No use for most people but these are getting harder to source most have a linear scale, these are Logarithmic suitable for analogue signals and I can tell you you get a big bag for £10 - similar items from China are far more expensive

During the time the page was on your screen a number of other people hit cold but the page doesn't refresh itself, then you hit hot and the page refreshed which then showed the value including the minus votes plus your hot vote.
This seems to continually confuse people

True. To be fair, I ended up getting amp for nothing as Royal Mail damaged it during delivery (and so trashed the unique volume pot) so I spent the refund on that TKD. Total overkill, I know, but the amp was otherwise fine and it seemed a shame to chuck it. At the time, the TKD was £48 and, as I say, is a very nice controller  The six pins on the pot go, respectively, to the six pins I've highlighted. That Alps pot should just slot straight in. I had to attach the TKD in mine using wire soldered to what was left of the original pot due to the amount of other damage in that area.

68 notes! I don't think the amp is worth that. Someone else recommended Alps Blue Velvet but I have no idea how to wire the 6 pins to the connectors left on PCB. I appreciate the pointer though.

this was where you went to when you wanted to relax and listen to music in the comfort of your soft armchair in your own home. A place where you could appreciate the intricate details of finely produced music without bothering the person sitting next to you on the bus with your terrible choices of mass media produced common beat sequenced auto-tuned excuse for culture and 'freedom'

Genuinely intrigued, but still no idea what this is for or why it is rated hot!

It's the bit behind the knobs that made the volume, bass and treble go up an down on music centres like this. Also used on old TV sets to adjust the volume, brightness and contrast levels.Other variations of this rotary device were sliding versions
When this bit went faulty you could buy a spare and replace the faulty one unlike today where it is just cheaper to throw the whole unit away and buy a new one.
Of little use these days and thats why it's voted hot
Next question - what is/was a music centre ?

If it's logarithmic shouldn't it be 100?

so can these be used as a volume controller on a MAME setup using a raspberry pi?

WTF are you doing that you need 200? (genuine question) Or even more than a couple. It's a good price for so many, but if you just need a couple and aren't in a desperate rush; search aliexpress for logarithmic pot and you'll find 5 for $1.20. Which at the time of posting is still just under £10.

I didn't for one second think I'd be excited by the picture, not knowing what the feck it is, but I am.
Clearly I have been searching for the wrong think on pornhub.
This means there's no longer any balance control but the amp sounds fabulous and has a well-weighted knob with a lovely silky feel...

If you're used to riding a pocket rocket that does 0-60 in 3s then you're probably not going to get excited by electrical components - even a logarithmic volume potentiometer.
That said, I'd get a lot more excited if he could find me a replacement volume pot for an old Pioneer A400 as they are pure unobtanium.
