If you disable 'Connected Standby' then it doesn't drain when off which means the battery isn't always flat when you come back to it. But you are right, though, it's arguable that having micro-USB charging at all is a lot more convenient than proprietary charging.

Nope, the Surface 3 (non pro) also has these issues. Takes near enough 4-5 hours for a full charge. You can buy a Dell high wattage charger to resolve the issue to some degree but these charge slowly and drain in standby pretty quick.
The charger I speak of is the Dell Venue 11 pro 24W charger - about £15 on Amazon and will make your life so much better.

I think you must have been unlucky, with mine the backlight bleed is not a problem, and I find the S-IPS screen to be very nice when watching movies or other things as the colours and contrast are quite good.

Pretty much. I think that's the price you pay for convenience all things considered. It's just a shame these tablets drain the batteries when in standby or off. I think the Surface 3 doesn't have this problem though?

Actually they have increased the price by £10 on the 9th of June

It is a hybrid, tablet size and usage but with a powerful enough CPU, big enough size and full OS of a small laptop
The USB power issue is reflective of many many small laptops, such as the ASUS CHI series for instance, you can't expect a full computer experience from a tablet sized laptop, its a great option for quick on the go or small stuff, its not a desktop or a big Dell

Isn't that typical of Windows tablets? So this is really a tablet with a keyboard? Not a laptop.

Yeah, you could carry a charger too. But as I said, while this has a small 8.9" screen the actual case for this is more like a 11" netbook or chromebook. So while the screen is small, the actual laptop isn't as small as you think as I reckon there is about 1 1/2 of bezel around the screen. I'm sure the case could house a 10" screen at least.
Try one if you want as Argos are good with returns, but IMHO the frustrations with this are not worth the hassle. Amazon Warehouse and Argos have had hundreds of these so obviously they are getting a lot of returns. I loved the idea, but hated it in practice!

Ahhh I see, yeah that is a bummer
Surely just time your charges and perhaps carry a portable one if you're out? not a deal breaker imo but not ideal

No, you are missing the point. With a normal laptop, if the battery is flat, you just plug in PSU and away you go. On this you can't as USB isn't strong enough to power it up. So the batteries need a fair bit of charge before you can use it, you can't power it on it's own with the USB PSU. So if the batteries are dead you need to charge it for several hours before it will power up, even if the USB charger is connected.
It's a real deal breaker I think as you can't just plug in a PSU on empty batteries and start work, unlike pretty much every other laptop ever made.

I think that Microsoft gives a cheaper licence fee for screens under 9 inches and that maybe Why this is just under. I'm sure someone else could confirm it.
Nice find OP, heat added.

Hi
I bought one a week or so back when they were 89.99 and too be honest I sent it straight back.
A few problems with these:
1) The charger is via USB only, and it can be almost impossible to turn the damn thing on. Unlike with a normal laptop power supply, if there isn't enough juice in the batteries, it simply won't power on
2) The screen is pretty poor. Its obviously backlight and towards the edges of the screen, there is light bleed
3) The bezels on this are massive, I'm pretty sure you could put in a screen much closer to 10 inches.
The item when it arrived was in very good condition, but this is cheap on Argos and Amazon for a reason too be honest :disappointed:

The first problem isn't really an issue, its just, if its not charged, it wont turn on? :P
Secondly, I can't comment on the backlight but the screen is 1900x1200 which is much better than the typical screens you get at this price
Thirdly, the screen size is the screen size, no matter the bezel, I'm sure you could say that about pretty much any laptop, often the bezel contains wiring or screen connections, which is why it has to be that size. Its a tiny laptop by dimensions, great for work on the go, so I dont see how the bezels can be absolutely huge
