so after a week checking my local store .. there sat a shiny looking golden goose ..... 4tb cloud saying take me ..so i sacnned it and it said need to checkout at till... so of i went with my hart beating ..left wife and kids and ran ..said to the women on the till "can you scan this for me" Yes she said of couse luv ...£159 i neally broke down in tears ... took me about an hour to talk to the wife ....toys out of pram and now sulking ... So bought a lawnmower and pack of smarties for kids :disappointed::disappointed:

Yes, the case can be cracked open and the drive taken out. They are Western Digital Red NAS drives, the firmware is optimised for using in a NAS box but they can easily be used in a PC after formatting in the usual way.

can this drive be taken out and put in pc as a regular hard drive or is it encrypted ?

Well maybe because when there's such deal around 95% of the stock goes with them? What's the point in having a "sweet deal" coming when you know that because they WORK NIGHT shifts you won't get anything on the release day? It was not a branch specific deal but a pricing error! They'll tell you any old rubbish! Sometimes they can take days to fix a pricing error but fixed this one quite quickly. In an emergency they will issue messages to the stores. Errors can be fixed manually in the store during the day or by withdrawing items from sale. This one was fixed overnight, early on the 1st. I bought my stores only two at 00.07 on the 1st which I was confident would be before the till pricing download updates start. It took them about half an hour to find them though as they had only just come into the store. It's always touch and go after midnight though as the price updating starts. Not all tills are out of action at once though so you can always find one that works. Has it got the old prices or new though? :-)

Just went back into the Clifton Moor, york branch (where I snagged one yesterday).

Well I don't really care whose mistake it is, just got even angrier as I went to Altrincham extra and asked for it and the response struck me - "no mate, I know we've got none as I got the last one" .... didn't have time to go with the manager but speaking with cust service now. ridiculous.

Well when I went yesterday afternoon they'd had two delivered, the dude earlier in the thread got one and I got the other.... so unless they're getting them delivered mutliple times a day I think there may have been a mistake..

To get my contribution here.. Went to Salford extra yesterday to ask for it, the guy said, I quote, "we have them in delivery but I am not allowed to sell them until tomorrow". I went this morning 1 minute after the store opens, guess what - sorry, we have none here. I made the guy check the shelves, the stock and even the delivery. Apparently when Tesco makes a deal the only one to benefit are the store employees.... And I promise I going to make this public starting with their Facebook page.

Always get them to check what's in stock with the barcode. Some Tesco employees have the App on their phones. My store didn't have any at 6 pm but two were coming in at 10 pm on a delivery. Just picked them up. Went through the till at 00.06 and still £41. Probably caught them in time before the overnight download so they may have gone up by daytime on the 1st.

I was going to put a 3TB drive in them, but after searching online it appears the software is on the drive not on the device itself so I wasn't too careful about opening them up. They're not designed to be user upgradeable unlike the higher price versions. Now in the bin.

Tesco Dudley had a bigger version of this for £125, £41 version got sold out couple of hours ago apparently. Tesco's in the Cannock, Walsall, Wolverhampton (Willenhall) and Rugeley town areas had almost no HDDs to choose from and ultimately waste of time. And also Birmingham one, near the hospital....

I'd the same problem in Antrim. Guy went out and checked though and came back and said there was none but stock was showing 1. Drove home and called up again and asked girl to check out the back again, she sent another lad out and found 1.

Seems very common this. Takes ya to find someone whose willing to put the effort in to find them.

I tried the Warrington Extra store very early this morning, none on the shelf and no-one around in electrical to check the back. Just picked up the last one from the Widnes Extra store an hour ago. I went back to the Warrington Extra and asked them and they said no straight away, so I'm guessing quite a few people have been to ask!

No luck in all of the Poole and Bournemouth area stores

Ah, too far out for me. I've tried 4 different stores and wasted around 3 hours and a good amount of petrol looking for this and have had no luck.

Had something similar happen to me. The empty boxes were clearly on display so I took one to the desk and the guy flat out said they haven't got any without bothering to look at the back, even though I was at the store 2 hours earlier and the empty boxes were not on the shelf so they definitely had just come in. Seems suspect that they didn't remove the empty display boxes if they were out of stock.

Yeah, after using a proper NAS like Synology I wouldn't touch this with a bargepole - I just wanted the 4TB hard drive out of it! Now have 2 x 4TB drives to pop into my Synology NAS for the brilliant price of £82 - would have cost about £250 on Amazon just for the bare drives!

Thought I'd have a look in Corby Tesco. The Assistant said 'no, we only go up to 3TB, each store decides on which models to stock'. I politely insisted she go and check newly arrived stock and she found they did indeed have a couple, after a profuse apologies she ran them through the till and I walked out with them. As soon as I got home I cracked them open and extracted the hard drives to upgrade my Synology NAS :smiley:

They said no more in stock but might be lucky if you ask nicely...

If it's any help to anyone, out of the local stores to me i asked about them and two out of three stores have got Range Changes on their electrical departments so they say this stock is potentially old stock that was Reduced to Clear but then they've ranged it back in again, hence the ridiculous price. Also, chances are are that they are gonna still be on Deliveries that their nights team have yet to work. Thats how i got one this morning, they were ever so polite as to opening them up to check for me. :smiley:
