Great first RC kit for the kids or just to blast around the garden for the dads and relive the Tamiya Hornet/Grasshopper that your mate's big brother had back in the 80's
No it won't compete with high spec RC kit but this is a great little starter bundle from a well respected seller.
A new off-road buggy aimed at the first time builder and racer, the all terrain 2WD Rising Fighter inherits all its great qualities and excellent performance from its predecessors Hornet, Grasshopper, Fighter Buggy and Mad Fighter, using a similar body to the Mad Fighter.
Length: 418mm, Width: 236mm, Height: 187mm, Wheel base: 268mm, Weight: 1000g.
Independent swing axles for the front suspension, a rolling rigid rear suspension, and large sized friction dampers effectively absorb shocks and bumps.
Bevel type diff gear.
Semi monocoque structure acts as the chassis strengthening part (Screws are used to secure the resin body to the bathtub chassis).
Fully enclosed gearbox preventing dirt and debris from interfering with operation.
Powered by a 540 motor (included).
Grooved front tyres and rear spike tires ensure excellent traction for any surface.
Stylish resin moulded body.
This model is completely new but made 100% from existing Tamiya parts - meaning good parts availability from the off. The 540 motor coupled with a direct drive gearbox means a good turn of speed for both the beginner and more advanced driver - yet simple construction means ease of assembly and repair. An excellent first time buy with potential for upgrade later on

good price :-)

I kind of want it just to build it, had a Hornet as a kid and modded it loads. From the picture it looks like a brushless motor speed controller, that would be nice.

Says "Powered by a 540 motor (included)" so not brushless sadly, still a good price though.

ha ha...I think many of these Tamiya kits are only bought for the fun of building..I've bought a few in the past, built them and then sold them on ebay at profit to people who don't like the building part
I've got a Skyline R33 Drift car sitting here right now built, painted and ready to go that I'm still deciding whether to eBay or not
This has a stock brushed Tamiya 540 motor and a dual ESC that will work with a brushless also.

Think he means electronic speed controller, instead of the old mechanical type...

Not necessarily, 540 from memory was a term for the can size of the motor and is interchangeable between both types but brushless does seem optimistic at this price. Still excellent either way

No I meant brushless. Its showing triple high current cable coming out one side of the controller which has always meant 3 phase brushless in the aircraft controllers I have used. Less familiar with car parts these days.
I'd actually forgotten about those mechanical speed controllers, with that big resistor you always burnt yourself on and the controller being in a cut up balloon to stop water getting in. Oh those were the days of real kids toys

Thanks for clearing that up. Still very tempting for nostalgia and fun of building and excellent value

I got the Twin Hammers clone (feiyue fy03) for £27 on Gearbest. Beats this car by a mile for the price.

Have you got a link to the one you bought?

Is that still for sale? I could only see parts. If so would you offer a link? Thanks
Building and hopping up these tamiya kits is half the fun though.

Exactly, and its a great way for kids to learn basic DIY skills without realising it. I owe an awful lot to the skills I learnt messing with these things and model aircraft.

It's years since I've heard of this manufacturer thanks for brining back the memories. Heat from me.

Haven't sold any since December, been 99 since August 2014, so not much of a deal really, IMO anyway

No big deal ... why get excited about £4:95 OFF normal price!?
Also, my security blocks most of that listing as phishing scam? Could be nothing ..... but, careful

I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere... That's why it's a deal

make sure you bag the bearings if you order... It's a bitch to rebuild it to fit the best upgrade
crappy weak mtroniks controller and bog standard weak 540 can, crappy capacity old tech battery. only decent bit is the 2.4g remote. I wouldn't pay £50 for this. But I'm a bit of an RC snob. been building, fixing, and racing around with hobby grade ones since about 2005

Reality is though that the Kit alone retails for £60 minus electrics. it's never going to float the boat of RC purists/snobs but as a first kit for kids or someone just wanting to relive there youth it's a nice little bundle.

Some of us choose a different path...watching my friends bro with a Tamiya Blackfoot I was hooked. Who can forget that 'vibrant vannie' Vanessa's Lunchbox. However, my first was a Mardave Meteor, which I built and the sold back to the shop I bought it from for a small profit, to then buy an AYK Racing Radiant, with chain drive. At this time the RC10 was consistent in wining, the 4WD Shumacher Cat was raced by my local RC shop. Although I still have an Kyosho Ultima sitting on my office floor, what I really wonder about was those mini Tamtech.

Good deal and great toy, for what ? the price of a couple of Nerf guns?
I don't get the snobbery. Tamiya is a model company, nobody claims their often more expensive glue kits are a waste of money.
Tamiya's box art and well written instructions tell you that these are 50% fun in the building. They are backyard bashers that will still last longer than most plastic toys.

These Tamiya kits are excellent for reliving your youth and they are excellent starter kits for kids.
I built my son a Vanessas Lunchbox over Xmas and he has used it to death and it's still going strong, I also recently bought the Grasshopper kit for me to use but haven't had time to build it yet. They are easy to build and parts are cheap if you need them.
The Carson controllers are rubbish and I've had to fix my sons springs inside them already but for under £100 you can't go wrong.
For general grab and go fun they are excellent, unlike my mates nitro car we used last weekend that was a nightmare to start and get running!!
