didn't realise they still made laptops without
Bluetooth!
This laptop has a problem with buzzing sounds appearing from the left side of the laptop (near the charger port).
The buzzing appears only when scrolling up and down and also when pressing the up & down keys.
A quick Google shows that similar machines (not just ASUS) have this issue around the charger area and is described as a "squeal" by some.
For me, the buzzing issue is not too bad as I'm always in a loud environment or have my music on. But if your prefer silence then this sound will distract you

Hello
Quick question as I am maybe going to buy this one ASUS X556UA
I would like to know what is wrong with the dual core (2.5GHZ), isnt it enough ?
Also, can you uninstall windows 10 and run any other operating system ?
thanks a lot

Hi,
I find nothing wrong with the CPU but I do not really do high demand activities so it will depend on what you are wanting if for.
I'm not sure about uninstalling the Windows 10 question but I don't see why you would want to as the OS is quite good I find.

Would be interested to know what was wrong with the laptop for SD1266 to return it. On paper the specs are good and I'm tempted to buy one.

I bought this laptop
I like it.
Touchpad is good and not cheap style like most lenovo laptops have.
The screen is nice but the viewing angle may annoy some as already mentioned above, however I find that adjusting the lid position is enough to improve the view.
Battery life is about 3 hours on moderate usage
Laptop wire is quite thin and short compared to other wires.
If you need any other info just ask

Was there anything about the laptop you liked/ disliked other than what you have mentioned?

Whilst the 1080p resolution was nice, the viewing angles were rather poor as was the colour reproduction. That's just my opinion though

Oh no, disappointed to hear the screen is poor. What was wrong with it?

I can confirm that it definitely does not have a 1TB SSD  Complained and they offered £40 partial refund. I ended up returning it due to the screen being poor anyhow.

They likely just read the description on their own website.
It's currently extremely rare to see a 1TB SSD on a laptop at any price.

I emailed them about the hard drive.
Got a reply saying their site is correct and it's ssd
Might buy it and check. I've got that email handy so let's see what happens
Most likely is HDD since even Asus website shows no 1tb ssd in the x556ua section

For someone looking for a quad core i7 with a 15.6 FHD screen there is a great deal for a Dell Workstation laptop for £652 delivered with a 3-year onsite warranty.
It’s a refurb though and the graphics should be an AMD FirePro W5130M which is not great so around R9 M265X level.

If it is listed then they need to provide it surely? Or compensate you enough to buy one.

It does state 1TB SSD, not hybrid and certainly not a mechanical hard drive.
If this turned out to have either of the two lesser options, I would certainly complain about it for a partial refund. If you're purchasing this I'd say it's worth screenshotting or saving the webpage for future reference.

Would this have an IPS screen?

Yea I haven't a clue with that. Think John Lewis messed up the description. Maybe they mean it's a hybrid?

they did that before with my laptop that turned out to have a matte screen when it was described as glossy

John Lewis are terrible with their tech descriptions. All it would take is someone to check the box before it is listed.

You also get 2 year guarantee from John Lewis which in comparison I think you only get one from everywhere else
