Very true - capacitive objects like your touch screen will be charged by inductive effects and noise from a bad charger - hence the apps opening, its also possible sometimes to get transfer and charge of what is an unearthed device with components in the RF spectrum (sometimes this can make conductive objects give you a tingle when you touch them) to some quite alarmingly high voltages (over 200 or even 400V), but luckily at almost always safe tiny levels of current.

Your phone defines the charging characteristics of its battery, NOT the charger - despite what they are saying in the marketing the charger side is 'dumb' in that respect.

Since they are all switchmode converters these days I would say its unlikely a low current charger will end up making your phone last noticably longer

Wireless inductive charging however - cooks my phone to horrific temps... so I dont use it lol!

Yes Ive had chargers do that too its usually caused by small fluctuations in the charging voltage i.e. a poor or failed stabalising circuit design

Whist it all varies with device, from my understanding the phone will not continue to charge if it doesn't want to be charged, the phone will very well know its plugged in but won't draw power full whack.

Works with my iPad air, note 2, lg g2 , lg gpad without any issue, as it says on the box it does charge iPad air quicker than other device.

I can confirm that my xiaomi Redmi note 2 hates this charger the screen becomes unresponsive when plugged in. very rarely can I swipe up to unlock the screen. fastest charger the Redmi accepts is about 1.5amps. seems to charger at a ok rate. I'm going to return for a refund tomo.( might try another in the shop as I can hear a buzzing noise from the USB block

Actually it's a common problem with some Android phones when used with certain chargers / charging cables - not exclusive to Nexus 5 at all. I would guess using an official charger / charging cable won't replicate the problem.

I don't believe it's actually the charger. Quite a few threads on Google, XDADevelopers etc forums on erratic charging, phantom screen presses etc with the Nexus 5.

just got mine today, tried it on my nexus 5, doesn't like it at all, seems to charge ok but trying to use the phone while its on charge the phone acts like some "ghost" is randomly opening apps, notication bar, can't even swipe without it opening the apps my thumb is under with the slightest of touches,can't even text as the "ghost" presses random keys !!!

None of these happen when the phone is unplugged from the charger.

Will take it back next week and get a refund.

I am in the same position and also thinking of getting it so I can split the ipads across two chargers and stick the phones on the other ports. The anker 4 port is great charges really fast with the high speed anker cables. also it will mean being able to put all the phones on charge simultaneously

The first bit of that is true to some extent, the latter is nonsense, since all modern phones have regulators. Unless you're talking about really crap chargers from the market, although even they should be fine unless wired up wrong!

important considerations;

batteries prefer a SLOW Charge.... they last longer that way

you should always use the charger that came with your device, as its designed to know when your battery is fully charged and will auto switch off.... generic chargers usually do not and keep sending out power ....

Well I checked mine with a voltmeter and it's fine there's no hint of a rogue voltage on the USB end, I've had it charging four devices all perfectly and I can't hear any humming on mine, the two included cables seem very good quality too, the micro USB one holds very well into the phone which is reassuring so overall I'm very happy with it.

In regards to quick charging I've got my Nexus 5 plugged in right now and it says "charging rapidly" on the screen, quoting 30 minutes to get it from 50% to 100%, that is handy for a phone that over 2 and a half years old now. I can't hear the whining noise anymore also, wonder if it was just because it's brand new. Weird, anyway I'm happy enough with it.

You can't really judge a piece of electronics on the basis that it looks similar to another with a flawed design. The best practice - which has always been true of electronics - is to go with a trusted brand.

A lot of these chargers will look the same as they'll use a fairly generic 'template'; doesn't mean the internals are of the same quality. It's very unlikely that Philips would put out a dangerous charger, but it is likely that they modified a typical OEM housing - I mean, how different can a box with five ports on it look anyway?

I've seen charging blocks on eBay that look almost identical to the Anker ones that EE put out and which are far worse quality inside. Ironically the EE ones were actually really decently put together but were recalled by EE, presumably out of paranoia, while far cr**per eBay ones are still offered for sale.

Basically, don't just a piece of electronics by its cover - if we did that, all SD cards would be fake because they all look the same.

From looking at the video the electrical design of the "horrific USB power supply fault" seemed good and it was most likely a bad batch of transformers that was causing a problem in that specific USB charger.

Do we have any source other than that one Amazon review that says that the 'Icefox' charger does indeed use the same internals as the Swees QY08-05010 that is the "horrific" charger named in the Amazon review?

Does anyone have any thoughts, is this just panicking over nothing, over perhaps unsubstantiated claims?

Got one and the sensor bin I put on hold for 2 weeks now. I'm sure I'll use this charger because I like keeping the original chargers in the bedroom so this will stay in the living room. Some guest who have iPhone will also be happy...

Some of you guys comments about this buzzing or whining made me worry.

But I just picked mine up, plugged it in and am charging my phone and it's totally silent.

Unless the whining develops over time, it seems to be totally silent right now.

Looks pretty good. Hopefully less noisy than my RAVpower one (although, personally, I've never been bothered by the noise from the charger itself - only the noise from my other half moaning about the noise from the charger)

Looks the same as the ones that are regularly on Amazon for £5 to £7. So not really a great bargain, but a normal price once you take the cables into consideration.

Picked mine up not long ago. It does what it says on the tin but annoyingly I can hear a high pitched whine from it, much like people complain about on Anker units. I'll probably just position it out of the way a bit. The cables it comes with (x1 lightning & x1 micro USB) seem very high quality.

I can't remember ever having a 'wall wart' fail :smiley:....but then again, I've yet to use these multi port, high amp plugs.

(With that said, I am on the lookout for a really compact 2 or 3 port charger with a quick charge port. Figure a quick charge USB battery pack is better than a solar panel when cycle touring)

Similar, but MUCH less capable. (Just 3.4 amps max across all 3 ports, vs 8 amps across 5 ports on this Philips one).
