As a father, this machine has served us well & if you're considering purchasing one, then don't hesitate, worth every penny.

Breast feeding is great if you can but everyone needs to stop making mums that dont feel so guilty my mums era were not so informed and pressured they were handed a bottle in the hospital ward also stop saying formula is dangerous Most formula fed babies healthwise are fine and thrive i breastfed my son for 4months constant cluster feeds and he was never satisfied as soon as i switched to formula he was like a different baby everyone could enjoy him alot more and with 2 other kids it was great to have a calmer household although trust me its alot easier to use your boob than to have to sterilize and to have to boil a kettle each time and worry if the waters hot enough this does take some of the faff away but think back years ago my nan told me they used to use the powder with cold water some people were even informed to use watered down or straight condense milk my uncle was and survived to tell the tale my point is not to rant on whats best to do thats personal choice just think as mums we should support each other more instead of judge

facts are not attacks.
I couldn't give a flying fig if you breastfeed or formula feed....that's none of my business.
what upsets me are the deals on these machines which encourage pregnant mums to go out and purchase them, they are making the decision to formula feed before they've even given birth.
it's illegal to advertise formula (from birth) for this exact reason, so personally I don't think that these machines should be allowed to be advertised or special offered etc.
Also to the person that said do I think parents aren't aware of the benefits....no I absolutely don't. your comment proves that. There are no benefits as such, breastfeeding is the biological norm. It is formula feeding that introduces risks.
I 100% believe that most parents have no idea of the risks of formula feeding....I certainly didn't when I was pregnant and none of my friends did either.
You're right though, this is not the place to have this conversation.
I was simply stating that this is not a good deal, I'm entitled to my opinion. And if even just 1 mummy sees my comments and goes away to read up on breast vs formula BEFORE her baby is born then I'll have done a very good thing.
thank you to the ladies who saw my point and didn't attack me.

Do you think anyone needs reminding on a money saving forum that breast feeding is free?
Do you think any parent of a child born in the last few years is unaware of the benefits of breast milk?
Two NHS trusts (of 154) have been quoted not to recommend the machines due to lack of evidence. However the NHS does not give recommendations regarding any formula prep so no, the NHS does not recommend this machine. Or bottle types, or formula brands, or sterilisers etc.
The implication that parents have not researched this machine before using it to feed their child seems rather patronising. Like any responsible parent, I've spent hours prior to (and after) my baby's birth looking at this and the countless alternative methods of preparing formula. Because I too can Google, I had seen that report, which summarises that due to a lack of data, cannot be recommended by the two NHS trusts named.
To state the machine "doesn't kill any bacteria" is an assumption and contradicts the very report linked. Which states it can prove 95% is killed but due to lack of evidence, cannot prove the remaining 5%.

What cruel things to say. She was merely making the point that breastfeeding is free (it is) and that these machines aren't considered safe by the NHS (true). The risks associated with them therefore, makes them (in her opinion) not a good deal irrespective of price. Many babies are fine using these machines however, much like the use of formula which leads directly to 800,000 deaths of infants annually, there are still risks associated and she offered the opinion that she doesn't feel they're good value. Many people aren't aware of this fact and sharing facts are not attacks.
Only 2% of women can't breastfeed - those who don't make milk at all and those who are on medication that prevents it. Formula is a medicine that's designed for babies who have a genuine lactose intolerance and breastmilk (still free even when donated) is the biological norm. Any woman or baby who doesn't fall within this remit has been spectacularly failed by these professionals around her who should have supported her (and her partner and family) in order to succeed at breastfeeding if she wanted to and not have the guilt that racks so many mum's. Couldn't agree more. Awful comment.
We are combination feeding and have ordered one of these for night feeds when my wife is unable to breast feed due to illness and I'm working aware from from home. But I'm sure to someone as perfect in every way as Kthomson, I'm the 21st century version or Hitler.
Keep your dodgy attitude (to yourself).

It's condescending comments like these that can really hurt anxious parents. This is not the place for a breast feeding v's bottle feeding rhetoric. I tried my very best to breast feed my baby and wasn't able to, I was gutted.
This machine is a lifesaver, I bought it when my daughter was a week old, and as others have said, it was the very best thing I have ever bought for her!
Everyone knows that breastfeeding is the ideal, however please don't lose sight of the fact that it just doesn't work out for everyone. I know I'm not alone in the mothers guilt that I couldn't breast feed my baby, and comments like yours just make it that little bit worse.

Not sure if i should get one or not ocado deal looks good however i keep seeing things about safety sons nearly 2 weeks old been either using a flask or boiling the kettle up each time i asked my health visitor she said she hasnt heard of any child getting sick from them as of yet majority of people speak highly of them
These aren't recommended....the hot shot isn't enough to kill any bacteria in the powder.
Also it's sad that people buy them before they've even given birth. Breastfeeding is completely FREE and nutritionally tailored to your baby....to me that the hottest deal of all!
Keep your dodgy powder machine.

I think there are very few people on here that are new customers with Ocado. You can apply that code to any product they sell at RRP and call it a deal with £20 off.
So I and many others can't forget Mothercare.
Anyone managed to buy at £60?

Our son turned 1 last week we got this just before he was born and we could not image life without it. Best investment we made we paid close £90 for the black one and it was worth every penny. Only bad point is the filters are bit expensive to replace I believe you can use standard Brita filters work just as well.

Mamas and Papas and John Lewis are doing the filter for £7.70. I bought few.

No. The bottles must be sterile before use, the hot water is used to dissolve the powder (which ensures any germs in the powder are killed). Then the lukewarm water gets added afterwards.
At least I hope cause that's how I'm using it
donteatlego123

Are you not meant to throw the hot water away after the first burst? That's to sterilise any germs. Then you add the normal water and then powder

So wish my kitchen was bigger so we could fit one of these in but we also need an electric steriliser this time
Round as our microwave doesn't fit a steriliser (ended up having to cold water sterilising when my 2 year old was tiny which was a phaff) and I just won't have room for both :disappointed:

Take a look at the instructions, the midwife may not have used one so advised inaccurately. You boil the water and cool prior to putting it into the machine.
I do wish I had the machine for night feeds early on as I scolded my arm from one sleepy nights incident, but saying that not sure whose baby would have had the first setting of 4oz from early on - so a little emptying is needed I guess. I also found the milk wasn't warm enough, so I have to immediately put baby's bottle under hot water to heat it up a little more for our LO.
Hit and miss item for me. I only use it in the night now for the one feed.

Best thing I ever bought, paid £75 at Boots when my baby was a month old. Wish I'd had it from day one.

We got one ready for when the baby arrives (not sure how we're going to be feeding yet mind) but the midwife was against as it uses unsterilised cold water - i.e. does a hot shot but then adds cold tap water?

No we bought one last week.. You have to flush the system once when you buy it. Once it's set up you put the bottle under.. It puts hot water in.. You add powder.. Put it back under and it fills the bottle to your chosen amount!
It's brilliant! Can only recommend!

I didn't want to buy into one of these with my second child but so glad my sister got me one! It's fantastic and when your half asleep no warming up bottles. Only downside I find is you need to replace filter every few months, there about £10.

Goes for £69 at Ocado.. If u order £11 worth of something else to make it up to £80 u get £20 off... So technically u only pay £49 for this machine... Dont think this is a superb price.
