I haven't tried as I already own it. But I've just had my Xbox on and there is a tile on the right side of the dashboard offering 'Play Halo 5 for free' (or along those lines).

I am a new Xbox one owner and have a 12 month live subscription, I am able to download the free monthly Xbox 360 games onto the Xbox one even if I don't own them? Every time I try it shows as free with gold but when I click through it shows a price. Heat added for the post

It took 4 hours to download via a wired 76mbps fibre connection, just to give people a rough idea.
Personally I never buy new releases anymore and generally I'm a few years behind (just finished Assassin's Creed 2 ha!), so playing this for free for a week is great for anyone like me!

Same here but before i got fttp this would of took 4 days straight to download.

Depends if you have fibre, personally it will take me less than an hour to install using my wired connection.

People that ain't got halo 5 by now probably have no intention of buying it, this is a bad move by Microsoft as its just giving the not fussed players a free campaign and a week to realize how under par the multiplayer has become.

It got rated pretty well on release. But it's pretty lackluster campaign and it's bare-bones features hurt it a lot. (Though saying that, it's definitely one of the best playing multiplayer in a long time)

Whilst i agree people are dumb for not trying this becuase of the file size of the game. I do not agree 500gb is uselss. I have had no need to buy an external hard drive and i have around 50 digital games. I don't see how having all games available to play at once is a necessity. I just keep a couple of regular multiplayer games downloaded and then just download/play campaign games as i when i get to them.

As a pretty big Halo fan gotta be honest here. The campaign was absolute cack! Seriously who was the genius that write the story for the campaign. You defeat Warden Eternal once, ok that was irritating ESPECIALLY on legendary, fine. But then you fight him again but in a more condensed location, err ok? Then you have to face another 3 clones of him!! Seriously come on theres a difference between putting a challenge for the player and just making it flat out irritating for one to proceed. Getting killed in one hit lol.
Multiplayer is great though, finally starting to get used to the speed. Its insanely fast especially compared to previous Halo games, still hate that awful radar though. Its stupidly inconsistent and many times someone can be right beside or behind you and won't even alert you till the last minute, Apart from all that its a great Halo.

It seems a little crazy that people prepared to take a walk down to Game or enter their credit card details to buy a game online but haven't got the common sense to leave this one downloading while they are asleep. It's a free game for a week so why not? I'm presuming most people do actually already have an external hard drive. Pretty useless stuck at 500gb especially the way Games With Gold are coming thick and fast.

I have loved the Halo series from day 1, and have played FPS from the days of PC Doom etc. I still rate that first time on Halo 1 campaign as a pinnacle console moment. I am one of those 'odd' creatures that has no interest in MP whatsoever. I only recently obtained an Xbox One, having owned the previous MS consoles from day one, and am really enjoying the hardware.
I was less enamored with Halo 4 to be honest, and was so, so disappointed with the opening level of Halo 5. I would encourage any genuine Halo fan to persevere. It really gets back to that 'old' Halo feel soon after that first level. I am just past the superb Swords of Sanghelios level and (imo) rate some of Halo 5 up there with the best of the series.
Cool story bro
