Yes, very true. Don't consider this a replacement for an android or apple tablet. More like a mobile PC. You will be satisfied with this purchase if you already know what you want to run on it before buying, but not if it's a present for a person who wants 'a tablet' as they will be expecting WhatsApp, clash of clans etc.

Good price but windows tablets are generally terrible. You would probably be better off with a low end or discounted android model and it's not like those are difficult to find.

Fantastic deal. Ordered the tablet only and delivered on time and promptly. Came packaged in original box and in excellent condition. The tablet itself is snappy and fast I'd say, faster than some of the Chinese tablets I've purchased in the past (Ainol, Cube). Windows 8.1 is a pleasant surprise. I suppose most people are used to apps, but the sky's the limit with desktop mode on a Windows tablet. Went on the excellent linxtablet forum and done a dual boot with Win10 and Android.
This tablet is quite possibly the best electronic purchase I've made, I would've bought more had I known how good a tablet it was. Thanks for posting the deal!!!

Plex Media Server, KODI...general all round media centre type unit...and pretty much everything else that can be done with a basic windows based unit; not too shabby for £27.99
would be really good if it can be charged via usb port on tv - need to check but no biggy

Great find.
You can actually do a lot with this tablet. Although it's not very powerful it's great for day to day light stuff, even transcoding and playing videos.
It's a great option for creating a simple cheap Win10 desktop. If you've got a monitor or TV, just add a keyboard/mouse.
Here's a video of it running Plex, it's also running in dual screen to an external monitor and a keyboard/mouse plus a hard wired network connection.
Just googled importance of transcoding...so it all depends on the Plex apps media compatibility...
Thanks for the info

on my asus t100, dell xps 18, samsung nc10, alienware m11x, sony something... they have all installed a bootloader so you can select remixos or windows. only thing on tablet pcs is you cannot select remixos without a keyboard. you might be able to change defaults though by editing it. i could not install remix os on t100 sd card. only internal card. and that severely limits space for windows. but they improve software all the time. think there is a special section for linx 7 ans remixos on the web.

My theory is a lot of Linx 7s were returned like my original one due to the noise on the headphone jack. I knew it was a known fault on all Linx 7s but still got it replaced. New model also had the noise but came with another Office subscription, so if you buy one of these it could be my old one! Missing a serial no. sticker and huge scratches if you get one...

Yes absolutely right - I had one of these about a year ago - it did update to win 10 but even that on a 7 '' tablet is not the tablet experience and too small to do windows stuff on. I have a Surface Pro 3 and that is really just a (work) laptop with a funky keyboard. So this is hot for the price but you need to know what you are going to use it for in the world of windows otherwise you will be underwhelmed and putting it on e-bay quite soon !

5 Jun 16#52
We've got 3 of these and they are fine with Windows 10. In desktop mode you can do pretty much do anything that you can do on a low end PC, and if you feel the need you can use a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard. Connect it up to a monitor/TV and you've got a full blown PC.
On mine I run desktop Firefox and the software/drivers for our WiFi printer, and I know other people have loaded/use Chrome. I keep meaning to install Photoshop CS2
fatdeeman
5 Jun 161#51
Pretty decent tablet for what it is, 5 years ago a £50 tablet was a joke. This can run office and browse the web quite happily and Kodi works great through the HDMI output, it wont play 4k but it will happily play 50gb bluray backups. I've even managed to get photoshop to work on it although with just 1gb of ram there are limits to what it can do.
It's not going to blow anyone away but in terms of capability/cost ratio this breed of tablets hit a new high, there's a lot of things you can do with this and plugged into a tv or monitor it does a fine job of being a media player, running office and browsing. The cpu is obviously designed for efficiency over grunt but it can use hardware decoding for youtube and kodi which takes most of the strain of the processor. It will happily play 1080p youtube videos.
It really depends what you want it for, if you want to use it casually for facebook, browsing and apps like you would a phone then an android device will probably be a much wiser choice but if you want something that's more of an all rounder with more diverse abilities or an ultra budget mini windows PC that just happens to be a tablet too then it makes a lot of sense.

Out of interest, if you were to install RemixOS (or Android) onto this Windows Tablet (&/or the 8"/10" equivalents of the same?), will the RemixOS make/allow a 'Dual-Booting' process?, or will it ask for/demand to take over the whole eMMC Memory/Windows OS & forcibly replace it with RemixOS/Android instead or something?.
I'm seriously interesting to try this method of Dual-Booting either/both a 10" Linx Windows 10 Lite Tablet & 8" Linx Windows 8 Tablet I got a few months ago, but DON'T want to trash my Tablet's on account of RemixOS/Android killing them?.
Is there a viable way of being able to do this? (so I can have both?, or ..... )
Ps.
I've already upgraded the Windows 8.1 that came with both Tablet's to Windows 10 ages ago already now.
Thanx in advance for any help in this regard for any help. :-)

I had one of these when they were £40 new. It's alright if you want a cheap Windows tablet but it will NEVER replace an Android tablet. It's too fiddly to use and the apps available are abysmal! If you want to connect an external hard drive or DVDRW you need a USB hub powered externally (about £6 on Amazon) as the USB port doesn't provide enough juice to power those types of devices. Great tablet for the price though, just as long as you know what you're getting by going with Windows.
Also, I'm pretty sure the free upgrade to Windows 10 ends soon so download it ASAP. The tablet runs so much better on Windows 10.

If you look for it hard enough though, you can find the 8.1 with Bing iso in a few places on the internet. MS keep it tightly hidden because, I believe, that it generates a new valid license key on every device that it is installed on for the first time.

5 Jun 16#30
As far as I'm aware there's no starter edition of Windows 8, therefore no RAM limitation, and you can even use Windows 7 Starter to upgrade to Windows 10 Home as it's a valid upgrade path and we've done this many times in work. Upgraded Windows 7 Starter Edition to WIndows 10 Home, as there's no starter edition of Windows 10.
There are no 2GB RAM limitations with Windows 10, so if you did manage to nick the key which you can do then you can upgrade to Windows 10 Home.
How much RAM does each edition of Windows 10 support?
Windows 10 Home 32 bit 4GB
Windows 10 Home 64 bit 128GB
Windows 10 Pro 32 bit 4GB
Windows 10 Pro 64 bit 512GB

Why would you buy a Windows 10 license? You can legally upgrade this tablet to Windows 10 for free direct from Microsoft's web site. You can also use free Microsoft tools (or even 3rd party ones) to create a factory image, upgrade to Windows 10 before the end of July and you have a full Windows 10 install...

Yes but android keeps on being upgraded (if you are lucky: you may not find an upgrade for you tablet, they are model specific) also lots of the apps also keep being upgraded. Although a lot of apps are free or very low cost, they often show you unrelated ads. Why do so many apps need to access so many of my personal details? Why do they often need to use my location? Spyware seems to abound!
