No no no, no, no and no again. Bad bad bad advice. Do not use a task killer on Android ever, Android works by utilising the memory. Using a task killer is totally against how Android operates. Do not use a task killer app on Android. Have I said NO, I think I have NO!

I've received my tv on Monday and I'm impressed. Maybe because my 42" Toshiba Regza is 8 years old, so technology made a big step forward. I love android features, quick login using my mobile + mobile-remote app. Easy to setup logitech myharmony universal remote so no need to learn all the sony buttonology. Picture quality (sky, 720p) great. I've noticed two satellite input, not sure it has DBS receivers. Easy config in a few steps, Software auto update soon after, quick tuning to DBT, all HD channels work great.

In the market for exactly this sort of product at this sort of price point; not particularly put off by the scares over ao.com (probably because I've never had to return a single product) but slightly concerned by the combination of a lack of reviews by major sites, and a few really bad reviews on buying sites.

Depends what you want Android TV to do. The app store was well integrated (and you can of course send apps to the TV from the web interface on your PC. However, you won't get all of the catchup services (some sort of licensing shenanigans I believe). Netflix & Amazon video are there (and so is Kodi if you're into that).
fox2319
12 Jun 161#27
I did all that and while it might have sped things up (though still sluggish compared to the samsung), it still didn't allow me to either set reminders or record to USB. You can enable those by turning of YouView of course but then you're unable to use all of the catchup services.
In the end (before I took the tv back to the shop for a refund), I worked out that you can set reminders using the SideView app and that seems to work but it's a bit weird that you can't do it from the TV itself.

AS A CONSUMER, YOU HAVE LEGAL RIGHTS IN RELATION TO PRODUCTS WHICH ARE faulty or NOT AS EXPECTED. We're under a legal duty to supply products that meet the requirements to be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as expected. We'll offer resolutions according to the timelines outlined by the Consumer Rights Act 2015

The updated distance selling rules gave power back to the seller because the earlier iteration was ridiculously one sided in favour of the buyer. Now, you can only reasonably inspect the goods 'as you might reasonably be able to do in a shop' which does not include taking a new tv out of the box and plugging it in, for a model not already on display. The previous rules permitted the buyer to render goods 'second hand', reducing their value while obtaining a full refund from the seller. Like it or not, these rules were adding cost to everything we buy online because the loss of returned goods had to be recovered somehow, most likely from increased prices.

Yes our point is other retailers DO NOT charge a up to 50% restock fee despite new laws .John lewis let me return a TV which I had for 2 months for a full refund .most people probably won't read terms cond until its too late.

Argos - so I missed the excitement of arguing over a restocking fee for a faulty item.
We're happy for you to unpack the item and inspect it properly, however, if you've used or installed it, we will only make a partial refund to cover the loss in value of the product. Please note, this could be up to 50% of the price of the item. Your refund will be made within 14 days of collection.

I had one of thes TVs for around a week. After the initial software update (approx 1 hour), you get youview but the whole tv seems to be extremely slow and unresponsive. YouView also seems to disable sub recording and the ability to set reminders.
After a week my to seemed to develop some sort of major software fault that I couldn't recover from. In the end, I just took it back and got a Samsung.

I'm pretty sure restocking fees of that nature were outlawed when consumer protection law changed last Oct 1st.

^^ this.
If you buy a TV and find the quality dissatisfactory, the law says you can return it within 14 days for a full refund. AO.com, totally illegally, withhold over 40% of your refund though. Hence, totally avoid these crooks.

Restocking fees of 50% for used items (switch your new TV on and decide it's not suitable).
I'm aware most won't return though I avoid AO on principle due to this.
