refund which took 10 days. Advice from me would be deal with them over the phone and not on live chat.
searsp
13 Jul 16 #74
As I may mentioned in a previous comment, the safety first option is to cancel the Direct Debit with your bank once you have called up and paid out the balance of the phone contract. That way, if O2 do mistakenly try and bill you for the remaining cost of the airtime plan (and unfortunately they are prone to) then it's simply a phone call to get this corrected. As opposed to then having to wait for them to refund the money collected in error.

This helped clear things up for me:

How much does it cost to end your contract early on O2 Refresh? What do you charge for the leftover Airtime Plan?
With O2 Refresh, there’s no penalty for ending your contract early. All you have to do is pay off the balance of your Phone Plan.

There’s no termination charge for ending your Airtime Plan once you’ve settled your Phone Plan.
redadmiral
13 Jul 16 #80
As Op states can you just cancel the direct debit
Android2g
13 Jul 16 1 #81
Hi because it had put 4 late payments in my file, the Bank will tell you why they are not progressing your mortgage. I finally got o2 to sort it out in the end and my mortgage progressed, but it was a lot of hassle. Some of their agents don't know you are not liable for the airtime charge when you pay your device plan. Even their system is not set up for o2 refresh and will always, I repeat always create an airtime bill. If you are lucky and you get an experienced agent, they will apply negative airtime charges to the bill which settles it. But as we know you have to be extremely lucky to get those agents. I don't think an O2 refresh deal is ever worth it. Stay away you have been WARNED!
Android2g
13 Jul 16 1 #82
This is a terrible advice, don't, I repeat don't cancel your DD, if O2 charges you get them to refund it so the accounting at their end is done properly.
In my case, they took the full airtime charge out of my account and when I call they asked me to cancel my DD and tell my bank to revoke the DD for the airtime charge. What I didn't realise was that the agent did not do any accounting at their end to correct the incorrect bill, he suppressed any correspondence coming out to me and, for the next 4 months o2 put late payments of the airtime bill in my credit file. I went from being a 10/10 in my credit rating to being a 1/10. stay away from this deal!!!
searsp
13 Jul 16 1 #83
I wouldn't say it's terrible advice but given your unfortunate experience with O2 I can understand why you might have reached that very conclusion. The one thing we're all agreeing on is that it's entirely possible that O2 will bill you in error for the remaining airtime contract. So to cover off the various good points people have made:-
1. When you contact O2 to pay off the phone balance, do so via phone as opposed to live chat (if you've ever used live chat you'll know why)
2. When speaking to O2, make absolutely clear that you wish to finish the airtime contract. Maybe even ask them to put it in writing to you.
3. Cancel your Direct Debit. If the worst happens, you're making another call to O2, not waiting a couple of weeks for them to refund.
4. If you're feeling neurotic about Point 3, contact O2 again via live chat/phone after cancelling the DD and ask them to confirm (again) the airtime contract has been cancelled.
searsp
13 Jul 16 1 #84
p.s. I've got seven phones via O2 refresh and apart from the first time when they did collect £600 in error from my account, it's all gone swimmingly each time. You do just need to be aware that not everyone within O2 understands how their own refresh scheme works!

13 Jul 16 1 #87
Just as a word of warning to anyone doing this, having used the SE deal myself, it is very easy to complete the deal but there are a few things to be aware of when valuing the saving against the non financial costs:

1. They make cancelling about as difficult as it can be. I called up the following day, stating that I had no intention of continuing as I only wanted to purchase the phone, only to face a barrage of questioning from a number of teams I was transferred between before finally being able to get it cancelled (unlocking was straight forward and completed on the same call).

2. They insist that due to billing procedures, you are charged 1 month full contract charge (inc. airtime) that you can subsequently reclaim using the standard reclaim process they have set up, so you're temporarily out of pocket for this.

3. They didn't state on the phone but you are responsible for cancelling the direct debit set up for payment. I found out the hard way when I received a £600+ charge from O2 for 'early cancellation', only to be told by O2 that I had to consult my bank to raise a claim and that this would then take 10 days to refund as the charge shouldn't have been taken. Apparently I should have been advised that the DD needed to be cancelled, they forgot to mention this when I asked whether there was anything further to do.

So, its a great deal, just a fair bit of potential hassle on the horizon!

I have been through this process twice recently to get a couple of iphones. The phones themselves are in great condition but the process with O2 is very frustrating and like others have said you are likely to encounter barriers and ultimately either get billed in error for the remaining airtime or worse still actually have it taken out your account in error. I had both even though they assured me this wouldn't happen.

My advice is to make sure you speak to the UK call centre rather than use the live chat. They did sort it out in the end after numerous calls. Not worth it in my opinion.

Do you know what me ole beauty, I have owned Samsung Galaxies, Lumia's, Xperia's. They've all had external storage support - and they have all performed poorly whenever I've used it.

I'm now using an iPhone 4S with 16GB of storage. I have iPlayer video and radio things downloaded, podcasts downloaded, Here and Google maps downloaded, plenty of apps installed....and still have 6GB's of space for other things

Yes, of course more internal storage is better. But for simplicity and coherence, nothing beats the iPhone. & for those of us that do not have a need for the extra space, an iPhone with 16GB of storage will perform just as well as one with 64GB's.

Different strokes for different folks.

One i a thousand or one in a hundred we keep seeing this sort of companies causing loads of trouble to people. Putting marks for nothing, reducing scores significantly for bloody broadband contracts...Not affected myself yet but even the idea of it irritates me.

So Im with EE..

I choose the mentioned tariff, they will charge me £39.99 and send me the phone,I'll make a single call, then will ask them to unlock it,after that I can cancel the Airtime part and pay the whole phone contract which will be £264.
And I will have an unlocked phone with no o2 contract fee or anything else to pay at all?
Tan1993

I'm about to buy this now but please can I just check if you would have to pay off the first months airtime which would be £30. Surely if you have used the phone they will charge you the whole months airtime? I was also wondering why when you get the basket and it has the breakdown of costs it says 'device cash price £393.99'. Thanks!

one question to anybody who has got it . how much of storage is free out of 16GB for user?
BrianM
15 Jul 16 #140
About 11Gb on an iPhone 6 - and I expect the 6S to be almost identical.

With "Photo Library" (optionally!!!) keeping full resolution photos only on iCloud and reducing the device storage to thumbnails when required I have been fine with 16Gb. As I said earlier, a full backup and restore seems to have miraculously recovered an extra 3Gb very recently!

IOS 10 is said (again as an option!) to do something similar with music

Yes. So you're paying £39.99 up front and them through balance of the phone contract (24 x £11 = £264) when you ring O2. This also enables you to end the airtime tariff as well with nothing else payable.

Which number do I call?

You can fill in an unlock form on the 02 website now! I then waited for my phone to be unlocked (filled form in Thursday pm and phone was unlocked by Sunday am, but may be quicker if not done over weekend). I've just done it! They say that it can take up to 14 days!

There will be an element of Apple warranty, up until the phone being 12 months old. After that, the balance of the 12 month warranty is made up by o2. The phone I got only has a warranty until November 2016, so must have been sitting about somewhere for 8 months after having been initially activated.

finally ordered the 16GB space grey.

I had an iPhone 6 on contract with EE last year I sold it for £370 after 1 year of use and bought a Galaxy Note 5 for £450 for a change, after 6 months I realised nothing beats iPhone specially in terms of os reliability, app quality and having much much less issues, also realised phablet size is not for me,so I was waiting for a deal on 6s.

have not much interest in buying iPhone 7 so far rumours indicate there will be minimal change in term of design and features and real changes will show on next years iPhone, also there is no way I can get the 7 this cheap or even close.

I looked at iPhone SE and really liked it,very powerful and fast and with much nicer design than 6 series but then even SE will be a good £60 more expensive than this deal.

this phone will be in as new condition so it's definitely a great deal, cannot argue.
no risk of phone being blocked etc..(for those comparing eBay iPhones) so there is really no match for this price.

£303 for a top phone.
Tequila
20 Jul 16 #195
regarding charger:

go to apple store or john lewis, curry etc (never buy this from eBay/amazon,etc as almost all will be fake)
and buy an iPad charger.they are fully compatible with iPhones and charge the phone faster than iPhone specific chargers.they are £15 and well worth it.

this is what you want :

Link From Apple (Free Delivery)

you will need to buy the USB cable separately but any compatible iPhone cable will pretty much work (even £1 ones from poundland) and unlike the charger itself you don't necessarily need to buy the official one .

I'm not sure I buy into your advice. The reviews are hardly that favourable!

http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/reviews/MD836B/B/apple-12w-usb-power-adapter

I'd much sooner get a 24W charger from Anker with two 2.4 amp charging ports...and 425 5* reviews

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Charger-PowerIQ-Technology-Motorola/dp/B016LPMFUA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1469034883&sr=8-4&keywords=anker++charger

Plenty of other options besides...all of which are cheaper than the Apple charger.
Tequila
20 Jul 16 #198
it is enough if you learn to use it within the limit..you can also get 50GB iCloud from Apple for 79p a month so you can store your photos, videos and files there.
if you still want bigger space chose the 64GB for £403 instead.
Tequila
20 Jul 16 #199
well I used my iPad Mini charger and it's been excellent very fast and reliable for charging iPhone.
Anker is fine but then it's 24W against iPad charger which is 15W and iPhones own charger was 10W..so some people may have concerns that 24W might shorten iPhone's battery life..(I'm neutral on that argument).
I don't think £15 is too much at all,but Anker is fine too..just stay away from unbranded cheaper ones due to well known safety issues and unreliability.
wenttoabetterplace
20 Jul 16 #200
24w just means the charger can sustain 2.4amp output at 5v across both ports. So you can have an iPhone and whatever else charging at full speed. Pretty good for a v.compact charger (especially when the iPad charger is such a lump)

I agree..I had the 16GB iPhone 6 and a 16GB iPad Mini 2 and really never had any major issues with storage,I had pretty much every App that I needed with no compromise, maybe 200 photos and a few videos and there was still some free space, and I didnt even use iCloud.

Now Ive bought a 64GB iPad Mini 4 and have the exact same Apps, more Pics and I still think I would have been fine with 16GB.
Ofcourse 64GB is always better but in case of this deal there is £100 price difference,I hope they ditch 16GB and make 32GB the base sooner.

but 16GB is still perfectly ok specially when linked to 50GB icloud for just £0.79 a month.for those who disagree, there is £64 GB version available for £100 more.
Tequila
21 Jul 16 #206
Yes..you won't find any 64GB 6s anywhere even close to that price.

Looks like the "Almost Perfect" model at this price is no longer available and has been replaced with a "Like New" model at £50 more - £89.99 upfront instead of £39.99 - so a total of £353.99 for the £16GB model.

The 64GB and 128GB models seem to offer better value now - they're still £403.99 and £431.99 respectively

Called O2, paid off the device - £303.99 in total, cancelled airtime (I hope they did it right as there customer service is shocking and they seem to blag there way through everything) and then logged onto 'my O2' online and requested unlock - says it usually takes up to 24 hours but may take a week.

I think you need to unlock first as they unlock via your phone number and imei link. Then cancel airtime. When I cancelled my airtime it actually cut me off the phone call when I was still talking to them, it was that imminent. You also have to use the phone number so it links itself to the phone.

Hi guys,

I did request the unlock before cancelling the airtime so it's all good. Confirmed with a couple different advisors on the phone as well that the unlock would still work okay and they said it will be fine. I requested the unlock on the 'my o2' website before fully cancelling...tbh I'm glad I never even considered being with O2, reception is shocking and customer service is so poor. Out of about 7 advisors in total I spoke to 2 who sounded like they knew what they were doing.

Ordered yesterday and got it today.
Phone is in pristine condition like new.
came in a plain box but also got USB to lightning cable, sim card ejector and sim.
it has 6 months Apple warranty left and ofcourse O2's own 12 Months.

Received O2's first bill immediately (£41)
Put the sim in called O2 free number but when I filled online unlock request it was rejected because they say my phones IMEI is not registered to the number yet.
so called their CS number, there is an option for unlock, kept me on hold 17 minutes but finally lodged the unlock request.
The CS advisor I spoke too wasn't very polite and didnt sound like she had any education or training in customer service or even basic human interactions (poor experience but who cares I wont be using O2).

Now waiting for the unlock code so I can cancel the air time etc.

overall very happy, definitely a bargain at £303 and its really like new.also needless to say this phone is awesome.
