All of those services work perfectly fine on 3G. 4G is only really needed if you want HD streaming video or high-speed file downloads on the go. And to that effect try downloading a large file or watching streaming video for longer than a couple of minutes using 4G on a train in this country and see how far you get.

Amazon's got you covered
To protect your device if it's lost or stolen and ensure that it will be returned to you if found by police, we will automatically take these actions for all devices dispatched from, and sold by Amazon, without sharing any of your personal information:
• Register its serial number on the National Mobile Property Register used by the UK Police forces, so the police can help you get it back.
• Register its serial number on CheckMEND, a database used by over 9,000 secondhand traders, pawnbrokers and recyclers making it easy to locate in case it's ever resold.

This is absolute Bullshit.
You can use a granny phone with big buttons for 10-15 quid if don't need Internet on your phone . Or a tablet if you use Internet only in WiFi range. I use my 4g connection all the time. Even for talking I use voip to call abroad for free and video conference . Three used to let Skype calls using their servers as phone call earlier without going through voip but that has gone away. At work, in train, in car, on holidays 4g makes hell lot of difference. Even shopping on eBay and Amazon is so easy with 4g . Even can use Google maps as navigation with 4G and it works very well in the moving car.

The BR7 has the better specs & battery for sure (including fast charging), but not a well known brand & dubious about the warranty, etc.
A screen/glass protector usually only protects the front, so a protector case is always preferable (to me anyway), so the back is also protected.

4G is overrated and I know because I use it. There are very few times at which people need a portable high speed broadband connection on their phones, particularly since most of the big networks block tethering on their lower-cost packages and the western countries still haven't cracked being able to use mobile broadband consistently whilst moving.

It depends what you want it for. The Moto G you are looking at is probably the 1GB/8GB model rather than the 2GB/16GB model. I had a Moto G 2nd Gen and the 1GB RAM was slowing things down and I was running out of space for apps - even though I consider myself to not use many apps. If you are not likely to use it much apart from calls and text with a bit of internet you can get the Moto G 2nd gen for about £60 at Amazon warehouse. It has compass and notification light which the 3rd gen doesn't. Otherwise I would get a 2GB/16GB (at least) phone.
Smaller screen so easier to handle... but only 3G. Cheap as chips though for basic stuff. Camera average. GPS very good.

On all dual sim phones I have used, data is only 'consumed' on the one sim you select. The second sim can't use data, unless you change it in the settings. I suspect it's the same here.

Apple Pay works with any contactless payment terminal so you can use it in almost all well known outlets. I use it coffee shops, the tube home, tescos etc. Contactless limit is £30 per tap but some updated terminals will also any amount with Apple Pay because it is fingerprint verified and supported by all the major banks already. Same I expect will apply to google pay eventually, except Barclays have said they'll develop their own pay app and not support Google pay.

A lot of people including myself are wary I think of buying certain phone brands especially if shipped from overseas. Plus with some phones there are still 4G issues with the correct bands for all networks and then there’s the potential warranty issues.
Add all that together and it is holding them back. Buying direct from Amazon as here though is a different ballgame.
I bought a Motorola X Style 32GB from Amazon yesterday for £182 knowing that it will get updates, has a solid warranty and will have a decent resale value. Sometimes it’s cheaper in the long term to do that plus you get a better phone IMO in this case and less risk.

Yep, know what you mean.
But, up untill recently, most China phones were made for the China/India market, so quality etc wasn't upto European expectations. I think that will change once they start making specifically for the Western markets, remember nearly all the phones we do actually like, are made in China anyway! But as I mentioned, prices will rise as well.

Not really comparable. Neither of those two companies have any sort of patents partnership with Microsoft. Xiaomi did well in China because they offer additional services via apps (with Google services blocked/not allowed) but obviously this set-up won't work outside of China as theres no revenue stream to support their low prices. Microsofts patents will allow them to firstly get upto sped on new tech almost instantly and with little to no additional cost and secondly be able to offer a lot of Microsofts apps/services which should help with the ongoing income stream and give their 'credibility' a boost. Also gives Microsoft a huge instant user base, mostly young Chinese, who will soon all have the full MS package inc Skye pre-instlalled.

Hmm not sure about that assessment, but it won't be too long before we see a lot more of Xiaomi in Europe after finally completing a patents partnership with Microsoft (some might suggest that could be the end of them ).
One of the major factors that hold back these China phone companies launching phones over here is the fact they tend to rip ideas from other companies and would generally be exposed to all sorts of law suits in Europe/USA. Can see prices rising though.

- Ensure the HiCare app is up to date in the Play Store.

Darn it, just had to cancel yesterday's warehouse purchase for a 2nd hand one with 20% off. This price makes it a no brainer to go for a new one. Heated OP!

Also worth mentioning that the 5X will receive at LEAST Android O, while the Honor probably won't even get N given Honor's record of updating devices (particularly cheap ones).
The camera is much better on the 5X - one of the most solid cameras around IMO (along with the 6P).
The Honor has no NFC, so Android Pay is out of the window.
The Honor has very heavy customisation, so if you're a fan of the 'proper' Android interface (and I use the term loosely) then you might not like the Honor. Personally it's not my cup of tea, and even a new launcher doesn't really change how heavily Honor have tweaked Android. It's probably the reason they're so slow with updates even when they do release them.

How does this compare to the Nexus 5x which is about £20 more?
I see this has an FM radio which I prefer and the Nexus doesn't but apart from that?

They are both pretty similar in terms of specs, both have 2GB RAM although the Nexus runs with the newer Snapdragon 808 (Honor has Snapdragon 616).
Honor is 5.5 inches compared to Nexus 5.1 inches, so thats your preference, although it means the Nexus has a slightly better screen ppi 423 (Honor is 400).
Looks wise the Honor wins with metal casing compared to the cheap plastic of the Nexus (not to mention the massive branding on the back).
Honor has slightly better battery.
And additional storage wise the Nexus has none whereas the Honor can be expanded up to 128GB.
One thing worth mentioning, whilst the Nexus 5X doesn't have a great battery life, it will get the next version of Android called Android Nougat before most other devices and very likely to get Android O after that.

The only problem with G4 plus is that it has no notification light. For some reason motorola has disabled it.

amazon packaging was pushed apart, phone removed and they left the accessories!?
It came with stickers! their loss
amazon replaced next day of course
Amazon's got you covered
To protect your device if it's lost or stolen and ensure that it will be returned to you if found by police, we will automatically take these actions for all devices dispatched from, and sold by Amazon, without sharing any of your personal information:
• Register its serial number on the National Mobile Property Register used by the UK Police forces, so the police can help you get it back.
• Register its serial number on CheckMEND, a database used by over 9,000 secondhand traders, pawnbrokers and recyclers making it easy to locate in case it's ever resold.
• Ensure that it will be unable to connect to any UK mobile network if it's ever reported stolen.
I went through that and at the end it said a replacement would be delivered 2morrow.
I just have to send the box with the missing phone back by the end of the month.
Refreshing to learn, that is if a replacement DOES turn up 2morrow.
A screen/glass protector usually only protects the front, so a protector case is always preferable (to me anyway), so the back is also protected.
Box had been opened and phone missing.
English isn't my mother tongue either and I have a very low tolerance for people who can't be bothered to learn how to use it properly.
Most people have to use public transport and it works out cheaper than driving as well with contactless daily cap.

Smaller screen so easier to handle... but only 3G. Cheap as chips though for basic stuff. Camera average. GPS very good.
Motorola Moto G 3rd Generation LTE UK SIM-Free Smartphone - Black £109 used/good condition from Amazon warehouse?
Yeah they are great but again we all look at our phone far too much already
Do you guys have bank cards and small wallets? I prefer to use my card of choice... tsb to get cashback on contacless payments ... I dont want to get my phone out for payments?????
I have a lot of must haves for phones but nfc and fingerprint scanners arent on my list
Better on the outside than the inside then ?
For calls and sms messages, you can either set it up where it automatically uses a certain sim, or you can have it ask you each time.
I suppose a great positive from that is they don't have to use a public transport full of idiots.
I was looking to replace a crappy ZTE Blade S6 work phone, which Amazon kindly refunded last week. Was about to buy the Honor 5X at £169 direct from VMall so thanks OP for saving me £30. I think they are great phones for the money. I got my wife and my dad an Honor 7 each, and my niece has the 5X. Good UK bases customer support too.

But, up untill recently, most China phones were made for the China/India market, so quality etc wasn't upto European expectations. I think that will change once they start making specifically for the Western markets, remember nearly all the phones we do actually like, are made in China anyway! But as I mentioned, prices will rise as well.
Fantastic
Support and build quality are the key problems in the Android phone space and the Chinese seem to do particularly poorly in both aspects.

One of the major factors that hold back these China phone companies launching phones over here is the fact they tend to rip ideas from other companies and would generally be exposed to all sorts of law suits in Europe/USA. Can see prices rising though.
G4 Plus is £199, not much additional features.
Xaomi redmi note 3 pro 650 snapdragon compare to honor 5x 5.5 . I guess xiaomi has got 4000mah battery
where has honour is just 3000 mah.
also xiomi redmi note 3 pro has 3gb ram where has honor is 2gb.
drawback in xiami camera is poor in low light(though it cann be corrected using xoom app in andior play store.
Price of xiaomi is also in same range.around 140 GBP
Suggestions are most welcome

- Ensure the HiCare app is up to date in the Play Store.
- Run the HiCare app and select 'OS Upgrade Early Adopters'. You will then be added to the list of devices that can download B330 immediately.
- Re-run the Settings app, select the update option and install.

Soooooo indecisive.
They are both phablets if thats what you want.
Nobody's even really bothering with Apple Pay yet.
I think this phone does have fast charge btw. It charges extremely quickly for me anyway but the battery life is pretty decent.
Nexus has faster 4g and covers more bands which could be handy if hoping to use it abroad. Better wifi too and fast charging. Screen nicer on the Honor on other hand.

It's one of the reasons why I prefer Nexus devices but unfortunately the high costs and lack of SD support outweigh most of the benefits of Nexus these days.
