This deal is for a "little" portable/USB powered drive, while the Western Digital deal you linked to is for a large desktop/mains powered one.

The refurbs only have 6 month warranty which shows they have little confidence. Refurb - previously broke and will again.
USB 3 and 2 year manufacturers guarantee. Nice price op for a portable drive.

Will this work in ps4..

Nice one. Most decent 2TB portable drives are just below or in this price range so an extra 1TB for maybe only a few quid more sounds like a great deal to me. Never had a Toshiba external hard drive before but not read anything to put me off buying one. I'm very tempted now that my Samsung 2TB one is getting close to full.

This would be a bit of a dog (slow) but with usb3 makes it a very viable option. As cheap as equivalen 3.5 internal drive. 130Mb/s on some benchmarks.

I actually bought one of these the other day. Nice drive but it WILL only be an external. From what I've seen the USB connector is soldered directly onto the hard drives board. So can't be used internally in laptops or PS4 etc.
YouTube Link is from a 500GB one but I believe it's the same for all the Toshiba Canvios. This isn't 100% confirmed but you are risking your warranty to find out.
Great price though, I bought it to allow full backups of my laptop which has 2tb and a 500gb installed.

And then what? You will end up with a drive with no interfaces! From the looks of it there are no SATA ports only USB.

So just to clarify for people not in the know! With or without a soldering iron can this be taken out of the case and used in a ps4? My 500gb is full with only about 5 games Inc dlc and 2tb seems the minimum size worth the bother but I'd happily take a 3tb for a few quid more than 2tb.

could this be used for updating ps4 memory?

Many of the portable Toshiba drives have USB directly on the PCB now.
Unless someone can confirm this specific drive isn't like that, I wouldn't buy it with the idea of dismantling it.

They usually have both? The sata plugs into the caddy and the usb comes from the caddy, unless alot has changed since I worked as an IT engineer

It's changed in many drives.
The PCBs are often purely USB, without the ability to hook up SATA at all.

Can I ask why ? Reliability issue ?

wow surely thats more of a cost, buy drives in bulk from manufacturers, this would incur charges for differences surely!

Cheaper in most cases. One PCB instead of two. And the cases can be a bit smaller.

Good point but usb isnt usually on a drive for retail, all the drives ive ever bought is sata slotted into case with USB added to caddy still got my 100gb full of MP3 :sunglasses:

:disappointed: I bought one on Monday for £74.99 (no voucher either), you don't suppose Argos would refund the difference like Amazon do?

other colours available too...
Not voting either way though as some may prefer new drives over refurbished
