*I'm using a 128GB MicroSD with my MiniMXIII, not sure about this box, though. Beelink apparently do quite a few firmware updates - looks like the latest firmware is 107L1, see Post #8.
This is the sort of thing I used to do when I was 17, I'm 45 now, what was more impressive to me about it was there was no Internet to get help from, just various magazines and books and most of the stuff you worked out yourself. Things are far easier to hack now with all the resources available.
I actually think Google has made us all dumber. Retain information? Nope just Google for it.

Just realised the Gearbest blurb I pasted on my thread opener post says "2GB RAM, 16GB ROM", pretty sure that's an error. This box is 1GB RAM. Didn't get a chance to read up on this box as it was around 1am when I posted, but I'll have a look at the links
*Actually there's a 2GB/16GB version in the options, so that'll be why.

Looks like the latest firmware is 107L1. Beelink forum here http://www.bee-link.com/Beelink-forum-43-1.html (a few queries on there for the Mini MXIII which is a separate forum section - members must be confused :stuck_out_tongue:)

Would like to know this too - currently looking at this or the M8S, but I hear both have their share of drawbacks, so would be curious to know what the best option currently would be.

Look for boxes with Amlogic S905X chipset or S912 most if not all of them already have Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) installed.
I have this box and it's excellent. Beelink is good brand when it comes to cheap android boxes and would take this over other choices at this spec and price. main problem people give themselves is by overloading the box with apps and kodi add ons which slows box down.
I use mine purely for kodi and only have a few add ons, works perfectly since I've had it. Bought the newer, higher spec version as it was on offer but not used it as this hasn't given any issues.

does this play 4k H.265 video files fine?

built in android sony tv seems to be unable to handle h.265 especially 4k ones.
and can this power a 2.5inch portable hard drive to watch files from?

I would like to know this too. I have no idea why all TV reviews completely ignore media playback given it's so spotty on some TV's. They should run the Jellyfish tests at least...http://jell.yfish.us/
Original installed kodi jarvis beta, without pvr plugins.
I uninstall and install latest beta jarvis from kodi.tv, already pvr working.
Rom seems rooted with root checker, but I try to make framerate change within kodi with init d edit (chmod 666) and kodi autoframerate plugin. Sadly with universal init.d I cannot make writable the hdmimode file
This need further investigation."
Though this member seems to be using OpenELEC, not sure if that makes a difference. ...and I just realised Freaktab uses the US calendar - woops!

Thanks OP, Took a punt on it for in the shed as I have an older 20" LCD TV that I can fix permanently in there and saves me taking out a tablet. Almost went for the 2gb S905X for a little more £££ thats on offer http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_414193.html
but this should serve my needs.

I'd sooner spend a few more notes and get similar with 2Gb RAM at least then it should run everything smoothly.

"Very-very fast, faster with android than mxq with openelec.
Also faster than mxIII-G. CEC working, the latest Rom 12-04-2015.
Plays everything except dolby hd with installed kodi.
H.264 uhd, h.265 uhd 10 bit too with good playback quality.
