Great price, amazing. Honestly I've been a big iPhone user for the past 5 years but seeing all these upcoming Chinese brands manufacturing great products and now the smart ultra 7 at prices like this, I am finding it very hard to bring myself or even think of any reason to throw a bunch of money at Apple.
Yeah I've got the PDF manual and there's no fingerprint scanner

Unfortunately it doesn't have a fingerprint scanner. Not sure why they've given it a physical home button. The backlit capacitive buttons worked just fine.
I need a new phone. My SU6 has a broken earphone socket (my own fault) and the screen has gone weird. I think the heat from the sun has done something to it. There's loads of tiny lines around the edges of the screen.

What I've noticed with the Smart First 7 and Smart Prime 7 is they've kinda been downgrade devices in many areas. This phone isn't as such but I've read that the screen isn't IPS despite GSM Arena saying it is. I don't know about you lot but all the phones I've had that have had an air gap between the display and the digitiser have got dust trapped and annoyed me soooo much. I can't cope with that haha

1-2 weeks availability in store so is this effectively pre-orders? I was holding off getting a Moto G4 to look at this when it came out but to be honest I think I'll pay the extra for the G4 I'm just not feeling the ultra 7 (based on no evidence!)

I bought the standard g4 from eBay brand new for £135. I was also waiting for a smart ultra 7 having owned the 6. I am so glad I got the g4, it is just amazing value and you will probably get more reliable updates from Lenovo over Vodafone.

My smart ultra 6 did this too! Got so bad I had to replace it (with a s7 edge). I think its to do with heat as I mounted it next to a fan in my car quite regularly.

Mediatek junk in this one, likely won't run smoothly, there will be a lack of support, your device will be left vulnerable and you're supporting a company that breaks the law in many places and are illegally using code. Vodafone should be ashamed.

CBA to read reviews now, have they bothered improving the camera like they promised?
All it needed was a better camera, gyroscope and a less plasticky body, and it would have been the best bang for buck phone for 2nd year running.
On the plus side, maybe the SU6 will drop to sub £80.

It's worth noting that whilst the Ultra 6 has specs which put it above a Moto-G - the Moto-G is simply a smoother and all-around quicker phone to use (not much in it, but it is) - so don't read too much into specs.
I've had an Ultra6 for a while now and it's fine for the most part - but my next phone will be smaller because, frankly, 5.5" screens are just too big for convenience (a trend even in higher-end phones - they've gotten too-damned-big)
seaniboy to therealjohnpeat
28 Jun 16#34
I agree, much better with a small phone (iphone5/S) and a slim 7" tablet (Alcatel Pop 7S) that fits in your pocket. Using a 5.5"+ phablet in landscape mode gives you little area to hold it without disturbing the screen. No wonder Apple done the SecondEdition iphone5S.

It doesn't surprise me at all that the Moto G is smoother with lesser hardware. Moto do a fantastic job on making there OS bloat free and really optimize it well.

If I'm honest, it isn't a step up enough for me to bother changing from my SU6.
I've had no problems or slow-down in my phone so far, and for under £100 it has performed admirably (save for the rubbish camera, but I expect this from cheaper phones, and have a real camera anyway).
I also agree with other commentators, that 5.5" is a tad too big for one hand, and I'd be better served with 5" and a decent 7" or 8" tablet.

28 Jun 16#41
I have a SU6 and am really happy with it.
However I don't think these will sell as well as last year's variant.
Why? The low-budget, reasonably specced market is growing rapidly. Take the Honor 5C for example. It's only £15 more but has a better build quality and design, slightly faster processor (Kirin) and probably a better camera. Oh, and it'll be unlocked straight out of the box. Even if the P9 Lite comes down to £150 again that will also put the SU7 to shame.
With the current uncertainty of these being unlocked on the cheap (as they're now made by Alcatel instead of ZTE), it would be silly to get this over an Honor 5C.

From my experience with both Moto and Huawei, the Honor has better specs and will be faster on day 1. You go a few months down the line however, and the janky OS on the Huawei will continue to rear its ugly head, be annoying and slow down. The Moto on the other hand will keep performing exactly the same.
Not really the place but my Ultra6 DOES have slowdown - it can get really, really unresponsive sometimes and often feels 'sticky' but the solution is easy enough - turn it off and on again from time-to-time (it even has a restart option!!)
Plenty of Android apps just clog-up your device with junk ofc so it depends what you run (ANY Amazon app is a bad idea, Instagram seems prone to clutter too, Facebook is bloated **** etc. etc.)

Mine is under the glass too. It's strange. I was in Benidorm last week which is when I noticed it. The phone was hot so I do think it's to do with heat. I'm wondering if I can take it back to Vodafone? I'm not on Vodafone as I unlocked the phone straight away but I'm pretty sure that shouldn't actually matter although I know how pathetic Vodafone can be.

But EMUI is so pretty, though. I know I may be one of a select few who say this. Yes, the design language is clearly stolen/inspired from iOS. There are so many features found in EMUI that you can't find in stock Android, like the pro camera features and one handed modes.

I agree with you that some of the features/software on the Huawei are good. On the other hand, you always feel like those stutters and lags are a result of the strange things Huawei are doing in the background. The longer you use it, the worse it gets. A factory reset helps matters but who wants to do this every 6 months? Also forget any chance of a major OS update within a respectable timeframe.
Can't say I've noticed that much slowdown on my Honor 7 and have had it for 9 months or so.

It used to drive me crazy on the Huawei that it would stutter on one keypress, only to do the next few, really fast and smooth and then back to a stutter. The Mrs's Moto G on the other hand always was much more consistent.

Well the Vodafone website states it is indeed an IPS panel so that's good then. Still don't know what phone to buy. This requires a £10 top-up so it's effectively £145. Moto G is only £15 more and is being supported by Motorola for the next 3 years, but that has no NFC :disappointed:

No, the Xiaomi will not work properly on Vodafone 4G or O2 4G. It doesn't have the 800MHz band (Band 20). Unfortunately, no Xiaomi phone has Band 20 which is a pity because they produce good hardware. Some Chinese phones do have Band 20, like Umi, but always worth checking first.

What a pain. I had problems with Life Mobile data as well, narrowed it down to their end by testing on a different phone, but guess you've done that already if it's a new phone. The other gotcha is to check that the data connection is switched on under settings->data->Vodafone.

Another one who had issues with the Smart Ultra 6 developing lines around the sides of the screen also got them at the bottom which i think is why the home button stopped working, just in warranty so vodafone have taken it for repair, stopped working on holiday in mexico so think its definitely heat related.

It comes with or might not come with a fingerprint scanner and NFC which many chinese phones don't. Both front and back cameras have a flash.
