Not an expert on these but seems like a good price for the box and 6 months free entertainment?

Low 720p resolution. Seems like gone back in time to watch old Tv program with poor resolution. Only suitable for small TV as the poor resolution shows on big TV

Are you sure about this ? I think the black one is capable for 1080p.
I already have a black one and a account. can I use the 6 month pass on my current account?

Yes - just hold onto the voucher code until your current one expires and then add it on. I have done this on numerous occasions

Not if you want to watch the NowTV channels. For BBC, ITV, Channel 4 etc, you don't need to register...

i got the black version from Argos last week it came set to 720p, but you can change it to 1080p in the settings.

To set the box up in the first instance you need to sign into a NowTV online a/c during the configuration process.
That NowTV a/c does NOT require a subscription, or the immediate activation of a voucher code.
That said it can be cost effective to sign up to a NEW NowTV a/c via Quidco/TopcashBack and eg take one of the paid channels on (a) trial month (b) paid for ONE MONTH (ie remember to cancel) which then gives you some cashback (hopefully).

7 Jun 16#15
Also remember - eg in BBC iPlayer to set it to Highest Quality settings as default.

Its for use streaming data from the Internet with ANY ISP's Internet connection, well as long as you have around 2.5Mbps to devote to its steaming. So if you're getting your Internet Service from Provider Sky/Virgin/BT/Plusnet/SSE/whoever you can use it.
The only potential issue is that it is streaming entertainment data - that's usually a LOT of data so if your ISP connection is NOT unlimited data you MAY have problems/costs.

Hi thanks for my deal edit (I think someone did it!). I posted it twice as wasn't sure if the post worked on the app so apologies if lacking in detail originally.
Was in store (Southall). Cheers!

Actually even the original white 720p version was quite usable on a 55" 1080p screen, though best at 40". This new black 1080p model is just dandy on 55" 1080p, and a lot more reliable with a wired Ethernet connection (rather than WiFi).

Whilst I was in Tesco (Southall), I noticed a NOW TV Rep walking around, so it's possible this only went live today (he may well have been tweaking the displays/POS tickets). Tesco had at least 3 or 4 other NOW TV options (Sky Sports 2 day pass, 2 months free, 3 months free etc) as well, so probably worth checking your local store for the various options. HTH.

Now TV output is 720p, as in the sky catchup content.
i have a 1080p 46inch tv, and NowTV looks fine on it.
Its hardly poor resolution.
would be nice if it was 1080 admittedly.
I believe some other apps can output in 1080p, but nowtv content is limited to 720p

Bought the deal from Argos last week, Sky to be cancelled on the 28th. This is the way forward!
Anyone know if there is a expiry date on the codes? My current six month deal expires in December and was going to get another one. I didn't think of looking when I used my last one and have since thrown the box and contents away.

I'm not sure that's true unless it has changed very recently. I have an old white box which when it first came out I was able to half register and then use it. However now they have fixed the bug and you have to register an account with a credit or debit card to use the device at all. You can then ask to have your card details removed but no card, not registration and thus no logging onto the box. Its an unpopular pain but true.

Who's still buying these for the box? Just getting it for the code!!

Is this the box 2 version? Does this do 1080p native from Sky? Would I be better off with a fire stick? Ta
jamhole
8 Jun 16#34
it is box 2.
no, the best it will do is 720p for Sky content
No idea, depends on what you would use this box for v what you would use a fire stick for.

8 Jun 16#35
If you can use the code on a Fire TV Stick that may be a better option (it's certainly smaller). I am not sure if the codes that come with the boxes are specifically tied to NOW TV boxes though? Perhaps someone can post an answer?

Used to find that with the old white Now tx box - streaming quality of the services was pretty poor and pixelated. However I've been using one of the newer boxes recently, and the picture quality is excellent.

Ah - sorry, I was getting mixed up with my Roku box which is plugged into the same TV as my Fire stick! Can the codes be used on Roku boxes then?

8 Jun 161#41
You do realise that even if you had actual Sky HD that the channels are broadcast in 1080i, so essentially 720p?
In any event it is bitrate that matters. A high quality 720p video can be superior to 1080p.

Just to let you know that the children's channels are being removed from the Entertainments pass from 21st June and a separate kids pass will be available at £2.99 pcm. Sky... pulling your pants down and going in dry since 1989 http://www.nowtv.com/kids

If true, how do they know when you bought it? I want to buy one for the code, to use for the next season of Game of Thrones, which I presume would be summer 2017.I'm already one month in to a 3 month pass, so wouldn't use this deals voucher until required.
Thanks.

Sky is 1080i / 720p
It's debatable whether 720p or 1080i provides the better image - in reality it depends on your TV's picture processing abilities.
edit: And what you're watching - fast moving scenes / sports better in 720p, Emerdale better in 1080i (or better still, with the TV switched off :stuck_out_tongue:).

You can input the code in the last month of your current pass, if you wait until it expires you'll pay full price for the month inbetween

Since these deals usually sell out pretty fast if you miss out on any of them or are tired of the mountain of small black boxes rising up in the spare room, you can search "6 months NOW TV entertainment pass" on eBay and easily find vouchers only from long standing sellers for the same kind of price £18.00 - £21.00, same with movies and sports. I did that when the recent Argos offer exact same as this one wasn't available anywhere near me. I picked up a 6 months voucher for £19.95 and a 3 months one for £9.00. To me that's a better option as I've got countless boxes just gathering dust and the vouchers are always in stock. Just standard NOW TV ones, not the Carling special offer ones or any other short time limited ones that were floating around for a while. I don't know how SKY make any money out of NOW TV as even at best a fully paying customer gets SKY channels for a fraction of the cost of signing up to a SKY contract and more commonly, people mostly never pay NOW/SKY for their vouchers at anywhere near the already discounted price they officially cost as there's always so many offers knocking 50%+ off.

Yes. The codes go against your Now TV account, and the Roku has a Now TV app. Roku is probably the best value streamer on the market now as it is the only box that supports Amazon Video, Netflix and Now TV

As I understand it there isn't a published specific date for the vouchers and they don't have a formal expiry date - otherwise it would be printed on the voucher!
The public policy is that the Now.tv account system will automatically accept a voucher code for at least a year from when the box/voucher was bought [ie probably 15-18m after the vouchers were generated allowing for boxes to be 3-6 months 'in wholesale/retail system'].
After that 12 months period the automated system MAY well accept the code, and if it won't then you would then need to get in touch online with their support staff to get the voucher code manually validated/redeemed - ie time/hassle/uncertainty which doesn't apply during the year.
Certainly a movies voucher from 2014 Xmas worked for me for 2015 Xmas, ie 12 months later.

Hi all, I got this deal last week from my local Argos. New to Now TV but set it all up great and now have the 6 month entertainment plan up and running.
This obviously doesn't include movies but I see there is a deal where you get a 14 day trial. Have any of you done this? Is it easy to cancel at the end of free period so as not to incur charges?
mk-donald
12 Jun 16#67
Absolutely - you can just access your Now.tv and say about half a dozen times that "yes you want to cancel", that you really are sure, absolutely/really do want to cancel... Your trial sub will continue to be active until the end of the trial period. During that multi-step cancellation they MAY well offer you deal(s) for prepaying for 'n' months at discounted monthly cost as inducement not to give up on Movies!
