If you read the description then it tells you how to get for the lower prices
So can you place the subscription and then cancel? Or do you have to commit to five items?

You would need to get 5 items or more delivered to get the 15% discount. The discount that you get on the day will depend on how many subscriptions are being sent in the one delivery. You are, of course, free to cancel any subscription at any time so there is no long term commitment to be worried about.
With less than 5 items you get the lower 5% discount but still get free delivery.
