Worth stating that this is the SX410 camera. I bought this a while ago and it's a great little camera for the beginner.

Looks good with a full 40X optical zoom equivalent to 24mm to 960mm zoom
Digic 4+ processor too and image stabilisation, not a great deal of manual control and only 720p video but a very capable performer for anyone that wants just an auto camera with the ability to monster zoom into whatever scene they feel like!

If you just want some good snaps it won't be any good - because you left it at home because it's too big for your pocket. If you want some serious photos it won't be any good - because it's not good enough. 40x zoom is no good unless you're prepared to lug a tripod with you too. Don't think it has a viewfinder either.
Looks like a lot of camera for the money, which it is, but in the real world these simple bridge cameras are fairly pointless really.

Wow. A blanket statement like "these zoom cameras are fairly pointless" is dangerous. I have a Sony DSC-HX300 50x bridge camera, which is one of those "zoom" cameras, and the photos on that are brilliant. The image stabilisation is fantastic and if you keep your arms steady, you can get perfectly reasonable pictures at 300x zoom (digital) if you dont have a tripod. At full 50x optical zoom the photos are brilliant. So dont go branding all zoom cameras as rubbish, based on the quality of the one you used costing 50p.

Would this be suitable for taking moving images i.e. Sports photos?

No comparison between your Sony and this 'toy'. Meant to say 'bridge' not 'zoom', sorry. I didn't say it's awful, just pointless as it'll appeal to those who just want snapshots who'll then realise its size is a nuisance. They'd be better off with a decent compact.
At least it has a Li-ion battery though.

If you can get CHDK on this model of camera it would be awesome -- all the manual controls you want, RAW mode, EV and focus bracketing, etc.etc.etc. Can't go wrong for this price.

Thank God. The red is awful.

Er, the Sony is also a bridge camera. Let's just say you meant to say "giraffe" and put an end to this. :innocent:
