Which router (make & model) do you have my friend?
be_vigilant to candyman86

you can but remember the decryption of the VPN traffic at full speed will need a good CPU. most off the shelf routers will not be good enough for fibre speeds and would likely need open wrt on there.
I run pfsense on a Xeon dell t20 and it handles my speed no problems. I do not notice any slow down through the VPN. I do not use pia though, I used to but now run with air con.

BEWARE OF THIS PROVIDER!!! They change the terms and conditions of their service without warning!!!They stopped providing support to geo located services like BBC, without offering a refund. Fortunately they did this in Feb about a month before my subscription was about to expire. Like be_vigilant I am now with air vpn.
fish323
12 Jun 16#12
You are clearly misrepresenting this provider. They no longer offer support to geo located services like the BBC. They stopped access without warning and without offering a refund.
I have PIA and would say the price is tempting and i switched from strong vpn to PIA and wish i never as i find with PIA afew websites are blocked you cannot get netflix with this vpn provider and some other sites. Netflix have blocked alot of Vpn providers that use shared vpn ip address which PIA are on there block list. Next time soon as my yr is up im off from PIA for that reason they should also give a option for a dedicated ip address which PIA don,t and other Vpn providers are starting to do . But PIA for the price is good and there no log policy is good and that is what tempted me to them.

12 Jun 16#18
I dont think they stopped it -rather Netflix and the likes blocked their IP ranges from accessing geo located content
PIA are ok, reasonably cheap, but you may well find that speeds are a little slow, even when connecting to UK servers while you're located in the UK, and support can be somewhat slow, as well as sticking to predefined scripts, even when you tell them before they start you've been through all their steps yourself. Then again, that's not unusual these days when companies use lowest tender call centres rather than dedicated trained staff. I used them for a couple of years, but I now use AirVPN, who offer less servers in less countries, but faster through speeds, and better support. They are dearer than PIA, but you pay your money, you take your pick.

Look for various routers that you can install DD WRT firmware on. I had an old d link that was left by the previous tenant in our old flat, and you can do all sorts with it, including VPN.
It can be a bit overwhelming with ash the options though. Google it and you should have be able to find a list of compatible routers.
Regarding PIA, I'm in France and recently tried this. There is a seven day cancellation/refund option. I got an immediate refund after a day when it became clear that iPlayer wouldn't work at all. Spent so long trying different UK servers and not a single one worked.
Have to use Hola for now. Wouldn't put anything secure through it, but can usually find a working server within a few minutes and is fine for iPlayer.

It worked in general terms, but I think BBC have been playing whack-a-mole with the IP addresses of their London and Southampton servers.
The forums on there said it's trial and error to find an IP that isn't blocked.
At least people know it's not guaranteed to work with iPlayer all the time. However their customer service was great, and after a few hours trying different connections via Windows and Android and it not working they refunded immediately.

airvpn.org currently 40Euros a month. I buy the 3 monthly package currently 11 euros for3 months. I am using it on my phone now in Vietnam. If you use it on a PC be aware if you decide not to use it you will have to reset the adapter in internet settings. This takes about 10 seconds. They accept bit coins. I have tried about 4 different vpns and they are the only reliable one for the iPlayer. The set up can be more challenging but I know nothing about computers and I managed it. They have a dedicated forum and support. The support is not as good as PIA bit the ability to overcome geo locked content is rock solid. Bit coins accepted for the seriously paranoid. If you are after geo locked content you will not find better but if you are not willing to play with the settings and don't care about geolocked content you might be better with another provider. Once it is set up it works seamlessly.

You've got to be kidding? You do realise that Hola steals your bandwidth and sells it for use by other people? The whole thing is basically a giant botnet for hire and it's been used in the past for DDoS attacks. You have no control over use of your connection and IP by someone else who could be using it to do something very dodgy.
Been using PIA for years and have no issues or anything negative to say about the service. I mainly connect to the London or Southampton servers and pings are around 10-30ms and maxes out my 65mbps fiber line. Their support is great too.

Thanks Craig.

the t20 didn't come with dual NICs, odd for a server. I got a dual NICs Intel GB card from eBay for £8. I then run VMware os on the t20. I then run pfsense as a VM https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/PfSense_2_on_VMware_ESXi_5. 1 Ethernet cable runs from the BT fibre modem into port 0. A netgear nighthawk gig switch / WiFi AP is then plugged into physical nic 1.

Once you've done that does all traffic go through the VPN? I'm seeing people asking how to set Kodi up etc, if you set your laptop up with the App will Kodi traffic automatically go through the VPN? That's always the way assumed it worked.
I'm guessing the people asking about Kodi specifically are using amazon devices or something else where the underlying OS can't be set up to use the VPN so it has to be done in Kodi specifically?

don't have Kodi myself but if you connect to the vpn on a laptop anything that uses the internet will go through that vpn connection. I think there is an issue where you connect to the internet via a device that doesn't have the vpn, however don't quote me on this, I think that you can set up the router with DNS or similar not sure if the vpn providers have anything that you can add to the router, maybe someone else can help on that.

Hi,
Thanks for contacting us today. I'm sorry to hear your having issues with our service. If you are using our desktop application and having connectivity issues, I would recommend trying a different remote connection port in the settings of our app. Please refer to the following article which will guide you through changing connection ports which can help with a variety of issues, including connectivity, connection speed, and websites not loading.
If the issue persists, we will need to gather some more information from you. Please provide answers to the following questions so we can best troubleshoot your issue:
-What operating system and version of it are you using our VPN on?
-Are you connecting to the VPN using our VPN software, or did you use different set-up instructions?
-If you're using our VPN software can you confirm which version you're using. (To find out what version of the PIA client that you have installed, right click (click on Mac OSX) on the PIA icon in your system tray and choose Settings. Click on Advanced, and the client version will be displayed in the lower left hand corner)
-Do you have any firewall or anti-virus software enabled on your system? This can often cause issues with software and network connections.
-Are you connecting via Ethernet or Wifi?
-Do you receive any Errors or Alerts when trying to connect?
-Do you have any advanced features of our app enabled such as MACE or the killswitch?
-Are you using any password management software, such as Lastpass? If so, please ensure this is not interfering with the VPN connection.
-When the disconnections occur, do you have any active downloads? (e.g. Torrents)
