Yes that's a good deal as well. The only caveat is you've only got one month to use it whereas the the Three SIM can be used over the year.

And anywhere else you have literally no reception at all. It doesn't have a GSM signal so when you are out of 3g 4g range it's totally useless.

We have an iPad Mini on 3 and the signal seems no worse or better than EE for data which our phones are on. No idea about calls but for data I can see no reason not to go with them.

For me, the big advantage with this pre-loaded SIM is that you cannot by ripped off when you go outside the data allowance. With the rolling monthly plans their business model is predicated upon ripping you off if you use even the least amount over your allocation.
Never buy these data plans if you have to hand over your bank account or credit card details to them

Would I be right that the 12 months starts when you first use it? So if I first used it in Oct-16 in the US I should be able to use it next year for summer hol's? I have a little MiFi dongle which Im thinking of putting this in for holidays.

Before people start spouting that you can use Three (3) data abroad.
It's very much useless for anything other than basic email and web browsing.

This can be found in the T&Cs/small print of the Feel At Home rubbish.

I live and work in central London, switched from Vodafone where I got full bars to barley getting a signal with Three. In my office I just about get one bar, have to walk outside to make a phone call and even then the signal is really weak. Was in a supermarket the other day, again in central London and had no signal at all to call my other half. Came home with the wrong items and got a telling for it :stuck_out_tongue:

It'll work in anything but only supports data, now if you use voip or for example a data based messaging service this will work for phone calls, eg skype or voip and messaging eg facebook messenger, imessage, location based services and things like PokemonGo. I'm actually thinking this may be a better option than giving the kids a phone - just give them 12gb of data on an iPad (obviously modem/data enabled) and let them rock. If the novelty wears off we have a hotspot sim card for use in the mifi rather than having to hotspot off my own phone.

Is this from experience, or from the T&Cs? We have 4 contracts in our household, all on 3 unlimited data plans, for exactly the reason that we use them abroad. Whilst it's not always the very fastest and best internet that we get, we've rarely had any problems. The kids watched youtube videos pretty much the whole way driving down through France into Spain, and we used data loads in both Florida and California for mapping/sat nav, as well as all the usual internet stuff we do and never had any problem.

These are great for travelling on business and going abroad. 3 normally change about £5 for 500MB, they normally throw in another 100MB when you top up.
Have used this in the USA 3-4 times now and in Australia and never had a problem. Mainly for Waze (sat-nav) and even the odd bit of Geocaching and never used more than the £5 allowance provides.
It is data only is fine but that has been fine, especially with things like iOS Messenger and Facebook.
Phone \ text bundles can be added if necessary.

These data sims don't roam domestically but the standard sims will roam into EE (still displaying 3) in rural areas providing voice/text coverage only.
wildecat
18 Jul 16#38
If you put it in your phone and attempt a call it will be activated for voice at standard 321 rates.
You can only buy mobile broadband data bundles and not standard PAYG bundles.
Also, it won't roam onto EE for voice/text calls in rural areas.

I'm afraid that's a load of rubbish, I've had Three for over 4 years and never have any problems with coverage, even in remote locations, you can normally get something, I travel a lot in Wales and rarely have no signal. GSM is being phased out and all the carriers, EE, VF and now O2 are using 3G to carry voice calls and reusing the GSM frequencies for 4G as they are all short of bandwidth.

I was with them for 2 years. I travel all over the UK and Europe with work. I very rarely had a decent signal outside of built up areas. My work phone on EE was fine. I also had big issues with reception in my own house even though I live in a built up area. 3g and 4g signal doesn't penetrate far into buildings. That's why 2g GSM is still so useful. 3 also let someone take out a phone in my name and allowed this to be sent to an address over 100 miles from where I live. No security questions were asked and they never called me to confirm on my current mobile. Took 6 months to sort out my credit file and get money back. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole covered in dog mess.

18 Jul 16#59
In all of these threads with 3 data sims there is confusion over whether they can be used to make calls and text. Wierdly I've never got to the bottom of it by researching! On Three live chat they always can't you can't use them for either but on the product description details page the following is listed:
Data Reward SIM Preloaded with 1GB data (1 gb valid for 30 days) - texts 2p / calls 3p per min
Broadband - Pay As You Go + 3 (3gb valid for 3 months) - texts 10p
Broadband - Pay As You Go + 12 (12 gb valid for 12 months)
So being that no info regarding texts or calls in on the 12gb page maybe that means you can't do either. But then again it might not mean that at all, if what you say is right. If multiple people could buy it and check that'd be great :-D

Just to dispel some misinformation on this post;
This can be used in a phone as long as it is dual sim and you are using this sim as the default data sim. Then just get something like talkmobiles sim as the default for talk and text.
ihaveaquestion
18 Jul 16#61
But I'm no further forward tbh. It seems that you definitely can use the 3 month 3gb sim to text, it says so on the site. So I'm curious if its all all possible to text with this 12 month data sim and still don't know. I appreciate that it can be used in conjunction with other sims, but that doesn't answer the question.

18 Jul 16#65
This was the info I saw on the site and posted on the previous page:
Data Reward SIM Preloaded with 1GB data (1 gb valid for 30 days) - texts 2p / calls 3p per min
Broadband - Pay As You Go + 3 (3gb valid for 3 months) - texts 10p
Broadband - Pay As You Go + 12 (12 gb valid for 12 months)
so there seems to be different costs for various data packages, but the 12gb one being the most vague. In addition being that you can certainly text with at least some of the data packages I wonder if you can call too. I appreciate that there would of course be separate charges even if you can and that you'd need to top up etc.

gx3k - Okay this is what I suspect so now we're getting somewhere :-D. I notice on the top-up screen it mentions purchasing different add ons. So much misinformation in this thread. Feel at Home / aka Roaming is not included for free with Pre-Pay Mobile Broadband sims 12month - 12GB of data. Yes, you could potentially use this sim with 'Feel at Home' by purchasing a 30 day add-on, but compared to the price of the sim, the add-ons don't come cheap.
Pay per month 1GB. (lasts up to 30 days) 1GB. £10
Pay per month 3GB. (lasts up to 30 days) 3GB £15
Pay per month 7GB. (last up to 30 days). 7GB. £25

18 Jul 16#85
Well, there is also misinformation in the product description, since some/all Three data sims can be used for calls and texts if top ups are made.
Also, just to clear up the data point, the Three site says that you can use your existing data unless you're on an 'essential's plan'. This isn't an essentials plan, so I'm not sure that the 12GB here can't be used abroad.
The 12gb product description on the three site says:
"Use your allowances to call and text home and use data in 18 destinations worldwide. Terms apply. Search three.co.uk for 'feel at home'. "
It doesn't state as such that the 12GB is separate from what is included when roaming. I get that they sell add-ons, but am not sure that you'd need them before your 12GB ran out. I could be wrong of course.
"With Feel At Home, international data roaming is not subject to additional charges if you’re using your plan or an
Add-on allowance to get online from a Feel At Home destination (see page 9). As our mobile broadband plans do
not include voice or text allowances, you won’t be able to make calls or send texts back to the UK at no extra cost
from our Feel At Home destinations on these plans."
deals_on_wheels
18 Jul 16#86
The item is purchased from 7dayshop and they say this is what you are buying:
'With Three you can use it abroad at no extra cost in 19 Feel At Home destinations while on holiday, including USA, Australia, France and Spain, perfect for business trips or for family holidays to share the data' so there is no uncertainty there. If it doesn't do that then you could legitimately return it - goods not as described

I'm pretty sure it can be. Everything points towards that and I've used prepaid payg three sims abroad in the past without an add-on. I have no reason to believe it's changed unless someone can point me towards something stating otherwise.
The three mobile broadband page also states that "Because your plan’s allowance of data units can be used in the UK and in our Feel At Home destinations, you can get online while on holiday at no extra cost. No worries. Where and when you use your allowance is up to you."

Now this is very confusing as some here have posted screen grabs of their 12gb sim and are able to text etc. Could it be that this recently changed? Or perhaps that Three just like to try to put people off trying to use this as their primary SIM. I've ordered one anyway, so I'll be able to let people know eventually lol.
On the Three site itself it even shows the cost of texts, so it looks to me on that basis, and others direct experiences here that you can text:

You have to add an add-on to use abroad £10-£25 extra (valid for 30 days) or pay roaming rates, i.e. France is 3.9 per MB, or £40 per Gigabyte of Data. Feel at Home is not included on Pay as Go Broadband sims, you need the add-on to take advantage of Feel at Home. This is a PAYG sim preloaded with 12Gb of Data valid for 12 months (once activated). Three make this very, very confusing.
ihaveaquestion
18 Jul 16#105
Can you point to anything that actually states this, as there appears to be a fair bit of info pointing to you being able to use the 12GB abroad. I used a one month preloaded three sim abroad the other month and didn't need any topup.
tightar5e
18 Jul 16#106
Where are you reading that. The add-on tariffs page shows 3GB is £15, valid for 30 days.
I have this sim in an iPad mini, I was recently in Corsica France, i asked in the three store before I left and was told data roaming without an addon was 3.9p per MB. Thats also what I found when abroad.
The three website is very confusing in its wording, its all designed to make you think all sims now include 'Feel at Home', well it does now include Feel at Home, but that doesn't mean its included for free. Only the contract monthly tariffs include Feel at Home (inclusively for free), i.e. without additional charge, in the way of an add-on, which you need for Pay as you go Broadband sims.
I definitely couldn't get data as part of the 'Feel at home' on this sim, without adding an addon.
From Page 5:
Running out of data shouldn’t stop you enjoying your tablet. Just pop some more credit on your Account and maximise your top-up with one of our great value Add-ons for use within 30 days. What’s more, you can use your Add-on’s data allowance to get online abroad at no extra cost in 18 destinations worldwide with Feel At Home (see page 9).
The graphic at the bottom of page 5 explains it visually too. (might be easier)

Sorry but you are wrong.
I've been using these Sims for a while now in feel at home countries without any problems.

I thought you were referring to 3GB add-ons, not the actual PAYG Broadband Sim preloaded with 3GB. Get you now.
tightar5e
18 Jul 16#112
I'm quoting from three's terms and conditions, its there in black and white, you need an add-on valid for 30 days, to use your data add-on allowance in any one of the 18 Feel at home destinations. Are you sure you have this PAYG with 12GB inclusive sim and not a 30 day monthly contract sim? (which does work for free with Feel at Home)
Plus, aswell as my own experience using it in Europe, using this sim in an iPad mini Cellular.
Yes, the preloaded SIMs. You''e got me worried though as the site does seem a bit all ovver the place in terms of what is allowed. I've sent three an email.

Three is a fantastic network, their data deals are usually unbeaten in price, and the coverage (in my location) is always good.

Happens all the time. Used to be the same with CDKeys - one week it'd get <100, then a week later it'd randomly get 1000+, as though everyone had magically remembered that CDKeys did a quite cheap Xbox Live thing. People are just weird.

No, you can't use your phone as a WiFi hotspot in France. If you check the "What's not included" column it clearly says "You can't use your phone as a personal hotspot (tethering) while you're abroad."

I'm in Bulgaria at the moment visiting friends in Sunny Beach and a 3 week tourist SIM is 15 Lev (2.24 lev to the £). You get about 30 minutes worth of calls and a certain amount of texts (which I don't use anyway), and 1.5gb of data. The 4G is apparently quite new out here but very fast. I'm using the hotel lobby wifi because mine ran out last night but it's only 10 lev (£4.30?) to top up 1.5gb, 20 lev for 3gb and 30 for 10. Most bars have wifi but they're not very good but they will get you by if you run out of data.
can people keep posting massive images of t and c's and 3 info please i'm really getting into it.

Strange, my daughter has just been using it for 2 weeks in the USA with no problem (WhatsApp calls, text, pictures). 3 does not know her from Adam (or Eve) as it was bought from a third party supplier as here.
PS the Vodafone bill had 2 texts from her and a 20 sec call from when she forgot about the other SIM- this cost almost £3.

I chatted to them, they said similar, but the live chat staff seem confused too, and three terms definitely say different. They talked about a monthly 12gb data add-on for a PAYG. I tried to explain this is a PAYG Mobile Broadband Sim with 12GB preloaded, that you basically use up and throw away.
They seem to be suggesting that the 12GB preloaded is an 'add-on', that you have pre-bought therefore part of your allowance, and useable abroad.
The terms and conditions say different, the crux here is whether the 12GB preloaded data, acts as 'allowance' that can be used abroad or its a PAYG UK only allowance, that requires a further 30 day top-up to get Feel at Home (which is what the t&c say). Its very confusing, and I've now got different answers from the store, to the Live chat.
In fairness, Its such a nitty gritty point, that I don't think even their staff know to that level of detail.

Three Live Chat - Certainly one of the British 'unwritten rules' to be polite and say thank you, knowing full well you've just been fed a load of b*llcks!
None the wiser, I also asked if it was a 'new thing', a subtle change, I was in France in end of June-July, didn't work for me on an iPad, but the EU Internet setting (EU setting is only accessible with Data roaming on) also confusing on an iPad Celullar. and this should be off. Tried various ways, on-off, I couldn't get roaming data with this Sim.
Can I add credit and make calls as well? I was going to use the 200mb data free sim thing but add to that but this looks a better deal.

Right. Now just had a call back from 3 who had to go away and check the position with this. Apparently you definitely will be able to use this abroad withOUT further top ups (excluding America). BUT I was told you can't put it in a phone to use as a hotspot. You apparently need a MIFI or Dongle.
Please can anyone tell me if their experience is different? As I don't have one of these gadgets then I fear this SIM will not be any use for what I intended........

Ordered... now off to Currys to get the 4G Three MiFi Dongle for £20!
djmpne
19 Jul 16#146
How do you get it for £20 . Is it not on some type of rolling contract you have to sign up for?
krazykush
19 Jul 162#147
Correct It is on a 1 month rolling contract. The 4G dongle is £19.99 at the moment. I was able to get the manager to discount the dongle for me down to £5 as I explained I don't really need the 1 month rolling contract. He said I must take out the contract for a minimum of 1 month (£15p/m for 5GB), so to compensate he discounted £15 for me off the dongle.
I called Three and they said within 14 days you can call and cancel your 1 month contract and you will not be charged and you can keep the dongle... effectively got the dongle for £5! Will put the 12gb sim in once it arrives!

The guy I spoke to said that these SIM cards won't work in a phone and you need the MIFI thing. I don't know why but he was definite about this. Also he said that you couldn't tether it outside of the UK anyway. I'm going to currys to see if I can pick up one of the MIFIs without the contract for £20.

24 Jul 16#154
If I remember correctly the Wileyfox can only run one sim slot that is enabled for 3g/4g at a time ie. It is not dual 3g/4g.
Your other sim will need to be able to run on the 2g network for this '3' data sim to work.

See Three.co.uk/feelathome for details.
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/phones-broadband-and-sat-nav/broadband/mobile-broadband/three-pay-monthly-4g-mifi-10145754-pdt.html
and just not activate one of their plans and use this sim instead or do you have to activate a plan in store when you buy the mifi
Never buy these data plans if you have to hand over your bank account or credit card details to them

It's very much useless for anything other than basic email and web browsing.
YouTube/videos etc simply won't load.
This can be found in the T&Cs/small print of the Feel At Home rubbish.
I bought one of theses sims earlier in the year to use in a tablet. Would love to have one in my phone as well but only if I can also use it to make calls and text.
Of course you can use it in your phone ! INTERNET ACCESS ONLY, or use the phone as a Wi Fi Hotspot (like a dongle).
Hot.
You can only buy mobile broadband data bundles and not standard PAYG bundles.
Also, it won't roam onto EE for voice/text calls in rural areas.

Also - anyone aware of any good deals to buy a 4G MiFi dongle that I can put this sim in?
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/4g-mobile-internet-abroad-23-for-20gb-19-99-for-mifi-1-month-rolling-contract-currys-2481288?p=28430637
2% quidco avalible too.
This can be used in a phone as long as it is dual sim and you are using this sim as the default data sim. Then just get something like talkmobiles sim as the default for talk and text.
She had it in a dual SIM and used this as the internet SIM and left the other set to calls and texts.
Thanks
Still potentially a fair bit of data over time.... though that said, it likely only applies to time actively using the app so this might be sufficient for a few months?
http://www.three.co.uk/Support/Pay_As_You_Go/Mobile_broadband_tariff
Add-on. Allowance. Price.
Pay per month 1GB. (lasts up to 30 days) 1GB. £10
Pay per month 3GB. (lasts up to 30 days) 3GB £15
Pay per month 7GB. (last up to 30 days). 7GB. £25
or
Pay per month 500MB. (lasts up to 48 hours) 500MB £2.99
The three mobile broadband page also states that "Because your plan’s allowance of data units can be used in the UK and in our Feel At Home destinations, you can get online while on holiday at no extra cost. No worries. Where and when you use your allowance is up to you."
Also I'm guessing you can't just add the 12GB data to a current three sim.
I just came back from Denmark. On arrival, via text, three confirmed:
That said, I've found the three network at home and abroad to be the biggest pile of whatsit that I'm ditching and looking for another EE deal.
Please help!!
link
On the Three site itself it even shows the cost of texts, so it looks to me on that basis, and others direct experiences here that you can text:
these work on audi cars
The three website is very confusing in its wording, its all designed to make you think all sims now include 'Feel at Home', well it does now include Feel at Home, but that doesn't mean its included for free. Only the contract monthly tariffs include Feel at Home (inclusively for free), i.e. without additional charge, in the way of an add-on, which you need for Pay as you go Broadband sims.
I definitely couldn't get data as part of the 'Feel at home' on this sim, without adding an addon.
Check this link terms and conditions:
http://www.three.co.uk/ss/Satellite?blobcol=urldata&blobheader=application%2Fpdf&blobkey=id&blobnocache=false&blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobwhere=1400791336360&ssbinary=true
I've been using these Sims for a while now in feel at home countries without any problems.
The only thing you need to do is make sure when you first activate the sim you are actually in the UK, this is to stop expats getting them posted abroad for cheap internet.
Plus, aswell as my own experience using it in Europe, using this sim in an iPad mini Cellular.
Its possible that the 200MB free data Broadband PAYG tariff might be useable as part of Feel at Home, because this happens with a £5 top-up to the mobile call+text+data sim 3-2-1 tariff, you get 150MB of free data valid for 30 days, which can be used abroad, but for larger amounts t&c show you need an add-on. Terms and Conditions: Page 5, see the graphic at bottom of page.

Voting on this this site is pretty shocking sometimes...
3 used to be terrible but they have improved no end.
EE might be better but Vodafone and O2 have been worse for me.
3's no worse than the others, only not as expensive (though catching up I notice!)
PS the Vodafone bill had 2 texts from her and a 20 sec call from when she forgot about the other SIM- this cost almost £3.
