Black & Decker all the way.
Bought in 1980 for £29.99 and still going strong as this picture of my wife taken last weekend proves.
Equivalent price in today's money is about £135 but still going strong.
They don't make 'em like they used to.

Anyone would think it's the end of summer with all these lawncare deals at Wilkos.
But I suppose they need to make room for the Christmas stock :D:D

yet another post that doesnt list where it was supposedly on sale for £20, no proof that it was this price and no one else has got one for this price. Yet this reaches stupid levels of heat.

Reminds me of my Uncle Trigger, he'd always show me the best broom he'd ever had....

Same as with everything these days. Retro or not retro but that looks so light, you could just use one hand to mow. Hasn't things move on with mower technology? I swear they seem to get bigger for no reason. Just wished they keep things simple & light.
Great find. Hot if you find one.

But then you need to empty it more often, unless they put tech in to compress the trimmed grass (how much could it compress?) and a sensor that tells you when to empty. Thinking like that GTECH Air vacuum cleaner that keeps getting advertised on TV, but as a lawnmower. I think as battery tech improves over the next few years for cars and phones, we might see some good high power (and importantly lightweight) cordless mowers and vacuums, that is what I want to see.

Good ideal you have but I'm akin to mains power mower as it has much more grunt + gets the job much quicker than having to have spare batteries charged up though they will always wear out regardless how advanced battery technology has moved on. Mains power will always be with us. It dawn on me about if vacuum cleaners can come a long way but garden mowers have not moved on much. I'm more the thinking of a compact juicer built-in, juicing up the cut-up grass to liquid at same time & just dumping out while mowing. That would save on recycling the garden waste bin with smaller bins. Not a advanced gardener myself so not sure if it's good for the lawn to juice up cut grass, I mean how often does one cut grass like hair?

Regarding battery mower, I agree at the moment the tech for batteries isn't there but some of the tech being developed for cars and phones is very promising and could offer the high voltage required and long enough life to allow it to work for a mower, plus the recharge lifespans are supposed to be huge on some of those as well. This would offer two benefits, one being no risk of cutting the cable with the mower, the other being to recharge during off peak time (assuming cheap time tariff such as economy 7 or free electric on Saturdays) to mow at another time.
I like that juicer idea, I was thinking maybe just a vacuum filter to remove air and compress further, but assuming it wasn't bad for the garden, your juicer idea is good, although one flaw is when it sucks up gravel or other things in the lawn?

Lots of highly capable robot mowers available now that use batteries and return to base when they're low. Similar to robot vacuums but for the lawn. They run at £2000 up though :-)
