Seems a good price :)

Windows 10 combines the Windows you already know and adds great improvements you’ll love. Technologies like InstantGo1 let you boot up and resume quickly. And Windows 10 has more built-in security features than ever to help protect against malicious software.

Not the case actually. The Windows 10 licensing is locked to your motherboard, so unless that dies you can reinstall Windows 10 as many times as you like. You can even reinstall it without the key too, since the hardware ID of the board is sent to Microsoft's activation service.

Probably not, unlicenced, contravening Microsoft's terms and conditions rather than illegal. Probably a good chance the key will be blacklisted at some point so something to consider.

Hmmm, undecided on this one on whether its legit or not. Looks legit from what I'm reading.

https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/opiumpulses.com?stars=&page=1

Decent reviews (though, quite a lot of them are by people with 1 posts) but there are also comments about codes already been used and codes didn't work. Website also looks like something from the early 90s. They say they are related to FlyingBundle.com which was definitely legit. Don't like website sites that don't show proper contact details though. There's no address mentioned, telephone number or email (you have to use their form).

Anyone on here every used them?

That's where you're wrong. Using the download tool, you can create a bootable USB stick or download a ISO DVD image ready to be burnt.

From there, you can directly install Windows 10, as long as you've got a Windows 10 key!

http://s33.postimg.org/gn6hs5bsv/windows_10.png

I've used them in the past for Windows 7 and 8. I've bought three keys, and they're still going strong. If they were going to be blacklisted, they haven't yet.

Upgrade from a legal copy of 7 or 8 is free for another month and a half. Windows 10 is around £50 to £60 to buy legally. edit: £99 for home or £189 for pro if you buy from MS...
FinderOfDeals to Jezza67

It's free until the end of July for the upgrade. If for some reason after that time you have to reinstall Windows, you'll drop back to whatever version of Windows you had before. You won't be able to upgrade to Windows 10 (Pro) unless you have a Windows 10 (Pro) key.

Come on guys, you know this is shady.

If you depend on your computer / photos / music / documents, pony up for Windows or go Linux. £10 Windows is fishy!

Well yes you're right, you can indeed use the Win10 link to install Windows 10 if you have a product key or upgrade rights but you can also use it to install Win10 if you had a Windows 7 or 8 licence as well. We're both right. There, now both of us can feel superior

As I understood if you reinstalled Win 10 you select you don't have a license key and it picks up the BIOS registration from the previous install. It's worked for me already as I upgraded then did a clean install.

no nothing, my old pc had a genuine windows 7, then I upgraded to windows 8 with genuine licence which I then upgraded to 10, I then put the said drive into my new pc and clicked activate and it did. This wasnt in one day, I was using 8 and 10 for a while before moving my drive over.
ollie87
13 Jun 16 #81
With a retail license you usually get a 'free pass' to activate a couple more times. I've managed it once with a 8.1 key before I had to call MS and explain the motherboard had died.

You won't get that with these keys as they are OEM and are designed for system builders.

I am on 8.1 pro and am very happy with it, several friends have upgraded to 10 and had issues so I am not keen to make the jump.

However I keeping in mind the impending deadline and the fact that maybe one day I want to make the jump I was wondering what would happen if I upgraded to 10 just to get my key and then went back to 8.1.
Would I be able to re-install 10 at a later date?

As I said, it's personal choice.

I've personally bounced up every version of Windows since Windows 3 (MSDos 3.3-6.22 before that). Bounce back down for a while from ME, but apart from that, I've stayed with the newer versions. I'm not a MS fan boy, just that it works for what I need it for, and don't have a problem with change. I also use OSX, Linux, AmigaOS 4.1, etc, on different computers.

This is how I did it. I love the new windows 10 interface and this is cheap as chips for the upgrade. I think the free updates are time limited though so I would have a look at the MS website. I think it is the end of the year but, I might be wrong.

Why wouldn't you make the jump. make an image of your current setup then just try it and if you don't like it then restore the backup of your previous system.

Windows 10 is the best OS I've used from MS. I stuck with 7 Ultimate since the days it was released and avoided the pile of slurry that was 8 <-- I can't beleive anyone would use that OS and think it was good??? Bizarre.

I predict that Microsoft will extend the free period as time runs out or renew the program shortly after. They have clearly decided that getting people on to windows 10 is a company goal and that strategy has unlikely changed. I think they are bluffing to get people to move faster in bigger numbers but that they will open the door again either with very low cost option or a continuation of this program. It isn't about making money from windows 10 sale. Google is the most capitalised company on the planet and it doesn't even charge the consumer a penny for its searching services. Microsoft wants to make money via a very similar model. I am not advocating or critiquing their approach, I am merely saying why I think windows 10 for free will stay or another equivalent offering.

Nope. Just upgrade to Windows 10 on your current HDD. That will secure your W10 licence. Then just stick in an SSD and do a clean install of W10.

If you use the newer 1511 November update of Windows 10 you don't need to even upgrade. Just pop in the SSD in and fresh install Win10. When it prompts for a key skip and don't enter one. Once at Windows it will either activate via key in your bios or if you have one of those stickers with a key go to settings and enter it there.
wenttoabetterplace
13 Jun 16 #107
You will need to download the relevant media (probably Windows 8.1 Home). Microsoft provides the ISO files via their website, which are then loaded onto USB and installed.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows8

Pretty sure that 8.1 has the licence key stored in the BIOS (auto activated, no need for you to put in a licence key).

Seriously though, I can see no real reason why you'd stick with 8.1 when you have such an obvious opportunity to secure a W10 licence.

wenttoabetterplace

It is done automatically. Microsoft essentially sticks a licence key for your hardware on their servers. So whenever you do a clean install, there is no need to re-insert licence keys.

All you need to do to get your W10 licence is click the 'Upgrade Now' button on the following website. That is all you need to do.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

genuine for sure but be aware that many seller on ebay do sell genuine retail keys for as low as £7 but the problem is that they might sell it over and over again. Will validate and if you call Microsoft the will tell you that it is a genuine key but beaware, if more than one is using the same key at the same time it will get blocked after sometime until the stupid Microsoft system will detect the problem. Most of these sellers would usually use new screen names and for a reason if you can imagine why.
wenttoabetterplace
13 Jun 16 #115
Which is why you should buy a W8.1 Pro or lower licence, and then allow Microsoft to upgrade you to W10. You will then have a unique W10 licence...which is almost certainly never going to get banned (because why would Microsoft issue two identical licences!)

Also, in my experience, Microsoft is pretty good at detecting multiple installs of the same key (on retail/single licence versions). Obviously it's more difficult for them to deal with OEM licence key fraud....because those OEM keys could be eligible for 10,000 plus installs depending on the company that bought the licence!

Start menu breaks, not compatible with many machines. I work in IT refurbishment, it's a bit of a nightmare OS at times. I do many installs a week, always have issues. Just installed a Lenovo E320 laptop it didn't even see the wifi card, that comes with the machine, the Lenovo has a whitelist so I can use other wifi cards but the Lenovo complains at bootup. On Windows 7 everything works properly. Installed a Compaq for a customer the other day who'd upgraded Windows 8 to 10, as the wifi didn't work, tried everything and I mean everything to fix it, reinstalled Windows 10 and the Start Menu broke once we'd copied his data back. Build 10586.318 is the latest build and still has issues.

Went to a LAN party on the weekend, mates Windows 10 has Classic Shell installed as he's fed up of fixing the Start Menu. Absolutely incredible they've not fixed this issue which has plagued Windows 10 since the beginning. Customers hate Windows 10, they say "I've heard it has bugs" or "I hate it, please put it back on Windows 7".

I've never seen a Windows OS as bad as this before, well not since Vista, not ready for prime time. Should be called Windows 10 Beta. Windows 10 is a sack of crap!

no, I got a genuine retail cheap key which I installed on 4 different pc's and just for testing how it goes, still working well after 2 months on all the pc's and getting updates on all of them. I even made Microsoft aware of it as a test and what they say is that as soon I validate a second pc, the other one should immediately deactivated and so on. Cold - its a volume license that expires within hours. If you buy and use straight away you are fine, but if you delay or need to reinstall you are screwed.

13 Jun 16 1 #124
Personally I'd go down the free upgrade route too. I've upgraded many PCs in this way, each has the same license key, so clearly the only way MS validates is by some other hardware ID. I know they validate because I did a test install from an image using one of the keys, it refused to activate, yet the hardware was identical, as soon as I done the reserve license for the machine, the same DVD and key worked.

As for Windows 10, I've installed it on many machines without a single issue, in a lot of cases I think the problems are people not understanding how to use it, rather than bugs. I've had the start menu issue a couple of times, but that seems to have improved.

I've just been dealing with a number of people on the T100 Chi thread, who have had a myriad of problems with Windows 10....

Why?

Because they tried to do clean installs without first deleting ALL partitions (despite being advised to do so on a number of occasions).

As is so often the case, there's no accounting for human behaviour . But if people just stick to the script, W10 will install correctly, and will run v.well. & with the Redstone update, it will no doubt work even better (and continue to improve going into the future)

Here's where the problem lies. Many people have retail Windows 7/8 licences which can be installed on any machine they like as long as it's only one at a time. Once they are 'upgraded' to Windows 10, the licence is locked to that machine. The machine (motherboard) dies, you lose Windows. Neat trick by MS to get everyone onto a licencing structure that ensures continued revenue with 99% of those people being unaware that it's happened. Expect many annoyed people over the next few years as computers die and Windows has to be bought again, their old Windows 7/8 licence having been revoked due to the free upgrade.

I would have thought most people would be buying a new computer with Windows 10 pre-installed, apart from a hard core element who build their own, I don't imagine Microsoft is going to lose much sleep over these people having to buy again, that's assuming that Windows 10 doesn't become a free upgrade forever, which I suspect is quite likely.

You are half right, it is legal to re-sell OEM licenses (although it is still open for debate) but it is still not legal to re-sell them if they are in use elsewhere. This could be why for some people it works and others it doesn't or they get blacklisted.

It these are MSDN keys (it's possible) then they are most definitely not legal and this is essentially using a pirate version..

13 Jun 16 #156
FWIW, Microsoft manually activated my Win10 after I explained I upgraded my motherboard and processor. I did this through the built in support system - one of their support team did some funky command line stuff to activate, and now the new hardware ID is associated with that license so I can reinstall as normal from now on if needed.

Edit- the original key was a Win8.1 key from MSDNAA/Dreamspark a few years ago.
GotBass

Software developers might care about their work being used for free I suppose and other legitimate resellers of Windows software might care and you really would expect Microsoft to care.

As to whether Microsoft bother to investigate might be down to how many people complain that this seller is in breach of the conditions MS lays out for their software.

But going back to what you said, I suspect a fair amount of people who want a Windows licence don't actually care if it's sold like this and probably still wouldn't care if MS shot a puppy for ever time a dodgy OEM licence got activated (this is known to happen by the way)

It's quite true there have been no test cases, but also, that doesn't mean MS won't at some point decide to start getting tough, it's unlikely but who knows. I'm sure it's in Microsoft's interest to get the OS spread as fast as possible, whether legitimate or not, though it does seem a bit unfair if money is being made, it's not going to those who wrote the software.

It's interesting because that document doesn't really consider the usual OEM case, where one key is used to perform multiple activations. In this case in order for MS to remain legal within the EU, which might be moot in a week or so, for us at least, they can block all but one of the machines activated with this key.

Given we don't know the source of the license keys, we don't even know if they're real OEM licenses or whether this guy has some way of generating valid license numbers, it's hard to know what might happen down the line, but since it's not costing much, if I needed them, I'd probably take a risk myself.

You cant mix n match retail keys with oem dvds vise versa! if you have an oem dvd , and you have a retail key, you cant activate the key on it.

if you check a windows ID of an oem and retail, they are different! it is possible you are mix n matching

Seriously. Microsoft have to ram free Windows 10 upgrades down people's throats yet a dodgy key here for 10 quid goes red hot.

The Microsoft Win10 upgrade dialogs brag about 230 million having already upgraded. At say $50 each that cost Microsoft 11.5 billion dollars - Do you seriously think Microsoft did that because they no longer want to make money?

Windows 10 will be the most expensive version of Windows ever even if you get it for nothing.

Put your sticky keyboard away. There is no reason to show that you are somehow wrong in the head, but I won't hold it against you.

I am hardly going to be telling my end clients to log into a non legit windows environment to download my own paid for software.

You and a couple of other idiots on here are labouring under the false premise that these keys are illegal.....Of course they're legitimate!

Using an upper case "B'' in bold makes you look like an illiterate knob.

Oh, run away and take your head for a dump, you pompous windbag! If I want to type in BOLD, I'll do so.
