Had my 175w Elite since March 09, used almost daily, the console itself has been rock solid!! I just make sure shes well ventilated and vacuum her holes once a year!
If only the missus was as easily satisfied...

Well I have a 'falcon' version elite 120gb and it's never had RROD. I red somewhere that the black elite versions didn't suffer as much as the white ones. Just remember this could be a jasper model therefore less likely to suffer from RROD.

That's one of the original ones that gets red ring. I wouldn't pay £49 for it. No way! I had that one. You're better off seeing if you can get a deal on a more recent model.

I'd say it's worth to own an additional 360/PS3 if only to play the arcade games that were removed from the store and tons of other cool stuff (play the Battlefront 3 Beta on 360).

Never owned the older versions of the 360 but the Slim model is excellent and I've never had a problem with it though the same can't be said for my PS3, because when it had some odd freeze/electricity thingy it'd ask to analyse the HDD for hours. Turns out that was unnecessary and now I just reject the request.

I had a Falcon from release and it first died 3 or so years later, which was fixed with reballing, new clamps, arctic silver, fan mod - you know the drill. I would not have saved it the second time around had it not been for the flashed Benq. In comparison, the Slim has been going a lot longer and is quietly doing it's job.

This isn't an original console, these are vastly more reliable and my own Elite is still running perfectly, after about 5 years of ownership, after 3 of the older machines all died, 2 from the RROD :neutral_face:

I still have a few 360s and one is a Falcon and never had an issue with it. They are likely to be Jasper which is the best model to get in the old design. It has a slightly quieter DVD drive compared to the launch console which was very loud, However installing to HDD helped with this anyway.
I agree the launch console (the one without the HDMI) were RROD waiting to happen.
Pretty decent with warranty aswell.

Sorry, but bad deal, especially if you value your hearing. You can get a much quieter Slim from Game for £59.99 (occasionally £49.99) complete with 12 months warranty.

I recently got a 250gb slim for £45 on ebay, might be worth a look since they are much less likely to have RROD and have built in wifi (the adapter costs about £15)
