Having spent the last year travelling all over the world, taken in excess of 30 flights, my experience is baggage handling staff do not cut open suitcases regularly.

Watch the weight of the case if you only have 10 or 15 kg in the cabin - it takes up nearly 3kg of that allowance empty!
