Just had this email from Chester Zoo who NEVER give discounts....
It's been a year since we first opened Islands at Chester Zoo and since then we've welcomed lots of new animal arrivals and seen the South East Asian habitats transformed.
We're celebrating this weekend so whether it’s your first visit, or you’re keen to see what’s changed since your last visit, we want to give you the chance to book tickets online for this weekend only at over 30% off the gate price.
Book online before 10am on Saturday or Sunday to get these prices. Looks like good weather too so double bonus
The dinosaur exhibition is also still on so a really full on family day out

I fully understand that in business hitting the sweet spot in pricing where you maximise your revenue is vitally important.
My argument is that I don't think their current pricing model does that as they are pricing a fair number of families out of the market.
The fact that Chester Zoo is actually doing a 30% off weekend suggests that they are considering this issue themselves.
If you also consider that Zoos have a secondary mission to help with conservation and to educate, then a pricing model that brings more people through the gates should be considered, even if it produced a slight fall in revenue.

I totally respect your view and see where you're coming from. But if they calculate that the increase in sales with a lower price wouldn't make up for the lower revenue, then they'd be worse off.

Chester Zoo and any decent zoo for that matter justify their existence in part with their conservation work etc.
Bringing the plight of animals around the world to the attention of the public should not just be aimed at people with a high disposable income. A family day out that costs £100 is an awful lot of money for some families, and that's without factoring in the ripoff prices inside for drinks etc.
At busy times of year the zoo can be very full so discounts probably wouldn't be advisable, but half price tickets in the off season would enable more families to visit the zoo, and may just generate more income for the zoo overall in the process.
I am a supporter of Chester Zoo and have a membership which my family have used many times this year, but I strongly feel they need to make places like this more accessible to struggling families.

I'm on a downer about Chester Zoo at the moment. Visiting the Zoo should be available for anyone to enjoy, and yet they charge £100 for a family of four for the day. Seems like you need to be a member of a wealthy family to enjoy the zoo. Why can't these places charge less to get more people visiting?

It costs me £1 a day to feed my dog. How much do you think it costs to feed an elephant?
Book online a day before and you can get a family of four for less than £80. Take a packed lunch like we did: there are plenty of places to sit and eat scattered around the zoo.

Upkeep and care for tons of animals, many of them exotic, is going to be very expensive. I highly doubt they're just trying to rip people off for their own benefit.
Anyways, I wish I lived closer. Really want to go there after watching Secret Life of the Zoo. Seems like a nice place.

I tend to agree with you on price, it would be nice if they offered discounts during the quieter times of the year.

I went a short while ago and was a little disappointed. The building work on the elephant enclosures was frustrating but that's unfortunate. It poured down which didn't help!
There are better zoos out there but this is a reasonable entry price.

Took my two-year old here in March and she has not stopped talking about it since. We filled the entire day, it was a really great place, loads to see and do, the animals all seem to have plenty of room and seem happy. (I'm not a huge fan of the idea of animals sitting waiting to be gawped at normally).
The Islands exhibition was great, we didn't have to queue for the boat ride and enjoyed it. Not sure I'd have wanted to wait 45 minutes for it (which you will, on discount day!) as there is so much else to see your time is better served there.
Get a monorail pass. If you have more than one journey on the monorail, you'll save money and it's a great way to spare your feet and see the animals from another angle.
Also, if you live nearby, they'll email you a week after your visit and offer to discount your tickets price off an annual pass, so if you enjoyed the day and would go again, you'll save money there too.
Top day out.

Shame it's raining over weekend. Would've been nice to go. Last time I went was 25 years ago. Was brilliant back then

Cheaper than that deal and you don't have to go to Cheshire Oaks... I mean they don't do offers like Knowsley like £10 a car and stuff or vouchers from toilet roll or cornflakes ;-)
This is somewhere I am dying to go Thanks for the deal
