Beautiful phone, terrible slide always losing mic function. I used to buy up the nokia "banana" phone (7110 or matrix phone) paint various bits gold, and sell them on Ebay for reasonable profits. Ah glory days. I also love the Ericsson T10's & T28's

Gaww my first phone was a 3210 and though it was great at the time, i definitely wouldn't replace my smartphone with it.
I do however know a few people who have these older phones which they keep in the car or take with them on holiday just in case.

That was a smartphone. I used Route 66 navigation and Viewranger GPS to get me from John O'Groats to Lands End by bicycle. & it had a surprisingly excellent camera - one photo of which I still use to this day (for a gravatar).
Loved that phone - even if the battery life was a joke

Thanks to browsing this thread in bed last night, I had a dream about a dodgy salesman in a phone shop trying to sell me a bloody Nokia N95 in 2016, stating that it is "top of the range", "the fastest phone on the market" and "runs all the latest apps". I left the store fuming because of his lies, and woke up shortly after.

I had one of these but the cover spring broke really really quickly!
To be honest this thread is filled with nostalgic sentiment but really my favourite phone ever was the Nokia 95 8GB. That phone was truly a revolution and a joy to use before real smart phones came along. First time I was able to put my entire music collection on one device and browse that awful internet! Yet still unbreakable. Just to top it off the camera was great.

What is wrong with people on here? It might have been a good phone back in the day, but that was back in the day. If someone posted a deal on a PS1 tomorrow for £25, would everyone get all nostalgic and make it scorchio? I think not! Some folk seem to be getting all gooey and likening this phone to their cherry-popper FGS.
I was just about to post this. I thought I was the dog's bullocks when I had one of these in 6th form. Still have it but there's a problem with the motherboard.

Irony is that I've never dropped a phone as much as I dropped my 3310, had it for 2 years and by the end of that it was dented, scratched without next to none of the original paint on the case. It was regularly dropped and then kicked across the car park when getting out of the car, but it worked perfectly, the battery lasted a week and I could text faster on this then on any of the new phones with full keyboards.
Learned how to text blindly on this as well so I could message the missus with the phone in my pocket, great phone, great memories

No, they don't. However, they used to have a fallback position with Orange, iirc, so if there was no 3G signal you could still make out take calls. Think that option doesn't exist now, but 3's sim cards must have allowed 2G in the past.

Yep, when a phone was a phone, a device mainly for TALKING to other people, with just an alarm clock and calculator thrown in as extra features.
I put one of these modern smartphones to my ear to talk and it's like putting a sharp-edged glass brick to it, all flat and hard, and the screen does god knows what when I touch it to my ear too fast. Argh! This isn't progress. I'm actually going back to my simple Nokia as a talking device and using my smart phone for the rest: mp3 player, map, weather checker, emailer, Skyper, recorder, camera, stopwatch, Shazam-er, gaming device, translator, sleaze-enabler and calendar. There's room for two devices in my ample trouser pockets.

I have used Aliexpress for dozens of transactions, paying with my VISA card. Aliexpress store the details. I think the actual website is one of the best to use on the entire net. Automatically translates to English. You can select currency displayed, free shipping items etc. Only thing I do not understand is how you can buy a packet of seeds for seven pence post paid to UK. Is the British Post Office getting paid anything to deliver the item in the UK?. I know a lot of items are shipped by air, but what happens to the cost for the final delivery?
I do not use any dodgy porn sites etc. and the biggest risk to any web user is dodgy emails. I got caught by one from a friend whose machine had crapware installed. Fortunately it was only spam I got caught with. I always format hard disk, and install Windows again. I have dozens of arguments about this, but I have never seen a machine with crapware installed cleaned 100%.

"Electromagnetic radiation"

There are three types of radiation Alpha, Beta and Gamma none of which come from a phone.

I'd forgotten that. Still one of my favourite handsets - but this was back in the days that you had to trade in your handset on upgrades.
My wife's first phone was a Philips Diga (that she got when I was out of the country for work cos she knew I'd go mad). Mine was a Motorola brick of some sort when Tesco Mobile launched with a £29 payg deal(?!?).
Then I got my 3210 on contract. Still have a working OVP Virgin sim on a Motorola Slvr (Red).

I worked for the now long gone Time Computers, and we had a mobile concession up the back of the shop. They got a Startac as a trade in, and lost the bit of paper with the code. The manager said if I could find the code I could keep it. Took me about 3 days to get to it as you could only put in 2 wrong entries (a 3rd would permanently lock it) before having to switch it off and on again. Finally got to 9723 and it was mine.
Felt like I was on Star Trek when I used it! Loved that wee phone.

Their policy about not getting what you ordered is rubbish afaic. This from ordering 2 watches. 1st came with gouges that were plated over. warweezil
10 Jun 16#196
By the time they added the "7" to mobile numbers (wasnt that around 96/97?) I had left 1-2-1 and was on Orange, same Motorola Flip but a different model number, I moved onto my First Nokia an Orange badged NK402 (5110) followed closely by an NK702 (6110) which I still have here somewhere along with my trusty unlocked 3310 that was modded with Blue LEDS when I got it. Still works too. Currently running on a spare PAYG EE SIM.
My daily phone is an iPhone 6+ which replaced a very disappointing Galaxy s3 - Id never buy anything Smasung again after 2 bad experiences. Sad to see what happened to Nokia, the 3310 harks back to the days when they made phones of unbeatable quality and performance.
And for the sourpuss whining about "trips down memory lane" no one forces you to read posts here... ignore what doesnt suit you. For some finding old tech like this may just be a great thing for elderly relatives who still prefer this basic but reliable tech.

Most of the new sims I have seen recently are multi sims that come in 3 "template sizes" that allow you to simply pop out the size of sim you want.
My first handset in 1995 - a Motorola M301 flip phone on Mercury 1-2-1 (0956 code - no 07 stuff back then ) took a credit card sized sim.
Ah good old 1-2-1 with free evening calls to adjacent dialing codes.

Was the sim card a full size credit card size on this model? I think I had this too
Jumping on the bandwagon, this was my first phone.
The Ericsson A1018s on One2One:

No, it's because Three have never supported 2G handsets. If you stick a Three SIM in any 2G device, it'll register on EE 2G initially before sending you a warning text advising you to only use a 3G or 4G handset, and then it'll disconnect from the network.

It's safe in terms of the fact that it is a well established site. However, in a similar way to other sites, the sellers on there are independent - you aren't dealing with AliExpress, they are just a portal for sellers.
I've bought quite a lot of stuff from there, including electronics. You just have to be careful what you are buying as everything is cheaply manuafactured Chinese clone goods (in most cases). Everyone I've dealt with there was fine, until one transaction when a satellite box turned up scratched, with loose parts, broken front screen etc. You would have to send any item back to China if there is fault - there is no real "buyer protection" other than return goods for a refund and hope the seller is genuine and admits to getting the goods back (if the cost of posting stuff back is worth it).

My first digital phone was the Orbitel 902, with what was described in the press as an “earlobe defroster” feature - basically the phone would get quite hot if you were on a long call, probably one of the starts to the idea that you’d get cancer from a phone's RF…

the phone was released in 2000 , 16years later do you really think they are still making them or have tons of unsold stock?
Actually refurbed by the chinese for these means - they got a new case on and a new battery and a new charger! the guts are however from the actual old phones, if you think the casing will be as durable as when it was in 2000 you are wrong as the cases for these are chinese-made not the original things.

People, Please stop wasting $ on stuff you don't need, I had this phone when it first came out, compared nowadays to same price £10-£15 button phone nokia that phone was utter garbage. It's heavy, It isn't as durable as they make you believe, and the battery lasts for like a week max on it.. nowadays nokia button phone batteries last for a month+ and they are as durable as this ancient thing, let alone the extra features such as radio/flashlight.
Stop wasting earth resources on stuff you just want to buy for ''fun'' , if you really need extra phone buy a decent modern button phone for the same price!
Well, my first phone was the original Nokia 100. £25 a month purely for the line, and 25p per minute (chargeable in minute increments) per call.

I wouldn't say they are any better / worse to be honest, it's more down to the network in my experience.
I had to lean out the Window with my Nokia 3210, Ngage QD and Nokia 6630 to get signal, all on o2.
With my Nokia N95 i moved over to Three and have had full 3g signal at home ever since. (Now 4g).
o2 devices do actually get full signal in my house now too, although that didn't happen until sometime in 2010.

I actually quite like this phone but I agree with you on the 7110. 7110 was the phone I've enjoyed more than any other, great scroll wheel for web browsing. Trium Eclipse was cool with its huge colour screen back in the day when phone's didn't have screens that big and when in a chat room would display smilies just like on a desktop, I think that was around 2004 I had one of those bought for £30 in clearence at Carphone Warehouse. Star-tac was great too all the way back in 1998! But my first phone was a Motorola Flip in 1993. Whenever it rang people would stare because hardly anyone had a mobile back then. I can remember being terribly embarrassed when it rang just as I was being served at a busy supermarket till and everyone in the que was staring at me!

So back in the day my best phone of all time as shown above was the 6310i. One of the 1st to have Bluetooth. Also I had a cradle in the car where the car had an aerial on the back window to boost the reception. It worked brilliantly. Remember being on the phone in the car hands free all the way from London M25 to Manchester without a single dropped call. Also, when I first got it I charged it up fully and then went on holiday for 2 weeks to Spain (but forgot to take the charger) and it was still on when I got back home, despite being on standby for 2 weeks!!! Try doing that with today's smartphones. Dropped lots of times, replaceable batteries and colouful facias galore on every highstreet. Those were the days.

I do however know a few people who have these older phones which they keep in the car or take with them on holiday just in case.
I get kind of sick of seeing these 'HUKD Pick' deals, but never hovered over the icon so never noticed it change.
Loved that phone - even if the battery life was a joke
To be honest this thread is filled with nostalgic sentiment but really my favourite phone ever was the Nokia 95 8GB. That phone was truly a revolution and a joy to use before real smart phones came along. First time I was able to put my entire music collection on one device and browse that awful internet! Yet still unbreakable. Just to top it off the camera was great.
If you don't like the deal, don't click on the link
This place really baffles me sometimes!
Thank god for "AdBlock Plus Element Hiding Helper" which enables blocking of that 'Featured' item from the other deals.

I loved my Nokia 5110 so much I bought one again for the nostalgia not so long ago & to show my children what "mobile" phones were like back in daddy's day! Here's my Nokia 5110 now running on Pebble - now with better signal than ever before
With an honourable mention for the 6800 a few years later!
My first phone
Compared to the **** iPhone battery life.
There's room for two devices in my ample trouser pockets.
not 3 gb ram

I do not use any dodgy porn sites etc. and the biggest risk to any web user is dodgy emails. I got caught by one from a friend whose machine had crapware installed. Fortunately it was only spam I got caught with. I always format hard disk, and install Windows again. I have dozens of arguments about this, but I have never seen a machine with crapware installed cleaned 100%.

I preferred the 3210 to the 3310 but for style the 8210 was the bees!
Felt like I was on Star Trek when I used it! Loved that wee phone.
When I first saw a Motorola startac, I was amazed by its size. That was a jump forward in technology right there
offer phone for comparison
Deal wise this is poop though, you can get a new nokia 100 for this price! I have one sat in my car for emergencies. Wouldn't trust the chinese refurbs here!
great phone for it's time, what model was the next after this 3330 ?
My daily phone is an iPhone 6+ which replaced a very disappointing Galaxy s3 - Id never buy anything Smasung again after 2 bad experiences. Sad to see what happened to Nokia, the 3310 harks back to the days when they made phones of unbeatable quality and performance.
And for the sourpuss whining about "trips down memory lane" no one forces you to read posts here... ignore what doesnt suit you. For some finding old tech like this may just be a great thing for elderly relatives who still prefer this basic but reliable tech.
it went from 0956 to 07956......ive even found the m301 in my uncles garage
This isn't a "Let's skip down memory lane" Website. It is a money saving website and this sure as hell isn't a hot UK deal. Muppets.
My first handset in 1995 - a Motorola M301 flip phone on Mercury 1-2-1 (0956 code - no 07 stuff back then ) took a credit card sized sim.
Ah good old 1-2-1 with free evening calls to adjacent dialing codes.
bullet test..
The Ericsson A1018s on One2One:
Even remember the tariffs they had; More2Say and Up2You. Think one of them had 2p weekend calls, and the other tariff had 5p/min calls after you'd made the first two minutes of calls at full price (30p).
one2one, they had a offer of free calls anywhere in the world on Christmas Day 1993
my cousin purchased the phone and contract
Just me then? :disappointed:
I've bought quite a lot of stuff from there, including electronics. You just have to be careful what you are buying as everything is cheaply manuafactured Chinese clone goods (in most cases). Everyone I've dealt with there was fine, until one transaction when a satellite box turned up scratched, with loose parts, broken front screen etc. You would have to send any item back to China if there is fault - there is no real "buyer protection" other than return goods for a refund and hope the seller is genuine and admits to getting the goods back (if the cost of posting stuff back is worth it).
Definitely never run a manufacturer's ROM, if only for avoidance of bloat.
IT'S THE DEVIL!!
:laughing::wink:
Jeez haven't you got big hands and really red skin
I remember getting it from one of the major electrical retailers, it had it's own mobile shop inside the store but was a separate company?
Can't remember who it was though, DX communications rings a bell?
Remeber this brick? My 1st phone.. loved it.
I can confirm that the 3310 is indestructible, but the battery is not (its not charging) :disappointed:
Why not praise the earlier housebrick "mobile phones" too ?
still the coolest phone
This was the first mobile I used (or one very like it, was my dads).
But the 1st phone I ever truly owned was thanks to the Matrix, the Nokia 8110.
