Hello,

Cheapest I've seen and also comes with International Stock rom installed by the seller for you lazy peeps.

Spec:

- Snapdragon 650
- 3GB Ram
- 32GB Rom
- FHD
- Finger Print
- 4000 mAh Battery (last me 2 days with MIUI 7 Int global stable rom)
- SD Card (have put in a 128gb card), 32GB Internal is plenty for now
- Dual Sim (if no SD card is used)
- Just awsomeness

I bought this at 229.99 when it came out and never regretted it - Kill all UK/Europe released phones for the money.

Note this is the 3gb/32 GB Rom Version (with int stock rom installed) - Gold color only however the other colors are not much more $1+

gap30 #19 - CyanogenMod 13.0 for Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 [SnapDragon]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-xiaomi-redmi-note-3-t3350656

Enterpart #70 - 2gb/16gb Version for $149.99 (£103.33) - china rom but easy to install global rom manually (Note: MIUI is quite ram hungry but should be ok) - extra 1gb ram and 16gb rom for not much more £24.18 plus Int rom

Hi all,

For those that want it even cheaper 3gb/32gb (China Rom only) - Limited stock $179.99 (£124.00):

Wow, quite a lot of ignorance with Xiaomi on here. If you don't know about them then that is because you are ignorant and is no way a reflection on them. Don't glory in your own stupidity. It makes you look, well, stupid. I have flashed MIUI roms since 2010, along with CM and PA it was a go to rom back in the day. It's a good job that China only makes mobile phones for Xiaomi, Huawei, Meizu etc. That way you can stay safe by buying Apple phones made in the USA and Samsung phones make in South Korea - that is right isn't it?

I personally welcome our Chinese overlords and I will quite happily point them to this thread when they, inevitably, assume control of the world. Then you can enjoy the "re-education".

Is the best seller Dreami on Aliexpress for the Redmi Note 3? Is there anyway I can get rid of the warranty as it being adding by default and is not valid in the UK? Additionally, should I get them to install MIUI8 or stick with MIUI7 as MIUI8 is too new and may contain bugs. Thank you,

I have now recieved my official unlock. I have gone to the unlock app & it is getting to 50% then saying can't verify the unlock? I have seen this is a common but I'm not impressed as spending a lot of time and going round in circles it seems with this process. Any suggestions, some say it is an error with the app or my device being registered with mi account?

The main reason why I unlocked my bootloader was to flash miui.eu. It's more focused on other languages with all the Chinese apps removed and performance tweaks applied.

Unlocking the bootloader will have no effect on the working of apps, but as I understand rooting the phone might..

I'm with HSBC and my banking app works as good as it does on my ipad..

Dont know about sky go though..

Thank you for this workaround to get the global ROM running. Is there any benefit to getting the official xiaomi unlock. I know it can take upto 10days. I was just thinking would it give the OTA updates to get MIUI 8 when released. I was also concerned that some apps (sky go & certain bank apps) may not work with this modification (unlocking bootloader).
keenan316
2 Jul 16 2 #585
It does seem like migrating between china and global roms might not be possible..

But there is a way!

Believe me, it far less complicated than it sounds..

If your bootloader is locked but you want to install an official ROM

1) Download the universal ADB driver installer from here...

http://adbdriver.com/upload/adbdriver.zip

Unzip it and run it.

2) Connect your phone to your PC while it's turned on and install the drivers.

3) After it's done installing drivers, download and install the latest Chinese Mi PC Suite from here...

http://zhushou.xiaomi.com/

If the suite opens automatically after installation, close it.

4) Download the official ROM you want to flash from here...

http://en.miui.com/download.html

It can be any official ROM (China/Global; Stable/Dev).

5) Put your phone into recovery mode by holding Power and Vol+ until the black splash screen comes up (the screen shows a device with a cable).

6) Launch the Mi PC Suite. If a window in the PC Suite pops up, close it.

7) Now hold SHIFT and click on the icon that says 刷机 (screenshot). http://i.imgur.com/dmIgZqK.jpg

:sunglasses: Browse for the ROM zip you downloaded. After some loading, a button will appear, click it.

9) Wait until the installation process finishes. Done.

Mine took about 9 days from ordering (4th) to 'depart from the warehouse' (13th) so a little longer than the 24 hours quoted; though I have an inkling things are shipped to Aliexpress then transferred to Singapore Airport in larger containers (so it may well have dispatched quickly). From there it was despatched on the 15th, arrived at Heathrow on the 19th. Then UK customs will take 18 minutes - 6 weeks.

Bah. Mine is stuck at Heathrow Distribution Centre according to RM tracking (not updated since the 19th). Not tracking on Parcelforce so I'm guessing it hasn't been handed over to them and is jammed in customs whilst they figure out how much tax to slap on for their timely service. I go away tomorrow so I'm hoping it magically arrives today or tomorrow morning and that it's just RM tracking being iffy.

No, I would manage though I am reluctant to mess around with it until I find out what the supplier is likely to do. Update, seller is stalling, telling me the phone was brand new and tested before sent. The odds of receiving a faulty unit must be minimal though it's precisely why I tend not to buy without local warranty.

Thanks to all the info here! I ended up getting this one: Original Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime Snapdragon 650 3G/32G 16ML 1080P 5.5" Screen Hexa-Core Dual-Sim Card Slot Smart Phone

$4 off coupon no longer works (all gone apparently), but I did find another one for $3 off here Can confirm it works.

All in all cost me £118.99, which is... just mad for the spec!

Ideally would have gone for the grey, but they were all c. £138 so went with the silver/white.

Look forward to getting it now, can't wait! :innocent:

I've got those. I bought them at the same time as the Piston 3s and Dual Hybrids as they were all cheap and I wanted to see what the Xiaomi range of earphones were like. The Colorfuls are actually pretty balanced sounding though the sounds tend to blend into each other. Not dissimilar to the £15 Sonys you might find in PC World. Very different sound to the Dual Hybrids (which emphasise trebles/mids but aren't the most natural sounding overall) and the Piston 3 (less treble/mids, more bass) but I don't think they're bad for budget earphones. I actually prefer using them at night over the other Xiaomi's which have more punch but can make certain types of music too piercing sounding (if that makes sense) if you're not in the mood.

No kevlar braided cables on the Colorfuls but the Xiaomi earphones are generally surprisingly well made. Much better build quality than the numerous Sennheiser earphones I've owned which have all eventually malfunctioned due to the internal wiring and connectors disintegrating over time. Those rubber cables and connectors they use really aren't durable.

Those Piston 3s are so fake. You can't even buy genuine ones locally in China for that amount.

If you want genuine Piston 3s, Dual Hybrids etc, go to an established retailer in China - Gearbest, Banggood etc, not a dodgy Ebay store.

New update released (17/06/2016)

Changelog :

- Fix Led Blink
- Kernel is now built from source (doesn't use Xiaomi prebuilt)
- Fix flac audio issues
- Wifi module sycned with latest qcom code
- CPU cores getting offline issue fixed
- Attempt to fix audio distortion on some headphones.
- Attempt to fix sudden modem signal drops
- Sync with latest CM

To-do :
* FM has to be fixed ( Not fixed in this build because that's all the time i have had this week )

To be honest i have been using this rom for a while now and it is fine as a daily driver, now the small bugs have been ironed out it is more or less perfect

I recommend it personally, no problems for me

Make sure you disable driver signing (reboot) and install the driver again manually as outlined in the steps. Then it should go fine provided the phone goes in to EDL mode as normal (there's a helper tool on XDA if it doesn't behave - "EDL" is needed to override the bootloader and it's locked state). The MiFlash tool is also picky in that it has to be pointed to /images (which you'll find after extracting the downloaded tar.gz ROM file using WinRAR) and "wipe all" should be selected.

I don't understand why the flash process looks so... unpolished for users switching region. Xiaomi need to sort out an OTA region switch or something for locked devices (unless I missed something). For this reason it's probably worth requesting an unlock code; worth having root for various things like AdAway.

No idea about the fingerprint issue. Will have a look into it. I've yet to get my RNP3 but I'm ready to sort it out once it hits my doorstep o.o

People have got the best price by using a credit card that doesn't charge fees for paying in foreign currency, and let your credit card do the conversion rather than aliexpress.

From my experience of using the OnePlus One I would advise caution on rushing into installing system updates. Im sure there are experts here that might have a different view or know better but this has been my experience. Don't rush into any updates without doing research into what other users are experiencing. There were lots of problems with updates for the OPO, not for every user but for a fair few like battery drain after a few hours. My philosophy was mine works and that is good enough for me for the sake of an extra bell and/or whistle.

Mine hasn't arrived yet... :-)

As far as I can tell from the specs, the only difference between the special edition and the standard edition (3GB/32GB version) is the LTE bands:
Special Edition:
FDD-LTE: B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28
TD-LTE: B40

Standard Edition:
FDD-LTE: B1/B3/B5/B7/B8
TD-LTE: B38/B39/B40/B41(2555-2655MHz)

Everything else remains the same:
Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 CPU
Adreno 510 GPU
3GB Dual Channel LPDDR3 Memory
32GB Storage eMMC 5.0
4000mAh / 4050mAh(typ) Battery
0.3s Fingerprint unlock

Might be useful if eventually possible but there's peops over at MIUI trying to 'unlock band 20' (800MHz) on Xiaomi devices.

More info here: http://en.miui.com/thread-242834-1-1.html
And here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-note-pro/development/how-to-unlock-lte-frequency-bands-mi-t3215880
(Not model specific to the RN3P, I do not advise you experiment)

Supposedly the Qualcomm chipset is capable of working on band 20, it's just locked since Xiaomi have to pay licensing for the 800MHz band.

Interesting that someone reports 4g on o2.

Are you able to determine which band it is running on - o2 may have started using their 2g (1800) or 3g (2100) bands as 4g like vodafone. Maybe the app LTE discovery will be able to tell.

This is my tracking - ordered on the 6th - hoping for later today or tomorrow.

There is a new build due in the next day or so that will fix the issues, even so it is still my daily driver with no problems
schmoog
15 Jun 16 1 #399
Nope but it's an early build so it's worthwhile keeping track of the XDA thread and updating every few days. From what I gather most of core features work, unless it was patched already you'll need Kernel Aduitor to mount the last two Snapdragon cores on boot.

If it's anything like the last CM13 alpha I tested, you get Marshmallow early with a few hiccups; some things are fixed quickly, other oddities stick around for a week or two but it's generally fun being part of the XDA community and helping test out the builds. Once in a while there's a nightly that causes some mild havoc so check the XDA thread before flashing.

Generally, battery life is excellent on Cyanogenmod provided there's no resource hog bugs in any given build. If you install Xposed + Amplify + Wakelock Detector + Prevent Running, you can get excellent battery life (i.e. <1% battery drain overnight) from capping wakelocks and halting unnecessary background autostarts. Though Greenify is often easier. A good custom kernel can help if there's RN3P ones about.

Cyanogenmod is pretty awesome in that it's highly-configurable down to sliding your finger on the status-bar to adjust brightness to PrivacyGuard letting you manage autostarts/app permissions. Also, the CM themes are nice.

Mine's jammed in the same place, though given how iffy the tracking sounds I suspect it's probably further along. I placed mine on the 6th. So probably a few days up to a week?

TBH, I'd heard of aliexpress before but got the heebies after looking at the reviews.

Just to add...

This thing is a beast!
Went from an S7 edge exynos to this as I wanted the cash made from it for another venture (VR).

I was expecting the games I play on my phone to be drastically slower. They`re bloody faster! I`m gob smacked!

The phone has it`s weaknesses but power is definitely nor one of them.

Enjoy!

How would you compare the camera against you're S7. I know it's not going to be anywhere near as good but the camera is the only thing holding me back. It's either this or an LG G4. The excellent battery of this phone is tempting me!

Ordered on the 2nd from TopMall China using Ali-express standard delivery.

Received it yesterday.

I ordered Gray with global rom installed and it came with screen protector and clear case. It was left in my wheelie bin so didn't need to sign.

The UI is going to take some getting used to but I've put Nova launcher on.

The finger print scanner is lightning quick. Much quicker than 'Tap-on' from the LG G3 that im coming from.

Ill have a proper play tonight.

£143.80 for the phone including DHL shipping + £17 charge from DHL at Hong Kong (still unsure what this was for) so £160 all in. Included was a clear silicone case, screen protector, sim adapter. I just messaged the seller and asked for global rom. That was it. I know I've probably paid over the odds but I'd originally ordered a Redmi 3 off Ebay for same price and got stung waiting 2 weeks for a refund. If your prepared to wait I'd ditch the DHL and just go standard.

Just tried Ali's chat service and they 'says' they can't take the One-year replacement warranty off! But any buyer would have to contact the seller to have it removed?

Sounds like some sort of con? As it's only valid in Spain and the US it's less than useless everywhere else, but no doubt the sellers are getting a kick back from the insurance company?

Just sent a message to the seller, I'll post what they reply. . .

It just getting silly now! This is the reply from the seller; 'hank jia: hi,sorry we cannot remove it either, sorry '.
phil001

After using it for a day, my thought are that the software is very much a mix of apple ios and Google Android.
I'd say it takes the best of both, the simplicity of ios, and the open platform Android offers.
I'm using google now launcher, as I'm a creature of comfort, and it's what I used on my previous phone.

I can definitely notice the difference compared to my smart ultra 6 which I rate extremely.

Fingerprint lock works amazingly well.
Battery so far has been very good,
I've not sampled the camera, but I've no regrets so far.

I'll NEVER pay Apple /Samsung etc prices when phones like this are available, EVERYTHING is on par,if not better, except the company logo on the back, which is unknown to alot here in the UK.

Never thought I'd get on with a 5.5" screen after using my galaxy s4 for afew years, but once I got to grips with it, in my opinion it is the sweet spot for screen sizes. Can't see myself going back to a smaller handset, and can't see myself getting anything bigger.

Still tempted, but not sure I want a phone this size. I have a Z1C which is perfect for me, just tried a few similar sized handsets out and not sure I like the feel. The specs of this look great for the money, but I suspect I'll end up with a Z5C.

phil001

Hoseman
10 Jun 16 #331
Question on the screen as I have ordered this phone. I have an OPO and I didnt buy a screen protector for it and didnt need to as it was so tough/good. I think I read somewhere that the screen for this Xiaomi needs one. What's the consensus?
phil001 to Hoseman
10 Jun 16 1 #332
Sure i read that it does not have Gorilla Glass, but i don't know if they use an equivalent?
Usually with all phones I fit a screen protector, if it doesn't impair the view or touch sensitivity i would always have one, much prefer to keep devices in as perfect a condition as possible for resale purposes.

10 Jun 16 #334
From what I can see on Google Image Search the antutu scores for the Xiaomi Note 3 Pro Snapdragon are about double those of the S5. They both have different strengths so it's worth looking at the spec sheets and reviews. The camera on the S5 is miles ahead, the battery on the Xiaomi is massive, pears and apples but ultimately the price-tag of the Note 3 Pro SD is infinitely better value.

Just heard from my son (whose working in HG), Xiaomi are going to be releasing a new Note model in the next few weeks with a similar spec to this but with either a 5.7 or 6 inch screen and maybe the Snapdragon 820 cpu. I bought this phone around a month or so ago from another seller on AliExpress for around £170 and even then it was an absolute bargain. It lasts a minimum of two days with my usage and even had it last 3 at a push and for the price easily destroys anything around the same over here.

I switched from a Samsung S5 and tbh it eats it for breakfast, even had a friend on an S7 praise the phone and question his new upgrade as he said the quality wasn't all that different. An absolute bargain for the price.

it will work on Voda 4g - but their primary 4g band 800mhz is not supported. Cities and events will fare better as they appear to be using 1800,2100 and 2600 as 4g spectrum in various places. However I imagine 4g coverage will be extremely spotty at best.

Thank you. Is 2.6Ghz alone enough? There are posts suggesting that 2.6Ghz has been deployed in London - so is it worth the punt if you'll rarely travel outside London (and for those times - 3G is fine)? Are there any up-to-date lists of where 2.6Ghz is widely available?
Mark7777
8 Jun 16 #287
800mhz is the band o2 and Vodafone use for their general geographic coverage, 2600mhz is shorter range used to assist in urban areas and increase bandwidth.

Three use 800mhz for their super voice coverage - lower bandwidth than their 1800mhz coverage.

EE are the only ones that aren't really using their 800mhz yet - tho they may be testing it in some areas as part of their VoLTE offering.

The posts here suggest that the phone will either 3G only on Vodafone. Why is that? According to http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/mobile-phone/how-tell-whether-phone-is-supported-by-your-network-3597426/ you only need one band for 4G to work ("To use Vodafone's 4G LTE network your phone will need to support at least one of the two.") , and according to the listing it has the 1800Mhz and 2600Mhz - of which Vodafone uses one. What did I miss?

20% vat plus whatever handling charge the company delivering it adds. Usually around £10

But most of the China dealers mark the package as 'mp3 player' with a cost of $30. So unless you're really unlucky and customs open it to check you're okay...

Just ordered the 3Gb/32Gb version from Dreami. Asked for a sealed box in the comments section, got a message from the seller almost as soon as I'd placed my order explaining that there would be no Play Store etc. and asking me if that was ok. Excellent communication so far.

Incidentally, paid in dollars using Halifax card, works out at just over £125. Quidco is currently tracking at the dollar value (£180!)

6 Jun 16 #236
Thats true, thankfully I don't use Apple, some serious security scandals on iOS over the years, but yes I totally agree, information is power, and they use absolutely every minute detail so earn money off marketing. They all do it, yes

However, the point I was making earlier is the NSA in the US, or MI6 in the UK, is much, much, much more trustworthy, in my humble opinion, than Xiaomi, or the Chinese MSS, or Ministry for State Security. This country is not our friend, and I'm just gonna wait til my upgrade is due in 6 months ish, assess the Chinese phone situation then, and then make a choice ^^ hopefully by then there will be a similarly priced phone, like this, with maybe full 4G, and perhaps a UK/EU based vendor  that would be perfect

While I am not ruling out the possibility of what you say against chinese earlier today phones being true, you cant single them out.
Then you also have to believe that Apple and Samsung have your fingerprint. They passed it on to the UK/US government for all we know.
Google has your precise location, and location history of your movements.
Microsoft windows 10 also spys on you. Why do you think they are still giving everyone windows 10 for FREE. That is unheard of in the past.
Even if MI do spy on you, not saying that they do, its hardly anything new.
Just some food for thought

Were you bullied as a kid or something? Can you not make a valid point without attempting to mock, belittle or insult the other person, or without using some clear condescending tone? It's rather off-putting, I hope you don't do this on dates

I understand you can flash the ROM, I'm not sure how any of that works personally and Im sure alot of people, if they had a Chinese ROM installed in a Xiaomi phone in their hand, wouldn't know the first thing to do with it to fix it. I've never heard of anyone having to buy a smartphone and then configure the ROM so that your info doesn't get leaked

Adware is very different to spyware, you are mixing them unfairly. Cookies on websites to track your purchases, Google using your location, is very different to spyware sending your details, statements, codes etc... abroad.

I hope it worked for you  I don't wish spyware on anyone but the fact is the pre installed Xiaomi Chinese ROM has been proven to sometimes contain harmful malware

When they become more official in the UK and actually have outlets I consider safe, I'll probably buy one of these cheap, wonderspec Chinese phones, just to try it, but to say there are no risks right now is simply not true.

Oh and if you respond, stupid, liar, racist, sociopath, xenophobic, 'falsely educated', those insults are all taken, so you'll have to think up something....fresh

That is part of my fear, I dont believe its irrational, China and monitoring others have a long history, besides, we have a mutual trade interest, we are not friends, in fact we are enemies with their allies (eg North Korea)

It is indeed a contradiction, I would hazard a guess that its more down to poor quality phone infrastructure, or perhaps cutting costs on parts to keep it cheap, that made them miss out certain bands, not a deliberate choice I dont think

BTW a quick google will show hundreds upon thousands of clear cut examples of the Chinese being caught spying/installing spyware, e.g in Indian, Chinese-bought radio comms equipment, and the US company G Data claimed to find internal hidden spyware in Xiaomi and Huawei Chinese phones in a 2015 study

Xiaomi claimed they were counterfeits, which doesn't sound likely as they were bought through consumer websites

Hmmm... But if they want all the UK people to buy their phones, why do they skip entire UK networks?! A contradiction. Right?
schmoog
6 Jun 16 #191
I did the same but felt like an inconvenience for requesting they forego their quality control and ROM flash process. Think I just prefer getting it sealed and wasting a few hours doing it myself. That way I know the ROM is stock and not injected with sponsored apps. The downside is I said no to QC so if it arrives with problems it's gonna be a pain in the butt to ship it back.

Still, amazing specs and price. Can't wait to pop in my MicroSD and make use of it for music and generally just doing stuff without lag. Don't care about the camera quality, not really bothered with 800MHz missing - my current phone doesn't have it and loses signal in some areas out and about but it doesn't bother me, less time getting telemarketers and anxiety from people contacting me o___o.

I purchased 2 phones from different sellers. (Not from this AliExpress one!)

The 1st phone was a "US version", it came in a sealed box with a black US charger and USB cable inside. And additionally the seller put a white US->UK adapter to this parcel in a separate plastic bag.

The 2nd phone is an "Certified to use in Hong Kong" version. It came in a sealed box with a black UK charger and USB cable inside. Later I found that the UK charger can be disassembled to 2 parts: US charger  and an UK adapter

The difference is: Xiaomi put the UK adapter inside the 2nd phone box (Hong Kong version). Their black adapter looks better and joins the US charger tightly. The white adapter (added by the seller (not Xiaomi) to the parcel) looks cheap and is noticeably bigger.
DatAlbino
6 Jun 16 1 #189
I'm just gonna come out and say that I under estimated this phone and should have looked better into the specs and what they meant, so apologies for that having said that I still think that it has its flaws and for me, until they do breach the UK market, or until they are vetted, sponsored/supported by a mainstream seller here, something like that, I just don't feel safe with them. I get they're big, in China at least, I get that the spec-price ratio is great, but someone sending an illegal phone disguised as a gift or a cheap mp3, to me, with Chinese components, ROM, and the promise of amazing features for such little money? It sounds too good to be true

I still think the 4g is an issue, I use 4g all the time and altho I'm with EE Im looking to go on o2 refresh after this contract, and if I do I cant buy one. I find that ridiculous for such a big company as Xiaomi to skip entire UK networks, or for me to have to pay an extra 10, 20 quid a month for some data bundle when I could get a perfectly good deal here in the UK

Tigerrrrr
6 Jun 16 #187
How much does it cost to add a second SIM to this phone? Is it better to pay +350 GBP or more for some "kosher" phone (Samsung, Sony, LG)?

There are "SIM only" deals, "Data only" SIM cards, monthly contracts. What is the problem?

Isn't a correct comparison. You do not need to buy a second phone (second car in your "comparison") for 4G. You just need a second SIM or switch the provider. And you only need it in some cases:

1) If you really need 4G right now.
AND
2) If this phone does not support the 4G frequency of your current provider (O2).

How can it be compared to buying a second car with all those road tax, MOT, insurance etc. things?!

I think that officially on 32gb cards are supported, but if I can get my card working I don't see any problem with a 128gb card.

But Xiaomi are not some piddling small Chinese mobile manufacturer! This is what people can't get theior heads around. Even though AFAIK they only officially sell in China and India at the moment they are STILL one of the World's biggest mobile manufacturers. And if you were in any way worried about 'someone' seeing your stuff then you wouldn't buy ANY mobile device (cough NSA. MI6 etc etc etc).

Having to switch provider mid contract and still pay the o2 fee even tho you can't use 4g is ridiculous

You wouldn't buy a new car that wasn't allowed on motorways and then pay to have a 2nd car only for motorways would you?
Agreed its only on a couple networks, but o2 and vodafone are not small networks, this is thousands and thousands of people here

But the only reason they are big is cos they operate in the 2 biggest countries in the world, with nearly 3 billion people between them. Of course they're huge compared to us, Europe has 700 million, China and India have nearly 3 billion, they're catering for a huge population and exploiting super cheap labour, rlly poor working conditions and dubious software, with few Android updates

Because the Chinese are a communist one party dictatorship with mass state ownership and anything that isn't owned is heavily regulated by the state. I would bet my non existent house that they are monitoring people left, right and centre

First off you cannot blame SONY for being hacked, that is completely different thank hacking people, THEY got hacked, not did the hacking

Who hacked SONY? The North Koreans. Who are NK's biggest allies, who called NK they're 'big friends' and marked an entire year (2009) as the year of North Korean friendship? Who supplies military and technological goods to them and has for years and years?

China.

Very much this. Xiaomi were in the FT the other day since they're buying 1500 microsoft patents. In the article it said they sold 70m phones last year which makes them quite a bit smaller than samsung or apple, but still bigger than LG or Sony in phones.

I understand your point. You do not trust Chinese companies. I do not trust Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Sony, Chinese companies and all other companies from all the countries. And I do not like the fact they have access to our personal data. By, unfortunately, we can not avoid it. Just can not. Period.

And, of course, I do not understand why is it better when a South Korean company (LG, Samsung) or Japanese one (Sony) has my data than when a Chinese company (Xiaomi) has them.

And I do remember, for example, SONY database was hacked and their customers' data were stolen, including credit card details.

4g: There are no problems with 4G. There is a small inconvenience for some people only. First of all it is easy to jump from O2 to EE (or some of their piggyback minions), for example. But if you have a 1 year contract with O2, just add a second 4G SIM to Redmi Note 3 Pro! It is a dual SIM phone.

customs: Ok, if you are unlucky you'll pay a 20% tax + maybe 9 GBP handling fee. It is 35 GBP in total for this 128 GBP phone, making it a 160 GBP phone. It is not 500 GBP anyway. Right? By the way, I paid 190 GBP for this phone and still happy.

If you look up you'll see that I have already said that, I have studied the matter in quite a bit of depth

Also, no, they don't, as far as phones go, LG produce in S Korea, Samsung also in S Korea, HTC in Taiwan, Motorola (apparently, didn't know this) in the USA

So, no, they don't. That's why this is so cheap, cos it IS made in china.

I'm a big android fan, I'll never get an apple, overpriced, poor specs and monopolised app market and iOS

I'm glad you like it  I just don't wanna risk it. Is it tempting? Hell yeah I'm due an upgrade in a couple months and those specs, for the most part, look good, and great in relation to price.

But I just CAN'T get my head around giving Xiaomi, who I hadn't even heard of until the Mii Band a few months ago, all my details, my address, access to my cloud storage, my memory, my bank details, etc. Me no likey

Who said it is a top phone? All the articles and reviews I have read about Redmi Note 3 was like: "The best value for money", "Wow! These features for this low price!!!" etc.

Personally I do not need NFC, for example. So, this phone is a top one for my needs

Also when I purchased Redmi Note 3 Pro I did not see OTG in its specs. Chinese vendors just did not include it to the specs list. But this phone does support OTG. It was a surprise for me  Now I like this phone even more.

The LG G3 with 3GB RAM/32GB ROM was the European version, wasn't it? UK supplied LG G3s had 2GB RAM (and 16GB internal mermory). Certainly the 2GB RAM UK version has had its critics with regard to lag etc.....

Nitpicking aside, there is nothing commercially available from the mainstream UK suppliers that comes anywhere near the spec of this phone for the money asked. It also feels very premium with its metal build (my son has an LG G4 and agreed his wife's Redmi Note 3 Pro feels so much more expensive in the hand. Plus it's faster at most everyday tasks).

i personally don't care about Antutu scores, or benchmark scores, as I think they are irrelevant compared to specs, and spec wise my 2 year old phone competes, better display, same RAM, same size, for Xiaomi's top phone that simply shouldn't happen.

Not to mention problems with 4g, customs, etc... I'll stop going on for the sake of sounding like a broken record, its just not my cup of tea at all. I'll buy cheap headphones or batteries or plastic rubbish off the Chinese; I will not trust them with my smartphone and my personal data

As someone who prefers a smaller phone and find 5.5"+ too big. I have to admit the Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime is still very tempting. Coming from a Z3 Compact(4.6" 720p, SD801, 2GB) the Xiaomi offers me a nice upgrade in specs for very little. I don't require a flagship phone for my usage(browsing reddit & internet, youtube, clash royale etc) but the SD650 performs solid, even outperforming the SD808 which is used in the Nexus 5X that I'm considering. GPU wise although you can't see it on the chart it will be just below the SD652(the difference is SD652 is an Octa-core with extra 2 A72's over the SD650). I don't need or use NFC. I don't really care if the quality of my dirty kebab pictures aren't as sharp as they used to be on my sony camera. With all that said, buying a Xiaomi does come with it's drawbacks but if I do end up with it and it works fine for two years. Absolute bargain.

When I say european flagships I mean the phones you typically buy here, Samsung, LG, Apple, I understand they are mainly manufactured in SE Asia, particularly S Korea, but I just dont trust Chinese companies with something as important as my smartphone, with all my private data, all my finance details and banking app

if they were meant to be bought by us UK consumers they would work on all 4G lines, have reliable import sources and there would be no customs charges, and yet the opposite is true. Maybe in the future if they make a rlly, rlly good phone, for cheap, with more reliable sources, then I would consider it. Im not forcing it on anyone, just my opinion, hope anyone who has one has a good experience

I got my LG G3 on contract, when it first came out, for £16.99 a month, 50 quid up front, 500 mins unl texts unl data from EE

I am not rich by far, in fact a very poor student, I get the price tag on this is appealing but it does not beat the LG G3 hands down

Display, Xiaomi 1920x1080, LG G3, 2560x1440
RAM, both 3GB
Size, both 5.5
LG removable cover, Xiaomi not (big nono for me I like my replaceable batteries and easily fixed phones)

The fact that I can even compete at all with this, using a 2 year old LG, is proof alone that this is not a top phone. Its a mid range phone, with the complications of bad UK phone service, possible customs issues (I had a phone I sent back to China DESTROYED by the Royal Mail) and dodgy chinese craftmanship

I would personally avoid, if you like it fine, but for me? Hell no, I'll stick with European/Korean flagships

Antutu 800/801 scores max 45-50k
Aututu 650 score max 77-80k (this beats the previous gen 8 series processor and is slightly or on par with the 810)

Please compare apple to apple note the 1st digit in the number is the series ... the 8 series is now at 820 which scores 133k+ on antutu - 8 series processors are high end meaning its usually phone on flagships phone costing £500+ (apart from the Mi 5 which you can get i thing around £250).

This phone is £124-£128 and has the best spec for the money. you should buy one and try it out. Look at the main Xiaomi wibsite ofr phone stats then a third part or even better load of youtube test can confirm performance.

Exactly, how can a 1 year old LG G4, with just a 3000mA battery, outstrip the life of the latest Xiaomi with 4000mA?

The same reason my chinese 10000mA portable battery charges less then my 5000mA Anker- poor quality components

Get a European or well known brand, Chinese imports are good for low price and quantity, not generally quality

5 Jun 16 2 #135
I agree in principle with your comments

I have got an LG G4 which i stopped using last week (which in my opinion blew away the G3) and was the best phone of 2015 for me

I regularly got 4-5 hrs SOT using CM13

I am hoping to push around 9-10 SOT with this phone and that was the attraction personally

I currently have 82% battery left with 2hrs 9m SOT

This phone runs exactly the same (bar the obvious 4g, nfc etc) but gives me 9-10 hrs SOT

Edit: my son has a 2 yr old Redmi note 2 still going strong (without a case or screen protector) so build quality has proven its self for me

I believe at launch it was about 450 quid, being an LG flagship and all, but now you can get at around this price. I just used that phone cos its still got high specs in relation to this phone yet this claims to be one of Xiaomi's latest

Well its certainly marketed as a top phone, despite clearly being a mid range device
I see the attraction, cheap, decent spec, but its kinda a falsehood imo and I wouldn't trust Chinese craftmanship over European or Korean sellers

Though fingers-crossed the only thing I'll need to do is choose between MUIU or Cyanogen.

The Snapdragon 650 is more recent but that doesn't make it better

650: 1.8Ghz max, with Adreno 510
801: 2.5Ghz max, with Adreno 330

Difference between Adreno 330 and 510 is minimal, one is hexacore and one is quadcore yet they both feature in flagship phones

The real difference is between Snapdragon outputs and efficiency, and the 801 wins hands down on that due to the extra 0.7Ghz of power, even tho it is less efficient now it still has a higher output which means 800 series Snapdragons sport a faster data modem than 650s

P.S just to add, that link you posted shows that all Qualcomm did is rename 620 a 650 and reduce the max output, while making it slightly more efficient, which is pointless if its less powerful
compo31
5 Jun 16 1 #126
I think maybe there is a bit of confusion, I think the snapdragon 650 was released around the end of 2015 and is close to being on par with the 800 series, maybe not the 820 but definetly the other revisions and is more power efficient.

This phone has obvious negatives as well as positives

Pros:
Its cheap
It has 2 quad core processors, on par with the best phones
Good camera at 16MP
Large battery
Takes microSD and dual SIM

Cons:
It runs a seriously outdated Snapdragon, comparison, the LG G3 was released in mid 2014, runs 801, this is one of their latest phones and runs 650, like what. That's terrible
The resolution is standard at 1080p, most top phones these days run at well over that
Only 4-6 hours talk time off a big battery? Seems inefficient, again a smaller, 3000mA LG G3 runs for 19-21 hours
Back cover not detachable
Questions about UK 4G connectivity

Imo not a bad phone, pretty good, but definitely not the top class device people are calling it here. These things are cheap for a reason, they use very outdated RAM and imo are marketed at top phones, on par with the latest Samsungs, Apples, LGs, when they are simply not.

The reason I used the LG G3 in comparison is to show that a phone released 2 years ago hands down beats this in terms of specs, pretty much across the whole board, resolution, RAM, memory, screen size, weight.

I would pay a little more and get a phone from the UK or EU, that can definitely handle UK 4G networks, and has better specs. This is just a rebranded Chinese import

Aliexpress is just like ebay, there are bound to be fake sellers but using their paypal (alipay), the sellers will never get your details and they won't be able to get any money until you've received your item and confirmed that you received it from them in order for them to get any money. Aliexpress is more interested in defending the buyer than the seller so you're pretty much safe with your money.

Its fast, i have the 16gb/ 2gb ram pro version which i bought for my daughter to replace her moto G. I scored 78000 Antutu score out of the box with the "lesser" version. That was within 500 of my friends I-phone 6 and 10000 more than my S5 plus.

Its as fast and slick as a S6 all for just over £100

I added a 64gb card to the SD slot for £10. Also bought a tempered glass screen protector and case from Ali Express to go with it. The phone came in 8 days, the case 3 weeks.

Screen is responsive and vibrant OS is slick and fast. Camera quality is ok/good but lacks software options for serious picture takers. Its quality is on par with my S5 without the software options. So it isnt "bad" just not for a picture taker specialist.

Seriously looking at getting a Mi5 Pro now. on paper it looks like it should beat a S7, as does this Note 3 pro look like it beats the S6 on paper. Well for once the stats are right. These chinese phones really do compete - I took a chance with this the Note 3 pro and I'm glad I did.

Should have mentioned the battery is a god send to keep the daughter happy, with the heavy usage she does it lasts more than a full day now. I left it charged for a week and it only lost 30% while I fiddled about with it during the week while I waited for the case to show.

Get an Aqua credit card to avoid Sterling fees (can use abroad with no fees too) - This is what i use and also easy to get as its aimed for poor credit rating customers - Plus card give cash back too

Again true - but always easy to flash etc.

If anyone want the phone sealed (with original china rom) - you can request this during payment in the text box (say please keep item sealed - will be for a gift etc).

Usually a ~3% non-sterling fee with most banks. I thought that was most likely better than PayPal? I just hear PP tend to go by their own 'rates'.

Also just occurred to me that 'International Stock rom' means it's basically opened, flashed and shrink-wrapped. Always a nice effort on the reseller's part but wary about how "stock" the ROM is.. might reflash myself.

5 Jun 16 #85
Again, speaking from the point of owning an RN2 and being on 3 I've found in comparison to my new UK phone that the signal on the RN2 was far inferior on 3 compared to the new phone. I'm putting it down to the lack of availability of the 800 band. I've been walking over the hills in my local NT property and the old phone had no signal at all yet the new one has strong 4G signal there.

That said I participated actively in the xiaomi.eu forums and updated with their ROMs which seem to be very good. I can't speak for how well supported the RN3 is as I know they had to do a lot of work to be able to install the ROMs due to Xiaomi locking the bootloader and other issues regarding root. Well worth a read on there if you're wanting more info on that front.

I didnt buy an original battery. LG wanted 25 notes for one so I passed on that.

Got this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00M6Y405O/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1465129119&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Mondpalast+dual+docking+g3

from Amazon. It was 15.99 from a different seller. Batteries are 3k not 2.8k as described.

Its a great device and the batteries are lasting me 24 hours easy.

Probably be OK but Chrome can use a ridonculous amount of memory on certain webpages. Also, for whatever reason Android has become a plump memory fairy since 4.x - likely the material UI glitter, UI rendering at higher resolutions and as with everything, more features. Still, 2GB should be OK as long as the app footprint is kept low.

I've gone for the 3GB myself but then again I tend to lightly multitask and inquisitively load up games here and there.
keenan316
5 Jun 16 1 #71
There's been a lot of debate on here in regards to the differences between the 2gb vs 3gb models. The short answer is, the difference is unnoticeable! Apart from quicker boot, everything else is practically identical!

The best way to see it...

If you want to spend £130, get the 3GB model!
If you want an absolute bargain for £100, get the 2GB model!

5 Jun 16 #54
also. I used to have the MI3 and I got this after cracking the screen on that (couldn't wait for a replacement screen so thought I'd upgrade). At first it was pretty buggy with the stock rom which came bootlocked and wouldn't update (seems to be an issue with 3rd party sellers installing their own Roms), but now I've updated to the latest stable rom from xiaomi.eu it's fantastic. Fingerprint reader is a bit hit and miss but other than that I can't knock it.
chrissatchell
5 Jun 16 #53
firmware has been massively improved on the camera since December, the stock locked ROM mine came with sucked for camera quality, the latest (and last miui 7, 8 comes out soon) is miles better
chrissatchell
5 Jun 16 #52
i recently sorted this today through an awfully difficult process. it involved putting the phone in 'download mode' flashing a fast boot ROM using miflash, then unlocking the bootloader with the official unlock, then I could flash the official global from xiaomi.eu. I think at some point I even had to flash the dev ROM too. it's a pain in the area but doable, there's an Indian guy on YouTube that did two separate videos that explain exactly how to do it, you'll know its his video as the description says about getting past 50% by turning off all the lock screen/fingerprint stuff (doesnt work) but then links you to another video that accompanies that one to do before it.

best of luck, I managed it after tearing my hair out but it runs 10x better than the ROM that came on it (which wouldn't update)

I'm a regular buyer on Ali Express - never had custom charged to Manchester - they always mark up as gift etc, some may send to an EU depot first then send to you (Gearbest do this alot, most sellers work in a simular way). Ali express have a 60 guarantee - plus this can be extended if there is any disputes etc. Also you protected if you pay by credit card if things go lost.

LG G2 is quite dated now in terms of spec but still a good phone. This has alot more speed Antutu scores around 77-80k and games run super sooth. the best thing is the GPS - it connects nearly instantly

the Snapdragon 615 is ok but similar to the snapdragon 800. This is a big leap in performance and yet has SD slot for sim or Dual Sim etc. the 4000 mAh battery helps alot, after a day i have aroun 63% remaining so should easily do most for 2 days use.

The UI is goo, no bloat (no china stuff on too). All simple and easy to use. Sim i put the Global Int rom on i have had 4 updates. The MIUI community is big and constanly being improved. for the money its bank for buck.

I move from my OnePlus One to this. Love the One plus and use this as a backup now (64gb Version). I've added in a 128GB SD card in mine and use it mainly to watch catch-up series or films. Sound quality is good, and use this phone with the Xiaome Pistons 3 and the Dual drivers ones
