Aside from not fitting in a ps4 etc the older versions of this were soldered drives with no sata ports anyone know if that's still the case?

Not quite as cheap but decided to go with the HGST Travelstar 7K1000 which is a bit faster at 7200rpm than the typical 5400rpm speed for portable drives, its also one of the most reliable brands as well but the downside is that it only comes in a 1TB version.

The 2tb model they sell seems to be a lot better, for just over half the price, it's USB 3 for a start and a lot quicker.

This one is USB 3.0 as well. It's the Random Writes that are relatively slow, so depending on what you're planning to store it may not be an issue. If it's going to be used to store media and 2Tb isn't enough then this is still a good option.

Not sure anyone will have the answer, but does anyone know if this drive will fit a caddy in the HP DL380 G7 server?

You mean if you take it out of the case or as it is?
I have these and they're excellent, Wish they made a 2TB version or even a 7200rpm 2GB 2.5" Hard Drive any brand...

If you want to use this to store valuable, important information then STAY AWAY.
Have a look at all of the reviews on Amazon for the dreaded 'beeping' issue on these drives, it happened to me last week and I didn't even drop the drive!
Had it for 6 months, worked fine, no issues, then last week, I went to plug it in and all it did was beep beep beep and wouldn't appear on my Laptop or 2 other devices I tried.. more research into it and it's a very common problem, something to do with the head of the drive getting stuck internally. Anyways, to get it fixed, it'll cost you a fair amount of money or it's a DIY job which is risky.
Safe to say, I'll never be buying a Samsung drive again!

So I'm looking for a drive. External. USB only if possible. 1tb or 2tb
There are 3 things: Speed, Reliability, Cost.
I'm willing to let go of speed and cost. So what's the most reliable drive I could get?
No matter the cost or the speed

Sorry, I meant the drive inside. AFAIK it is taller than normal drives

Well a 1tb SSD from either Intel or Samsung is going to be the most reliable. It will also be as fast as the connection it has. The downside is it won't be cheap.

Good people dont worry it will come down in price, Newton's law of gravity says what
goes up must come down even if its in space.

Except there's no up or down in space...

I think I've seen this drive below £100 on Aria a few weeks back. Keep an eye out of it if you're not in a hurry to get one.

I've had the 2tb hard drive for two years now and never had a problem. Silent and responsive and it gets used every day.

Great find - you should log it as a separate deal. Anybody know what this Maxtor has inside (eg 9.5mm, SATA connector)?

Will this work on Xbox?

Really irritating that Sony felt the need to make the diameter size for HDDs the same as PS3 (with the PS4). They had to realise that eventually bigger HDDs like this would be released thus being a convienience for mass download users like me.
When you take into account various patches, updates, fixes, DLC etc that are released along with mandotory game installs that can get pretty hefty space wise. My 2TB one just isn't cutting it anymore and it doesn't help that I can't use external ones like with Xbox One :disappointed:
