Great phone at a (at least in recent memory) low price. Perfect if you're tired of low power small-factor devices or the general screen-size creep of newer phones.
The handset cost is £249, but you will need to top-up the SIM yourself (possibly as low as £5 if using a debit card?) or buy a bundle e.g. the £10 Big Value Bundle (500MB of 4G UK data, 150 UK minutes, Unlimited UK texts).
Vodafone will unlock for free (https://support.vodafone.co.uk/Setting-up-and-using-your-device/Network-unlock-codes/38947782/How-much-does-it-cost-to-unlock-your-phone.htm), but you will need to pay for a top-up and wait 30 days* (https://support.vodafone.co.uk/Setting-up-and-using-your-device/Unlock-your-phone/38947773/Why-am-I-having-problems-getting-a-network-unlock-code-NUC.htm).
* Alternatively it looks like some eBay sellers will sell an unlock code for ~£12 or so and you can avoid the wait. Mileage may vary with this option, however.
Edit: There is a sign outside the High Holborn branch of Vodafone claiming that this deal ends on Monday (4th July).

Ah right, I get it now. Yes, It's a really nice phone, I'm liking it.
No problem. Maybe they'll fix the issue in a firmware update, doesn't seem like a hardware issue.

Same issue as I had with the black jagged edge. Idea is you can take a long panoramic photograph, the software should seamlessly stitch the image into one long sweeping photo. Particularly effective for landscape shots (when it works). Bit surprised that Sony have told me to send it back to them again when it's clearly not just a one off after all. Would appear it's a software issue then, thanks for letting me know.
This seems to be the only real issue and it is just a minor one with the camera app, and a mode that is probably rarely used. Normal photography and video give superb images and you can set the image resolution to suit your needs.
Aside from this it's a great wee phone, sure will prove to be a good buy

I've never tried sweep panorama so don't really know what it's supposed to do, but I've tried taking a pic with it and here are the results..
P.S. if anyone has ordered an unlock code from ebay, how long did it take to arrive?

Thanks, would be interested to find out. I've sent it back to Sony regardless as they loaded a different ROM and default language as well as not fixing the fault first time round.
Think you should be happy with the Z5 Compact's size as seems you are getting one for exactly the same reason as me.

USB charger port is poor... camera is slow to responsed... constantly overheating... Bluetooth is terrible cant hold a connection even when next to device although this could be a marshmallow problem... can't listen to music while doing other processes again ram issues... go get a one plus two good phone and cheap...

I would advise to avoid on two counts of my experience.
Vodafone are a diabolical company and it is well published...although I know you can have it unlocked.
And I upgraded to the Z5c from a Z3c. What a mistake. The phone Burns up and turns itself off, even with minimal use sometimes. It lags at times too. Not a patch on my old Z3c which I loved.
I won't be buying Sony next time.

Oh right, well when I get mine in the next few days I'll test the camera and see if mine does the same, and I'll post my findings here. I had the Z3 Compact and nothing came close to it feature wise with the small size and all. Then I bought the Moto X Force and I'm selling it and buying a Z5 Compact because I can't get used to the bigger size. the larger phones stick out of my jacket pocket.

Found one poster on the Sony Forum with identical issue but don't know if they got it resolved.
Don't get me wrong it's hardly a major issue, only reason sent it to Sony was in case it was indicitive of something else that might develop. Actually more annoyed it's come back from them with a nasty looking pink T Mobile Boot screen and starts up in Dutch saying that this was the original software, language thing changes no problem but getting rid of boot screen is a different matter. Can't even repair the software using Xperia Companion as just getting error codes so will have to go back to Sony again regardless.
Again hardly major problem and certainly nothing to put me off sticking with it, sure the Compact will prove to be the right alternative to the Z5 for me....... eventually

I have had both and Mi5 doesn't feel much bigger as it's more slimmer than the z5 compact and also as the back is covered like the s7 it's more comfortable to hold. Z5 feels quiet chubby after holding it for a bit

Nice phone. Recently bought one to scale down from normal size Z5. My current Z5 is great but just wanting something a bit smaller so compact seemed natural choice.
Could any previous posters who like me already have this phone please do me a favour & try the Panorama Sweep mode of Camera. Majority of my photos in this mode end up with a jagged black edge from about half way along bottom edge and often getting increasingly thicker towards the end. Contacted Sony who asked me to send it for free repair under their 2 year warranty. Just got it back supposedly with fault resolved and it is still the same.
Aside from this issue the phone is lovely to use and would still highly recommend it and these are still changing hands on ebay for about the price of this new one.

Not bad but pay another 35 on top and you could get a brand new xiaomi mi5 with snapdragon 820 CPU, phone is similar in power to Samsung s7 but much nicer looking and better to hold. Also no over heating issues.

Yes they will, costs £20, don't know how long, have to have it active for a month before unlocking, offer ends next Monday reverts to £400, was the answer from the Vodafone shop yesterday.
Does anyone know if Vodafone will unlock these phones?
If so how much ?and how long does it take?

Just done the Z3 Compact - Z5 Compact transition and its slightly (and I mean slightly) larger.
It does get slightly warm - however no more than any other phone.
I don't know whether its just the new phone feeling but its definitely that bit better than before - its the first upgrade in a while where I've felt like an iPhone user moving from 6 > 6s :man:
I use mine as a satnav (waze [other apps are available) and a 3-3.5 hour journey with bluetooth and music uses about 50% of the battery which is a sterling effort!
Given the choice between z3c and z5c (£+100) I would go for the newer model - however I don't see a real issue with sticking with the 3.

I've never felt it overheat or slowdown but then again I have never used it for 4k video recording never felt the need.ive had a lot of phones and currently have this one and a LG gflex 2 and never felt that overheat either even so the snapdragon 810 is known for it.both really fast and capable I get 8 hours screen time on this compact with screen set to about half brightness without stamina mode.but I use nova prime.disable all apps I don't use or uninstall them if possible and keep location off unless I'm using strava or maps

great phone have one myself.also had the z3 compact.not sure it's worth 100 more than the z3 compact.very little difference between them both have similar cameras.similar battery life and performance is great on both and neither overheat it's the 720p screen I tell you pure genious keeps temperature down battery excellent and performance smooth.
