The daughter of friends of ours brought her new boyfriend home to meet her parents. She asked her dad to make the boyfriend a cup of coffee. The family aren't coffee drinkers, but keep a jar handy in case of emergencies. So off her dad went to the kitchen, and returned some minutes later with the coffee. So while the boyfriend was drinking his coffee, very slowly by all accounts, he kept making a face each time he took a sip. After about 10 minutes or so her dad plucked up the courage to ask if there was anything wrong with the coffee, thinking the milk might be off or the lad needed sugar, or whatever. So right enough, the boyfriend said the coffee tasted funny. So the dad relieved him of the coffee and went back to the kitchen to see what the problem might be. And, lo and behold, there was the jar of Bisto Gravy Granuals sitting on the worktop.

Doesn't actually taste like coffee though.

I have heard of that complaint, however, I rarely drink neat espresso, so it's not been a major concern for me.

Hi, where is the best place to buy capsules. Just went to home bargains expresso only. Morrisons did not have any.

Just saw this, £4.98 at Tesco. Just add hot (but nuot boiling, water) and milk or sugar to taste...

For comparison...

Delonghi Bean to cup machine + Lavazza Creme e Aroma beans + 150ml of milk in 250ml pyrex jug for 60 seconds in microwave poured into Lifeventure mug/flask +
double shot of coffee in the same jug (~40 seconds) then poured into aforementioned mug/flask + sprinkle of chocolate = 300ml of top notch coffee and one very happy commuter.

The Delonghi gets cleaned once a week (5 minutes on a Sunday) and I buy one 1 Kg bag of beans from Amazon on subscribe and save for under £10 per month. I reckon I get around 40-50 double shots per 1Kg bag (I grind some coffee to take to work for use in an Aeropress).

Home bargains here I come at £2 a box.

I have this it makes amazing coffee ,but only paid £39 for it last year from Tesco direct with free frother ,but is last year's model have a look to see what they have online

I had the original Gaggia classic, wasn't aware there's a version 2 lol. Too much hassle I'm afraid but the coffee was insatiable.

Coffee is a rubbish drink anyway, no real benefits. Just the last twenty years it's become the drug of the nation.

It costs as much to buy a coffee in a coffee shop as a pint in a pub, ridiculous.

No, you should stop buying ANY pod coffee and buy one of these. And some decent coffee beans. And that goes for the rest of you who drink instant coffee in pod form. :laughing:

I have the slimmer looking model think the same pressure wise and stuff, pods are the same I like the lungo lovely coffee pods I normally get from John Lewis or direct online when on offer.

I was looking at these to replace my nespresso lattissima+ I thought was faulty (turned out to be just bad compatible pods). I watched quite a few reviews and one thing that put me off was the length of time to brew coffee. Regardless of blend the machine takes 2 mins to make a reasonable amount (lungo or double shot equivalent) then the time to froth the milk.
My lattissima+ froths the milk and dispenses the espresso (lungo shot) in less than a minute.
Sure the nespresso pods are not lavazza but they are great tasting and there is some great compatible pods out there for nespresso machines as long as you get decent ones including Carte noir and Starbucks (starting this summer).
These lavazza machines seem slow and not worth the money unless you get for a bargain price !!

I've also tried a mokka pot, but if I'm going to faff with that, I would prefer to spend the effort making Turkish coffee on the hob.

That's where I'm coming from. I used to have a Gaggia but took too long to make coffee in the morning before work, then a delonghi bean to cup but that was too big and quite messy, so opted for pods. Tassimo belongs in the bin, except for tea and hot chocolate. Illy is brilliant in terms of taste, space, cleanliness but pods are expensive (around £9.50 for 21 so 45p a shot).

I also have one of these but stays in the draw now as cannot be bothered with the messing around. Turn on, put pod in, press button, no cleaning

I can't answer that, but i know this makes very good coffee. The pods are usually between £3-5 depending on blend. John Lewis always do reductions and you can stock up. Some of the expensive pods in this range go down to £4 in the sale and they are very very nice coffee. hmm might have a decaf now actually which is also very good tasting especially made with the frothed milk for those late coffee fixes without the caffeine.

The lavazza machine won a which best buy. This produces brilliant tasting coffee. as good if not better than nespresso which is overpriced nescafe. lavazza is proper italian coffee in a pod.
