Spotify Connect
This Roberts radio also has the advantage of offering Spotify Connect. Spotify Connect uses your existing Spotify account but seamlessly transfers it between sources. So, for example, you might be listening to Spotify on your mobile device then, when you arrive home, transfer it to the Roberts radio at the touch of a button! Wherever you use 3G or 4G, Wi-Fi or LAN, AirPlay, Bluetooth or UPnP, Spotify Connect simply keeps the music following - seamlessly.

Another great feature with the Roberts Stream 93i is the ability to stream your own music. Thanks to UPnP (Universal Plug n Play) and DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), it's easy to both find other devices on your home network and then stream from them - either over a ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. So, for example, you might want to stream music stored on your PC or laptop. With the Stream 93i it's easy. It will even cope with a wide range of files, including MP3, WMA, FLAC and AAC.

Colour display and easy interface
With such a wide choice of streaming music options, it's good to see the Roberts can easily make sense of them all via its clear, logical control layout and colour screen. Using a large control knob, it's easy to scroll up and down the menus with selection just a simple push 'click' away.

DAB or FM
In addition to Internet radio and streaming, the Stream 93i also offers DAB and FM wavebands. DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) gives access to the widest range of stations in the UK, in crisp and clear digital sound quality. In case your favourite stations aren't available in DAB, then the Stream 93i is also equipped with an FM tuner. Boasting RDS for station naming, this is almost as easy to use as DAB and still provides great sound quality.

Great connectivity including USB
Yet another highlight with the Roberts Stream 93i is the USB socket. This connects to a USB media device and, like the DLNA streaming, works with a wide variety of file types, including MP3, WMA, FLAC and AAC. The Stream 93i not only has a headphone socket but also a 3.5mm output socket - perfect for plugging in a pair of more powerful active speakers or even your home hi-fi. The main reason for recommending this is this recent announcement from Roberts about a firmware update that will allow the radio to handle the new-format BBC iPlayer/Listen Again streams that changed 18 months or so ago. Not many radios can handle the changed formats - but this one now can:

Firmware Update: Roberts Stream 93i radio

We are very pleased to announce that the Stream 93i Smart Radio will receive an exciting firmware update over the next few days. This update will bring additional functionality, including the ability to receive higher quality Internet Radio streams and listen again services from the BBC. In order to receive this latest update, please ensure your Stream 93i is connected to the internet, and set to automatically check for new versions of software. Please note: this update adds a wide range of new features to the Stream 93i. A full reset of the radio will be performed once the update process has completed, and you will be required to re-enter your network password in order to reconnect the radio to the internet. This update may also result in favourite stations and presets being removed from the radio.

Stream 93i – Added functionality as a result of the update:

DASH Support – You can now listen to BBC Internet Radio streams at a significantly higher audio quality than previously.

On-Demand Listening – Catch up on many recent broadcasts from the BBC. These are also now available in a higher audio quality than previously. In addition, you may pause, resume, rewind or fast-forward through the programme being listened to.

Music Player – Support for the Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) for music files streamed to the radio using DLNA or played from a USB memory device.

Kitchen Timer – A convenient and easy to use timer, that may be set in one minute increments up to a maximum of 5 hours. A buzzer alarm will sound at the end of the set interval, but with a faster volume increase than existing alarms. The Kitchen Timer may be used whether the radio is playing or in standby, with a ‘time remaining’ indicator present on the display during use.
