Just saw GMG tweet that they had Doom available for under £20, so I checked the site and it's listed at £23.99 but 20% off code JULY20 brings it down to £19.19. That gets you a Steam key for the standard edition, which I think is the cheapest it's been available yet (it was £23.99 on Steam last week in the summer sale and it's been around that price elsewhere too).
It's part of a wider Bethesda sale which includes Fallout 4 for £19.99 (£15.99 after code)

Are you with someone like Hyperoptic?, to get that in 20 mins you'd have to have > 300Mb FTTP (around 36MB/sec)
Thats faster than pretty much ALL Fibre offerings, and faster than the fastest virginmedia "fibre" (coax!!) speeds.
I cant even get FTTC let alone FTTP, and i live in the city center. Thankfully this city does have virginmedia provision to this set of flats so I'm OK.
Point about this deal, this is one of the best looking games I have ever played. VERY nice and VERY smooth on my PC. X34, GTX980, X99 platform. I believe its well optimized regardless!

Can anyone tell me the download size of this game? My Internet is slow and I'm getting fed up of buying huge games digitally and taking days to download them. Started buying disks again recently due to some games been around 40GB.

IIRC it's about 45GB

It is about 45gb but it's also one of those games that doesn't have the game data on the retail disc - just like the Phantom Pain, all it has on the DVD is the Steam client, which is likely out of date anyway, so you'd have to install that, then update it, then download 45gb of Doom anyway. All I could suggest is that you find a friend with fast internet connection and download it at their house (they can do it for you if they have the game or you can take a laptop over or login to your Steam account on their PC), or a public place such as a library or cafe that offers fast, unlimited internet.

I mean what's the point in even having a retail game then if only about a 5th of the game is on the actual disk?

It's only a 20 min download! You need to pay more for fibre :sunglasses:

No point at all really - it's a complete waste of paper and plastic just to get the Steam key for what is essentially still a digital purchase. They might as well just sell them on scratch cards.
But it's a growing trend now and I think all games will be like that before long. Digital distribution is much faster and more cost effective than retail, and I'm sure you'd rather have faster internet than a reliance on optical media. If more people had Blu-Ray drives then maybe we'd still be getting retail install discs, but at this point most games are going to require 5+ dual layer DVDs and that's not convenient for anyone. But of course that doesn't help you get faster internet wherever you live... :disappointed:

I would gladly pay for fibre, not in my area until march 2017 though.

It's a biggie, but at least it's 50gb of game and not inefficiently packed FMV files.
I would still like more control over my downloads and installations though, my SSD is probably full of wasted assets.

Yea I mean I'm not against digital media, I have over 300 games on steam but games are getting larger and larger. For example, final fantasy 13 took me 50 hours to download, it took me less than that to finish the game lol. I suppose I will just have to wait for faster Internet if I want to download larger games in any sort of decent time.

Still Voted hot though, if you can actually get it.

My brother has the game, he got it on release and said it was brilliant, the game looks very good, but didn't take him long to get through it and he's bored of it and onto other games now. If it's cheap then it's worth getting but at just under £20, I'll wait a year and get it for under £10. Those who have money to burn enjoy.......!

Is there any story to the single player campaign? or is the game just multiplayer focused?

It's got as much story as you'd expect in a Doom game! It's got a proper single play campaign but you'll breeze through it, as with any FPS like this, then what value you get out of the game depends on how much you get into the multiplayer or whether you want to replay the single player.
