Top of the range Dashcam from Transcend. I've had one since it was released and it has captured umpteen funny incidents and some not so funny near misses.
Having seen a friend suffer the frustrations of a crash for cash scam, one of these would have saved him years of grief and additional expense.

thought you get two cameras one for the rear and one for the front, anyone know any cheap dual front and rear cameras?

You get 2 cameras in one. One pointing outward, one pointing inward. This is ideal for a cabbie.
The inward lens does 720p with night vision. The forward cam does 1080p with normal vision.
If by that you mean how long does the battery charge last, I think about 25-30mins. It is worth my mentioning that the supplied cable USB to mini-USB cable is quite chunky and the cigarette light adapter ridiculously large. I swapped it out for a spare, small skinner 5m cable I had lying about in the loft and a Griffin Dual Twin Port USB 12v for £1.65.
~edit~
Just seen your second post. If the 12v supply is cut (e.g. ignition turned off, as it does in my car) then the camera automatically powers off after 30seconds. I think that setting can be changed but don't know off the top of my head. If the cigarette lighter is permanently 12v then the camera will stay on until you unplug it.
And yes, if stolen and you haven't downloaded the video to your device (as I sometimes do) then yes, it is lost. Most thieves I would imagine would just steer clear of a camera with wi-fi written on it, just in case it is uploading somewhere. Mine has been in the windscreen for 6months and hasn't bee stolen yet. {Touches wood}.
That is one thing, I really wish they would make these slightly more discreet. The silver ring around the lens is totally unnecessary, though when an idiot cut me up and I pressed the emergency record button, he did start driving properly after that...

I mean do you have to manually switch on all the time and what if someone steals the device you would have no way of having the video right ?

A bit black tape disguises the silver ring

I have turned the screen overlay for this off as it also displayed speed....
Is this supposed to stay in the car or is it easily removable?
Wouldn't want the car broken into for the camera :disappointed:

Great camera for recording people using their phone while driving by pointing the second camera out the passenger side window.

Be aware this is the adhesive mount version not the suction cup one.

hehe, only on the track now. Roads I drive are too congested and in in poor shape, the sort of speeds that are appropriate to the conditions are almost always below the legal limit. Things really were a lot more fun 20years ago! That and I was probably considerably more stupid...
Good point. I bought the suction cup mount to use and to answer a previous question, it takes 2 hands but about 5 seconds to remove/attach, leaving the mount behind. The clip initially is quite stiff.

You do see a decent amount out the rear window with the camera, including a motorcycle that was filtering through slow traffic like a total tit and got necessarily close to my wing-mirror as I was on the motorway. Had I caught him it would 100% have been claimed to of been my fault but the rear facing footage clearly showed him riding like an idiot.

I have 2 fixed cameras. G1W's. I've seen either 2 camera's in one device......(but the rear footage is essentially useless [unless you are a cabbie].... little of the frame shows what is happening out the rear and contrast is determined by the light inside the vehicle rather than outside.) or camera units which come with 2 separate cameras; The rear is wired to the front. Again the footage from the rear isn't normally as good as either a G1W or the front camera.
I suspect the reason for this is the bandwidth the processor can deal with. You get a similar variation in 'quality' when you change between 1080p60, 1080p30, 720p60 and 720p30 (in other camera).
I have 2 G1W's through a trip-cigarette lighter and mod'ed the plug to my car's cigarette lighter with a switched one (although if your ignition controls the cigarette sockets power you wouldn't even need to have this) I got from eBay. (It's a case of soldering 2 pairs of wires together and wrapping a little insulated tape.
Is this a good price then and somewhat future proof or best waiting for newer versio

It's easily removable, there is a switch on the adhesive cradle.
JusticeForThe96
12 Jun 16#31
Apologies for my probably unneccessary uncertainty, but if it is adhesive rather than suction cup, would this mean the cradle would be permanently stuck to your windscreen? So I wanted to sell my car in a few months it would either need removing and cleaning or sell with the car?

Hi, I'm quite keen to learn more about your setup but the links you've posted have been removed from eBay? Any chance you have an up to date one for the easier option you mentioned?
Also, how do the wires look in your car? Don't suppose you could share a pic?

friar_chris
12 Jun 16#37
Uploading now. You see the cameras, but they look cheap especially after I used a marker pen and some white stickers to cover the camera brand logo and the "metalic" plastic round the lens. No one has tried to nick them. The wires can be tucked under the plastic interiors, hocked under the glovebox (it's amazing what you will find) and left under seats and foot mats. They are not a trip risk and do not look that obvious. The cameras are obvious and therefore you look for the cables and therefore you find them. It's pretty minimal though.

I do have a question to anyone who has this. If you are in the car and you start to play with the settings, how do you get it back to show the video. Normally I press a few different buttons and eventually it decides to show the video again.

Dont think the rear camera view is all that good judging by techmoan review too much reflection and view of inside car. I have two dashcams and recommend them both for front I use nextbase 402g had it for 17 months now and leave it in car most of the time. for rear I use sjcam4000 both give stunning video quality in my honda civic

Why do you need to pin point your location?
tomotaxi79
12 Jun 161#48
I'm a taxi driver in a saloon car and this is a great dash cam for outside the front and inside the car picture quality is great inside and out and is pretty clear at night time for identifying people in your car as for recording outside the rear window it's not good at all, I bought this camera for £160 last November and apart from resenting it a couple of times with a pin it has worked fine for my daily 12 hour shift for the last 8 months, as for removing it, it's very easy one squeeze of a button on the window clamp and the camera release, I would purchase the additional window mount for £6 much better than the 1 in the box, passengers are very aware of it in the car which is great

if you wish to remove the adhesive holder - i haven't tried this yet but people recommend a hair dryer to 'melt' the adhesive - others say dental floss to 'saw' through. Mines only been on for a week so it's well and truely stuck on. Will try both methods later and let you know.

I've done it, it's easy, using a hairdryer heat from outside, then inside then outside again. I used a metal spatula and came off, the adhesive is basically like chewing gum and the actual plastic holder is perfectly clean.
