Only just seen this but well worth a go if your in the market for a decent bike:
Boardman Road Team Carbon Bike £999
20% off all Boardman bikes today at Halfords making it £799.20
If you reserve it and have a cycle2work scheme at work you could get another 30/40% off taking it down to around half price.
It's worth a punt"

I managed to get a Genesis Equilibrium SS for the same price last year since they discontinued it. Then I never ended up using it because it always rains, our roads are terrible and I never knew how much people hate Cyclists, constantly have people mouthing off and tying to run you off the road.
So I never ended up using it and just hung it on my wall as it's a beautiful bike lol.... worth it...

you sure? 10 years ago maybe, your just leasing the bike your employer owns, after 12 months you would have to pay 25% on a bike over £500 if your company style it you - read T&C's - disposal drops to 7% in year 4

Do you ride like a d1ck?
Can't say I've had problems with most other road users when riding on the roads TBH.... I'll give you the weather one though, t055 for the last couple of months :disappointed:

I feel for you mate. Cycling to work for 3 years now and the level of abuse from motorists, pedestrians etc is just appalling. Just the other day I was on the cycle path and somebody lobbed food at me from a speeding car. I wouldn't recommend cycling to anybody in this country.

Maybe it's Sheffield but I've had 2 years riding roads and never had issue. Now, accepted, I'm in work before rush hour and out long after it but... no issues.
I've come off once (and it was another cyclist who caused it) and had 1 absolute "brake hard or mount the idiots bonnet" moment and another maybe/close one. Equally, I've had car users driving in a way that defends/helps me.
Can't disagree on the rain and roads comments though, Sheffield has the worst roads in the UK (officially) and we've got the peak district next to us so it's rare it's NOT wet (and the hills, sweet jesus, the hills) otherwise, can't grumble

Good deal, I ordered one for collection then ordered the SLR because wasn't sure if I'd regret not getting better spec. Then I read Slannmage's comments above and start to think a road bike is a bad idea

How do you figure 30-40% off? Surely it's dependent on your tax bracket- so 20-40%. You need to ask your work of they will let you do this, of your self employed shouldn't be an issue.
And yes as I say it is dependant upon your employer but the deal is 20% off Boardmans the cycle2work deal is a bonus if you can get it.

Deals like this are great. Buy it on cycle2 work scheme. Pay it off over the year and sell on the bike and do it again. If you buy the right product at the right price it costs you virtually nothing to ride a brand new quality bike every year. What's not to like.

You continue the cycle2work agreement after the 12 months (just a paperwork exercise) which is then written off and it's all yours. Done it once already in 2014 so know how it works.

Think it depends on the company and the actual scheme... There are a few schemes all called slightly different things I.e. Cycle scheme / ride to work etc
In my work you choose the bike, money is taken over 12 or 18 months via salary sacrifice then you own the bike with no final payment after the 12 or 18 month payments are complete.

As white citadel is saying that was 10 years ago - all schemes have to abide by hmrc rules which tightened up the rules alot over last 5 years. The biggy being bikes have a residue value with tax liability for years (check hmrc for exact figures and the difference for bikes above or and below £500). To stop and start another lease requires either return of asset (at your cost and usually set to be prohibitive as your finance company really doesn't want it) or the outstanding tax payment - trying every year may land you with a big bill or the threat of tax evasion. Pretty sure which ever scheme you are in you will see in the docs reference an ongoing 36 month lease at the end of the first 12 months.

I bought the boardman pro carbon (2015) model when it was in the Christmas sale for £1000 with the cycle to work team+ £100 worth of kit. If there's any left try and get the SLR from 2014. It's full ultegra and a bargain if you can find one.

Would this Planet X pro carbon with Ultegra groupset not be a better deal for £999? I need to choose a bike by the end of the month for my cycle to work scheme and can't decide what to get.
Have you noticed that if there's a police car around then suddenly car drivers couldn't be more considerate to cyclists.

Heated. But in my opinion it's not that great a deal. £800 for a heavy carbon bike with incomplete Tiagra groupset and rubbish wheels. Granted Tiagra 4700 is a very decent kit.
But the biggest complaint is that it's just plainly ugly.

Cycle to work doesn't just happen over night (having used it twice myself) it's take a good 1-2months to get going and to receive
bike etc by which time this offer could be long gone, so a bit misleading.....

If it takes 1-2 months you need to speak to your admin and accounts depts in your company. I am the admin of our ride2work scheme and last week got one sorted and certificate emailed in 3-4 days.

This is now down to £799.20? It says discount already applied, but is that the same discount as the printable voucher?

About twenty years ago riding along a country road a passenger from a passing car gobbed on me right in the face then he passed me again and tried to throw a stick through a wheel luckily it missed.I did not get the full reg plate but new the car type and color and was driven bye a young prat?
So picked up a rock if I come across these idiots again ,and I did 2 miles up the road in a petrol station so steered into their with brick raised and the car roared out just missing a bus turning.Reported this at a local police shop.
So there always has and will be idiots like this in society.
