bought this tv a few months ago, really pleased with it. I got John Lewis to price match Argos so I could get the 5 year warranty. Think I paid more, maybe £399 at the time?

I was about to click and submit for payment but just quickly checked Which review - they said sound was abysmal and getting around freeview was slow. Can anyone advise if they agree with this? Otherwise would really like to order it today for my football mad dad in time for the Euros - he has to bang his tv at the moment for it to work.

Poor sound is a given on flat screen TVs. Get a soundbar for a ton or so and you're sorted

I own this exact model and don't think it's too bad. It's not the worst I've heard but certainly not the best. Are you sure the review wasn't for a smaller screen size? Generally, the bigger the TV, the better the speakers they can fit into it.
You'll struggle to find a TV with decent sound quality unless you're going for one of the very top models (£800+). Most of them have abysmal quality compared to a decent soundbar or 2.1 setup.

It's a great tv, fantastic for gaming.

I have the 48" model and I'm very happy with it overall:
+ Colour accuracy is spot on with Cinema 1/Warm 2 settings
+ Superb black levels, best I've seen on a VA panel
+ HD content is very clean and sharp without any artefacts or other weirdness going on
+ SD upscaling is fantastic, especially if you play around with the Reality Creation settings
+ Proper 24p mode for Blu-Ray or other HD content (e.g. Kodi)
+ Film Mode does a reverse pulldown so that broadcast content is displayed in its original 24fps presentation, reducing judder. Basically turns 1080i into 1080p
+ Input lag is about 29ms in Game Mode, completely unnoticeable to my eyes. It's a great TV for gaming
+ Optical output does 5.1 passthrough to a receiver. Most only do 2.0 PCM
+ Satellite and Freeview connections
+ Can record Sat/Freeview to a USB drive
+ 4 HDMIs
- Some visible backlight banding if some colours dominate the screen. Seems worst with sandy colours or pale blues. This is an issue with most large screen LCDs though, and is usually a lot worse on cheaper models. Overall it isn't a massive deal
- Slow to start up. You have to wait a good few seconds until the options menu is accessible
- SMART features aren't particularly smart. This isn't an Android TV and the interface seems a bit clunky, but still useable
- This is a criticism of Sony rather than this specific TV, but the picture options are very confusing. They also have a habit of renaming their options with different models.
- It's not a 100Hz TV. It's a standard 50/60Hz with extra processing options, so don't expect any fancy (read: overrated) motion interpolation etc for sports. Personally I find it absolutely fine for football.

Can you plug the Tv into the sky leads to use the freesat.

I got the 40 inch version of this in Feb and I've been really happy with it overall. Picture quality is excellent and sound isn't too bad for the size. One of the best TV's around for low input lag making gaming on it superb. Only downside for me is the slow start up but I'm wiling to overlook that for the many pro points about this TV.

The picture is great and I'm quite content with the sound quality.
However the most frustrating thing about this model is it is rather slow...from turn on...to allow channel change or change of HDMI input..I've had the TV for over a year and I still find it a frustration.
I think the problem lies with a slower processor than the likes of Samsung..

I am really interested in the TV and its a great price, I was wounding Could you put your Sky leads into the TV to use the freesat if so will you be able to record and pause the TV. Last question can you add KODI as an app to this Tv. Thank you Dominic

Coming from a Pioneer Kuro Plasma, would I be happy with the picture quality? I only watch movies, thanks

From the best plasma to a LCD ? Probably not.....it is a good tv but the Kuro was a benchmark product.

Thanks, the kuro just died yesterday, a bit of a dilemma between fixing it or jumping on this in the meantime...

@rusty. Pay for this online and if your not happy just use it while you're Kuro is fixed returning it within 28 days?

You can connect the TV sat connector to your sky dish BUT you will not get any Freesat menu functionality since Sony TVs only have a basic FTA Satellite tuner giving you limited EPG info.

AO.COM will price match and using GET25 code there will leave you £324 + 1.5% quidco £320ish total,, now thats not bad is it ???

you can record to usb stick from the tv.

Not heard great things about AO customer services, mainly the fuss they make when trying to return stuff. Richer Sounds or John Lewis price match might be worth checking instead.

You were definitely right, bought it yesterday, it's going back today. Picture is pretty average, sound is shocking and for a "smart" tv the processor is very slow!
Seems like a good tv, although the 2016 model only has 2 hdmi sockets.

this is an excellent TV. brought November last year for £399 YouTube option works really well and miracast is faultless. the colour clarity is beautiful. I emailed Sony and have confirmation of 5years warranty on this tele also. can't got wrong for £350

Yeah, looks like I got the same one (KDL-48WD65?)
I dont know if I should be glad or nah, i mean the model we received has 2 HDMI ports instead of 4 compared to the older model, there doesnt seem to be any other differences though, im assuming its faster?
On the plus side we saved over £100 and we got a 2016 model!
Haha yeah I have the same mindset. Not sure if the 2016 version is better as I can't find many reviews on it, but happy that we got the more expensive model either way!

You'll need to buy a TV firestick to get kodi on this as it doesn't have an andriod interface.

Great price, for a great tv for Freeview.
Mine is now set to Scene:Cinema2 Picture:Warm2 and gives IMHO really good colour quality.
Its as good a picture as my old Sony KDL 32EX ... just massively bigger - which is exactly what I was wanting.
I plan to add a Sandisk Ultra Fit mini usb drive (64gb £13?), more for the ability to pause live tv than recording - I still have a pvr for that.
