ive got a Go pro knockoff. Might sound a bit thick but does the camera always have to be in the waterproof case when being used with a selfie stick?

As you can probably see, there's no way to connect the camera to a stick or any mount without it being in a case. For the GoPro, you can but a "frame" that goes round the camera leaving the lens, buttons, ports and microphone exposed. You obviously get better sound quality, but higher risk of damage and obviously no water protection. You could look into a frame for your camera and try it out.

I've got the SJ7000 and it has an open mount (frame) with a threaded base where you can screw in a selfie stick. perhaps that's what you need? The camera just clicks into the mount.

thats right but some selfie sticks have the adjustable top bot means you can squeeze anything into it with the need of a case with a mount
