Still a pathetic price. Is it going to drop anywhere near the ~£260 the GTX 970 was around launch any time soon, or is this the kind of gouging we're going to have to get used to?

The back-cover seems to be supporting most of the card, but in a R4 fractal case the GPU overhands the lower HDD casing, therefore I'm getting some Velcro, lego, and using one of the lego characters to support the car corrner of the card up

People forget the resale value too i have a 970 i paid 250 for i can easy get 100 quid+ for this so thats 150 quid for all the time i used it.... bargain! Always better to get the best single card you can afford obv the 1070 and 1080 are silly prices specially yje 1070 its the 970 upgrade for nearly double the price of the 970 release... wtf

Card is amazing. Compared to a 660:
* Doom with unlimited FPS gives 60C at 20% fan
* Rocket League actually feels like it's slowed down because there's less frame jitters, I may be able to get into the gold leagues! (possibly. Maybe. Perhaps not...)
* Star Conflict (Pixel Shader 3.0 compliant) has caused my GFX card to squeak a little on the first day, but has settled down since. I assume this was the capacitors warming up, but keeping an ear out for it.
* 100% fan on manual is LOUD, but if it ever needs to do 100% then something else is fundamentally wrong.
* Does not come with Display Port adaptors - and the one I had from last year does not want to work with a 1080p60fps monitor. Ordered a new DP adaptor as I hope this is the issue. I would hate to have to send this back if I can't get my three monitors working... (even if the specifications state it can do 4 monitors...)

I'd thought about that and maybe, but not immediately. However, is it much of a real-world difference? Numerically, it seems kinda like the jump from 720p to 1080p and there's not much in that, truth be told, is there?

Got the card yesterday. Holy cow is it massive! On a hot day like yesterday it was idling at 39-40 degrees with the fans off. Very surprised with that result as I had a 7950 that was alot more audible at that idling temp

I'm tempted. But I like to just put everything on ultra when I buy a new graphics card and still get 60+ fps. I am tempted though!
I know ultra doesn't make that much difference, but it's nice to not play around with settings. I know it sounds a bit stupid. haha
My current card is a 7970 and it's lasted great. I'm selling it for 100 to a mate, so it's only cost me 200 over 4 years.
edit; derp. thought you were replying to me. haha

It is overkill for 1080p on most games, as this card is for 1440p. Are you upgrading your monitor to 1440p?
amd12345
20 Jul 16#225
I thought the same as you. But the 1060 doesn't run some games on ultra at 60 fps currently, so it put me off. So I decided to keep my order of the 1070. I want to keep it for 2-3 years though.
The 1060 runs the witcher 3 on ultra with an average frame rate of 45! The standard 1070 runs around 65 fps.

Mine just changed from "Will despatch 17 August" to "Will despatch 21 July"! WIN! Ordered 3 July, incidentally.
But.... having second thoughts that it's overkill for 1080p gaming. Thinking of cancelling and buying a 1060/RX480 instead. Could save £150 but don't want to be turning settings down in 12 months or so because games need more power. But everyone says you can't future-proof your PC!
Thoughts? Help!

Got mine last Wednesday but could not use it as it did not fit in my case. primed a corsair 400q which took it no problems and has been great so far.
can get 2050ghz overclock and hovers between 62-65c with the fans inaudible in the quite case with the top on! so very limited air flow.
Boosted to 2000ghz out the box so could not really push it much further but to say im happy with it would be an understatement for the price paid.
jono8
18 Jul 161#216
Yup, got mine today. Very happy apart from the fan revving thing but that can be fixed quite easily with a custom fan curve ( still having them completely off until a certain temp etc). Seems to boost to 2ghz out of the box.
It is a ridiculously sized thing but runs very cool. Even in the crazy 30 degree heat today it was only hovering around 60 degrees on full load.

From what I have read it is quite annoying if your card is running at 60 deg. I believe you can set a profile so that the fans run at a minimum if 35%
Rbourne
15 Jul 16#202
Is that an issue or by design? It sounds like the Freeze technology on the cards. If it's distracting then I'm sure there's an ability somewhere to customise or deactivate this feature to keep the fans running constantly?
Zaxxan
15 Jul 16#201
Is anyone who has received their card having issues with the fans revving up and down? I have been reading that this is a common problem with the 1070 and 1080 extreme versions. It appears that the fans turn on at 60 deg and if you have a light load on the card they keep switching on and off because the fans don't run at less than 970 rpm. Apparently it is very noticable and was also a issue on the 980ti versions as well.

I thought the same in all honesty. But my advisor went away for a few minutes and came back and said he's spoken to the fulfilment centre or something and they told him they're getting a shipment of the item on 17th so he had a source for the information rather than simply just inferring based on the date on my order. Just thought I'd pass the message on.

HTJ
11 Jul 16#169
I wouldn't put much stock in the information provided by the advisors. Several have told me that they have no more information than the customer on shipping dates, so I would guess that your advisor has seen that the latest day for delivery is the 18th and inferred that the stock will be in by the 17th.
jeffthealien
11 Jul 16#168
I wouldn't even say that long, give it a month or so for stock to stabilise and these will be hovering around the £370 mark, plus if you know anyone's who's a student, you can get another 5% off.

jeffthealien
11 Jul 16#166
That's essentially what I was referring too. It's worth keeping an eye out on the Warehouse Deals but I can't imagine an open-box deal of one of these be much cheaper, if at all than a brand new one. If you're yet to order, I would wait a little for prices to drop again.
Rbourne
11 Jul 16#165
I was more thinking if I'd be possibly getting one that someone's opened, failed to install and returned, if it goes back for refurbishment or gets re-dispatched after a light visual check.
xenononon
11 Jul 16#164
Jono I ordered same day as you with the 13th to 18th estimate. I just live chatted Amazon and the guy told me that they are getting their shipment on Sunday 17th July so seems it's Monday 18th that we'll get it.
jeffthealien
11 Jul 16#163
Probably not, with it being a new item. Some of the Warehouse deals are actually more pricey when buying new, so either way I doubt this card will be much lower than the £380-£400 mark.
Rbourne
11 Jul 16#162

I've managed to get another 60mhz on the core, no problem whatsoever. The power limit is 120 so there's room for a bit more. Really impressed so far, the only thing that slightly bothered me was the default fan profile as it often turns on and off during moderate gaming, which is fairly audible, so my advice is to set the fans to between 30-40 when having a decent gaming session.

10 Jul 16#148
Yeah, no big sites have done one yet which is oddly strange as stock has been around both here and in the US for almost two weeks now so I can only assume zotac didn't send out review samples. Odd decision given how good the cards are. I've looked over youtube and reddit and found that these are easily up there with the best air custom cards.
Anyway, had a rift sitting here for about three weeks now so I can't wait.

To be honest, if you ordered as soon as you saw this thread, chances are you'll get a notification at some point today. Meh, mine still says its coming next week and I, like a lot, have student prime discount on top making it more like £370. I am actually getting it for £347 as they have added the whole of my student discount for this term on to it as for some reason on the cancelled 1080 order I had, the discount allowance was lost/didn't get given back. They have therefore applied it all to this order instead!
I also hate the design/look of the palit cards (not a big deal for most I can appreciate though).
Also, 2 year vs 5 year warranty.
Also Amazon have the best returns/warranty and customer service bar none so I'm sticking with it.
Jordan5963
9 Jul 16#133
Not a good deal if you have to wait so long. Cancelled mine and got a Palit Gamerock 1070 for a similar price. It's the same performance as this when both are overclocked anyway, all the Pascal chips get between 2GHz and 2.1GHz. The cooler on the Gamerock version is excellent - fans are extremely quiet and temperatures don't go above 70c running a stress test.

Had a similar response off two amazon advisors - one that had uncertainty with when they would be stocked and another saying im still on time. Just will have to wait and see. Expecting the 1080ti to be out by the time this card arrives (!)

They will come in stock at some point, I don't know why he'd say it they might never!
Having spoken to a couple of people at Amazon, it sounded like I'm not anywhere near the front of the queue, so I cancelled my order and bought a Palit Super Jetstream 1070 from Ebuyer which should be arriving today!
It was a bit more, but was in stock and actually matches the aesthetics of the rest of my PC. Plus, my old card won't output 1440p, so my new monitor isn't being put to it's full use and it's bugging me...!

I think contacting Amazon is sort of pointless. None of the advisors will have a clue. They will one day arrive at a warehouse somewhere and be despatched. When that will be, who knows. It could be later today, it could be tomorrow, it could in a weeks time, it could be in a months time.
I had a 1080 G1 on order with no date given and that all of a sudden one day it got dispatched without warning a few weeks after I ordered it ( had to cancel it as I didn't want it in the end and never actually thought it would be sent for months!)

Ordered on the 22nd of June and had a delivery estimate of 12-17th July, although it updated last night and now shows the 16th as a dispatch date.
I contacted Amazon this morning, one advisor said they might never come in stock (left him neutral feedback) another advisor said that the dispatch date of July 16th is correct, although if the item is in before hand, they will dispatch sooner.

The 1060 is due to be released in the not too distant future which is supposedly more powerful than the 980. The other alternitive is to wait for the 1080Ti to be released, there's a slim possibility they'll start reducing the 1080/70 prices on the Ti's release

I ordered on 30th June. Still showing 13th to 18th delivery. My issue is it's over my £300 graphics card budget - and I'm encouraging Nvidia and their high pricing shenanigans!
All fueled by my lack of faith in AMD of course.

For new orders, no, this card is one of the most factory OC'd cards out there, but at a fraction of the price (comparable to the Asus Strix, selling for £490-£525 elsewhere). Add the fact the RX 480 wasn't the '1070' killer which some hyped it up to be, so there was a surge of sales. 1-2months sounds accurate to me.
There are some cards available, ebuyer at £432 or overclockers at £450.
Zaxxan
7 Jul 16#109
As long as they honour the price I will wait as the GBP to USD exchange rate will probably get worse over the next 2 months pushing the price up.

7 Jul 16#108
1 to 2 months??! They're joking right?
jono8
7 Jul 16#107
I doubt it. They have obviously had lots of orders so I imagine the first allocation of stock will be going to those that got in there first (probably to those who saw it before it got picked up on hotukdeals) and all those are reserved so the 1-2 month wait is for those that order now.
I think a lot including myself still have next week as the delivery window.
mr1r15h
7 Jul 16#106
It wouldn't surprise me if it has something to do with the fall in value of the pound. They've probably had to cancel their order and then reorder at a new cost to accommodate the difference in value...
Or someone has realised they cocked up by putting up at a too low price and Amazon are trying to back-track

I don't know if anyone is still checking this post, but I had ordered on the 29th June and had an estimated delivery of 13th-18th July as others did in here. Then yesterday is changed to "Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date."
I contacted Amazon, and I was told there was a problem with the stock, so they don't currently have any estimated delivery date... Supposedly Amazon will email me within the next day or two to give me an update of the estimated delivery date. I hope it's not too delayed, as I have a new 1440p monitor coming today, and I don't think my old 560 ti gpu will handle it very well!!

I ordered ages ago but had to cancel since it won't fit in my M/ITX build,
I'm hoping it may turn up earlier too. Many retailers seem to have stock of this model now so surely wont be long. When I ordered the 1080 G1 ( which I sent back) it surprised me and got sent before I was even given a date! It caught me by surprise and I had to refuse delivery as I only ordered it as a back up plan whilst I waited for things to come in to stock and decided what to get!
I have found Amazon hugely set quite a pessimistic estimate (I guess so as not to get peoples hopes up). A lot of things I have ordered with an estimated time have come earlier than expected. I am sure people have had the opposite experience though.

Amazon list this as "1607MHz Base/1797MHz Boost Clock" but use the product code ZT-P10700B-10P which according to the Zotac site has "Base: 1632 MHz / Boost:1835 MHz."
The clock speeds listed by Amazon suggest this is actually the ZT-P10700C-10P which has slower memory as well.

The general issue is the scaling is often not enough to compare against spending the same money on 1 card.
russtyk
1 Jul 16#61
Absolute rubbish. Most games scale with more than one GPU. You might not get a profile or support on day one, but then again smart buyers will wait for a couple of patches anyway. There are some well documented cases where there is is 0 scaling and your mileage may vary as depending on the GPU load scaling can be anywhere between 0-100%, but multi-gpu is very viable.
Liam2349

Barely any games work with more than one GPU. Sure, it may work in GTA V, but in almost all cases a second GPU is nothing but an expensive paperweight.

The Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 will fit without problems in your case. It's only a few quid more with cashback included compared to this Zotac deal. Ignore the cold votes.
1080 averages at least 80 fps if not more for almost every game at 1080p fully maxed, in a lot of cases much more. Would not worry about DX12 etc, this will batter it on pure brute power.

It's up the developers to add support and from what we hear it's not an easy task.

The GTX 1080 would be the one to go for if you got the budget but an overclocked 1070 is just as good value for money and performance. In the same boat myself with a 3440x1440 monitor. Looking at some benchmarks on YouTube the 1070 is not bad getting an average of 42 fps in the likes of division with ultra settings. Kind of leaning towards 1070 atm especially with that deal on the ZOTAC version someone posted on here. I reckon if you play the latest games on high at the resolution you should see 60 fps on average.

Do you understand the problem here?
"When a game had no crossfire support"
That's the problem.
Most games *DON'T* have crossfire support!
You are risking performance for the ability to trade blows with the 1070!
Even when games *HAD* crossfire support, the dual 480s were 50% better 50% worse.
BF4? 1070 wins. COD? 480x2 wins.
Fallout 4? 480 can't do crosffire.
Do you want to risk it? I can't recommend crossfire to anyone.
That's not even considering frame latency and average time. This is just FPS.
If you register within a short period of time of buying the card (28 days maybe) - it gets extended by another three years
EDIT -
"

As these are the high tier cards, I think it is just to be expected they wont drop until something properly competes with them. Not even the RX480 SLI'd is topping them massively, so they will be at these prices for a while to come.

They don't need to drop. The 970 is around £200 and even though it's 2 years old it still beats AMDs latest. Blame AMD for sitting on their ****, promising the earth and not delivering. When the 1060 is released they'll be in trouble. No doubt Vega will be a similar disappointment

If you get NUS discount this is just under £370, that's a very good price considering how quick this GPU is, especially this specific model.

Nate1492
29 Jun 16#2
With the 480 out and not looking very good, 2x 480 in crossfire doesn't match the 1070. If you are considering 300-400 on a GFX card, pick up the 1070.
Here we go again. Crossfire doesn't scale 100% and doesn't provide consistent performance across all games. So even if a RX480 was as good as a GTX980, two of them wouldn't provide consistent performance in all games.
Jeliman13 to Nate1492
29 Jun 16#5
Nate, sure... but how many games will get CF support? I was thinking about SF480's, but multi GPU is not on the same level as a single card...
480 release with performance around GTX970 wont change a thing...
charleaward81 to Nate1492
29 Jun 161#7
Is that because you couldn't quite work out yourself when games had no crossfire scaling obviously GTX 1070 was faster, infact when games do not support SLi and crossfire at all, multi GPU setups actually cause huge performance loss against identical single card GPU systems.
But if you look at relevant performance across game where crossfire gives an advantage is over 10% faster upwards of near 25% in some instances.
In all games where developers have added full multi gpu support into their games the RX 480 Crossfire is clear winner against GTX 1070 with a couple of trades against the GTX 1080.
My guessing as driver matures and fixes added for existing games this will only increase
1440p GTA V
RX 480 Crossfire 89.3FPS
GTX 1080 91.3FPS
Those are 2 reference RX 480s with limited OC headroom.
You cant fault 2 cards that at moment would costs £219.99 each, so £440 for crossfire against cheapest GTX 1080 at £580
Obviously you would be unwise to get 2 reference, better waiting to AIB come out for better cards, cooler and faster out of the box clocks

Looks okay to me, just slightly askew - not had it for too long and this is the first high end card I've had so don't want to tempt fate!
On serious note if you have screwed it on properly shouldnt need it.
Overwatch Game Play with Zotac GTX1070

I know ultra doesn't make that much difference, but it's nice to not play around with settings. I know it sounds a bit stupid. haha
My current card is a 7970 and it's lasted great. I'm selling it for 100 to a mate, so it's only cost me 200 over 4 years.
edit; derp. thought you were replying to me. haha
The 1060 runs the witcher 3 on ultra with an average frame rate of 45! The standard 1070 runs around 65 fps.
But.... having second thoughts that it's overkill for 1080p gaming. Thinking of cancelling and buying a 1060/RX480 instead. Could save £150 but don't want to be turning settings down in 12 months or so because games need more power. But everyone says you can't future-proof your PC!
Thoughts? Help!
can get 2050ghz overclock and hovers between 62-65c with the fans inaudible in the quite case with the top on! so very limited air flow.
Boosted to 2000ghz out the box so could not really push it much further but to say im happy with it would be an understatement for the price paid.
It is a ridiculously sized thing but runs very cool. Even in the crazy 30 degree heat today it was only hovering around 60 degrees on full load.
I also have the Zotac GTX 1080 on order.
Hope it ships today.
Update: Just to clarify, the outer box was ok it was the item inside that looked like it had been run over by a tractor.
Very odd.
It takes longer to arrive because i'm from Spain.
Could it be because I live in Malta? I usually buy many items from the UK and do not have any problems with shipping times.
Must have found a few boxes down the back of the sofa so maybe your dates will change again.
Also I suspect the 14th is deliberate given the chaos and mayhem that is Amazon Prime day.
Bummer.
Ordered morning of the 26th and says dispatching on the 14th.
Hopefully some people get a dispatch notification today
Anyway, had a rift sitting here for about three weeks now so I can't wait.
I also hate the design/look of the palit cards (not a big deal for most I can appreciate though).
Also, 2 year vs 5 year warranty.
Also Amazon have the best returns/warranty and customer service bar none so I'm sticking with it.
It now says 30th July - 23rd August. Yippee.
Probably would have cancelled by now although I got it for £360 with discounts, nearly £100 cheaper than Overclockers, so it's just a case of me being patient now.
I had a 1080 G1 on order with no date given and that all of a sudden one day it got dispatched without warning a few weeks after I ordered it ( had to cancel it as I didn't want it in the end and never actually thought it would be sent for months!)
I contacted Amazon this morning, one advisor said they might never come in stock (left him neutral feedback) another advisor said that the dispatch date of July 16th is correct, although if the item is in before hand, they will dispatch sooner.
All fueled by my lack of faith in AMD of course.
There are some cards available, ebuyer at £432 or overclockers at £450.
I think a lot including myself still have next week as the delivery window.
Or someone has realised they cocked up by putting up at a too low price and Amazon are trying to back-track
July 26th to August 15th
Not sure it's worth the wait :disappointed:
Even after contacting them, they said no date is available yet.
It's fine though, as long as it doesn't get cancelled that is...
I contacted Amazon, and I was told there was a problem with the stock, so they don't currently have any estimated delivery date... Supposedly Amazon will email me within the next day or two to give me an update of the estimated delivery date. I hope it's not too delayed, as I have a new 1440p monitor coming today, and I don't think my old 560 ti gpu will handle it very well!!
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GRCYKZK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I got this one for 360, what do people think of it? very similar clock speeds. Still no time of delivery on this one
Ordered mine on the 29th of June
I have found Amazon hugely set quite a pessimistic estimate (I guess so as not to get peoples hopes up). A lot of things I have ordered with an estimated time have come earlier than expected. I am sure people have had the opposite experience though.
Still, clock speed in offer description refers to different model with 2 fans (ZT-P10700C-10P).

I ended up ordering this one but looks out of stock now:
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/palit-geforce-gtx-1070-gamerock-premier-edition-8192mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-03h-pl.html
Has anyone got in touch with Amazon about a more up to date, delivery date?
The clock speeds listed by Amazon suggest this is actually the ZT-P10700C-10P which has slower memory as well.
Anyone have any idea which one is likely to actually turn up if I order it?

Card Length 325mm x 148mm
I am in a similar situation with my Bitfenix Prodigy case. Max graphics card length for that is 320mm.
Considering this one which looks solid and is 28.6 cm.

But, you know...the price.
The card length in OPs post states the length is 325mm. You'd need to magic up 2.5cm somehow. I'm still looking for a second source for the length of card - most suppliers state 'TBD/TBC'.

It's still early days.

Also DX12 AAA titles aren't in steady supply and won't be for a number of years. But which time they'll be a new mid-tier GPU cheaper and faster than the RX480.
Yay/Nay?
I'm going to assume that Prime doesn't allow me to jump the queue, so I'll also keep up to date as and when I get a delivery estimate.
Then when i was on the phone adding gift card credit to the order i was informed they would be sent out by the 11th according to their information.
I would take these dates with a pinch of salt as there are a few going around
"When a game had no crossfire support"
That's the problem.
Most games *DON'T* have crossfire support!
You are risking performance for the ability to trade blows with the 1070!
Even when games *HAD* crossfire support, the dual 480s were 50% better 50% worse.
BF4? 1070 wins. COD? 480x2 wins.
Fallout 4? 480 can't do crosffire.
Do you want to risk it? I can't recommend crossfire to anyone.
That's not even considering frame latency and average time. This is just FPS.
Don't go crossfire, it's a terrible choice.

Either way, it'll have red
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Zotac cards come with a 5 year warranty, too.
i'm pretty sure that's exactly what he's saying.....
And just to add to the comment above, from experience, crossfire is the biggest waste of time
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/RX_480_CrossFire/
480 release with performance around GTX970 wont change a thing...
