good deal but the steam link itself is not that great. I have a gig wired home network and even on that any game that requires fast reflexes is a no go. the tiny tiny milisecond lag is very noticeable. good for the odd platform game or slow RPG. terrible for fps , racing. also has no team speak option.

DARN! my steam controller just turned up! would have probably gone for this over paying 7.50 postage. however I never seem to use steam credit, 9/10 time you can find games cheaper off steam

thought about this at one point, but steam decided to ban my account, with over 300 games on it

Wasn't the Steam Controller £27.99 this past weekend? It was the same price for the Steam Link too, so I guess this deal only trumps that price by giving £10 free Steam credit on the Steam Link.

random question but what advantages does the steam controller hold over my Xbox 360 pad? If it works with any steam game including original witcher or call of duty 4 without xpadder etc then I'll buy one in a shot... I prefer a gamepad
reddragon105
9 Jun 161#21
No, he means he buys them from elsewhere, i.e. Humble Bundle, GMG, CDKeys, etc.
I have the same problem - about £40 in my Steam wallet that I'm struggling to find anything to buy with because I always find things cheaper elsewhere, even when sales are on. I almost bought a Steam Link with it at the weekend but the hefty postage cost put me off, as it would be cheaper from eBay or better value to get this bundle from Game.
That's a shame to hear - I'm currently using a Raspberry Pi 2 to stream Steam games to my living room TV, which works great except for a little bit of lag - and considering the RPi was £20 and can do many other things it's much better value than a Steam Link. However I was considering getting a Steam Link just to eliminate that little bit of lag but if it's no better than my current solution I won't bother.
As for teamspeak - have you updated the firmware? USB passthrough was added a few months ago, so if your headset is USB plugging it into the Steam Link should now work as though you've plugged it directly into your PC in the other room. The feature is still a little buggy though, apparently, but once they've got it sorted Bluetooth support should follow as well.

9 Jun 16#26
To be fair it is against the terms of service so they were going to stop you sooner or later. Denying you access to the games you've bought seems a bit harsh, though - did they not send you warnings before the ban?
And yes, people are stupid enough to sell accounts on eBay, and even stupider people buy them, but either those accounts are going to be banned as well sooner or later or the original owner is not going to keep accessing the account, which is presumably why they banned you - because one account was being logged into and games were being played from multiple locations simultaneously.
You could have given your friends access to your games using Steam Family Sharing (up to 5 users and 10 devices) but you wouldn't have been able to play games at the same time.

I almost bought a Steam controller when they were on sale from Steam directly - BUT - Valve have announced they are remaking the controller. It's supposedly not going to be an extensive overhaul, but considering it keeps going on sale right now, that indicates to me that the new version may not be all that far away. I'm going to wait :sunglasses:

Yes, except it's called Moonlight now (changed its name at some point), so it's technically nVidia GameStream rather than Steam streaming. It works really well - I was getting quite bad audio lag when I first tried it but it got fixed after a couple of updates. I have it set up as part of Recalbox, so the Pi loads to a menu with a list of emulators, or you can switch to Kodi or Moonlight, which launches Steam in Big Picture Mode from my desktop. It is a shame it's only for nVidia cards (and only certain ones - my laptop's 630M is just a couple of models too low to support ShadowPlay or GameStream) but I get so much use out of it that it's something that would make me stick with nVidia when I upgrade.

its a good price for poor hardware.
The steam link is unreliable.
The steam controller okish, not great.
Personally I would buy a decent joypad like the ds4 or xbox 360 and a fire tv the next time it goes on sale or use a fire tv stick and install limelight ( if you have an nvidia card )
Guess this is a good option for the AMD card guys, but beware it will require allot of tinkering!

be_vigilant
9 Jun 16#40
yes I completed fallout 4, assassins creed syndicate, rayman and a few other all on the link. you can tell it's laggy when you begin to soon the camera from one direction to another. it most certainly is not instant. yes I maybe being picky but the lag is noticeable. claiming there is 0 lag is false and if you expect 0 lag you will be disappointed.
games that do not require ms responses are indeed great on the link. rayman was a dream to play on the link.
I work as an I.T specialist so I know how to setup a network. it's all gig wired using cat 6.
I did try the remote USB for steam link but the driver was terrible on win 10 x64. buggy would have been too kind a description.
jonboyuk
9 Jun 161#41
On a side note, I too have the Steam Link and a gig cat 6 network going on. I have virtually zero lag @ 1080p 60Hz and have no issues with things like fast paced FPS such as Doom! I wouldn't play CS on it, but then that's a proper mouse/keyboard game for me. I love it.

Selling/Trading accounts has never been allowed on steam ever its in the steam agreement.
No Digital items are allowed on eBay at all, this is why a lot of sellers say they will post you a physical card with the key on and then just don't.
If you ever had a dispute with paypal/ebay over a non physical item you would loose badly.

Oh man, all these comments about steam link being laggy, I'm glad I haven't experienced it, I've played Doom, Borderlands 2 and now playing Rocket League (which is very ping sensitive btw) all pretty much with the same speeds I play on my PC, To be completely honest I do get a lag spike once or twice over a couple hours playtime, but I'm going to boil it down to my homeplugs as they are quite old already, this bundle is a great deal for good hardware.
GustafPangmaar
10 Jun 16#47
Team speak on my phone or ipad while I play with friends, works great but you need a decent earphone with mic that fits on phone jack. also if you use bluetooth headphones then you set and mobile without any interfering cables.

I bought the XBONE controller to play steam games coz I like the feel of it alot, but to be fair the way things are going now there are games that are designed for the steam controller and dont work on the xbox one at all, like XCOM 2 which is a bit annoying, so I got this deal so I can have both. I'm not 100% sure but I think Steam controller is compatible with any steam game to an extend, you can use the touchpad as mouse etc... hope its worth it.
GustafPangmaar
10 Jun 16#49
I actually go the steam link as an upgrade to your exact setup, I was using moonlight setup on raspbian, worked really well except I couldn't update Nvidia drivers before a patch came out for moonlight, and what got me was when I bought Doom, it was a little glitchy without he Nvidia drivers so finally gave in and bought the steam link.
If you want to compare performance, I would say there was no visible difference to the Raspberry Pi 2 and Steam Link except for less worries and faffing. plus it looks much more sleek in my opinion. If you have time to tinker whenever something bugs out on Pi then I advise to stick with pi.
reddragon105
10 Jun 16#50
Thanks for the feedback! I do love to tinker (I think that's a prerequisite for Pi ownership!) and it's great that I have something that also has emulators on it but the one feature that the Steam Link has that I haven't found a solution for is the USB passthrough. Have you tried that on your Steam Link?

10 Jun 16#52
Given you can get a USB Xbox 360 PC controller for £20 from amazon, from my limited perspective this seems expensive. Beyond compatability niggles that I bet run both ways, is this controller a much higher quality?

10 Jun 16#53
The newer steam games such as Xcom2 only support the steam controller. So depends on what games you are playing. With the steam controller it uses the keyboard mappings so everything works without too much fuss whichever game you are playing. The controller is no way near as good as using dual thumbsticks though. So depends on how you want to play your games. I am not a fan of using keyboard and mouse in front of my telly so steam controller is a good enough compromise but I also, have xbox controllers to use on other games.
smckirdy
10 Jun 16#54
It's pretty much universal, it's goot as a vanilla controller pretending to be a windows/xbox controller, but it can emulate pretty much any interface so it plays all games. Personally I love it, but people that are really used to the xbox controller often don't like it because you need a looser more playstation like grip for it to be comfortable, and you get some weirdos that judge their controllers on stupid things like the feel of the plastic. Generally the steam controller is in my book a must have for a PC gamer, and it's very handy even just as good remote if you don't want to sit in front of it at a desk. Customisation is far far better than the likes of xpadder, the steam based interface is really simple and most games have community layouts so someone else does the hard work all you need to do is tweak it to personal taste and it's very quick and easy to do even relatively complex bindings on it. For the price it's well worth a go IMO, it was a no brainer on the pre orders as it came with a free copy of rocket league as well and this deal is pretty similar value.
