When it launched on the Wii U the promo price for games like Super Metroid and F Zero was around 30p I believe  So yeah, there have been really good deals, just few and far between for Nintendo's first party releases.

Heat from me, some great deals on there. Pullblox for £2.69 is a steal! I might pick up Dillon's Rolling Western for £4.49, I've had my eye on it since it was released but never got around to buying it.

I'm guessing the n64 versions are ports?
ThriftyMcNifty
7 Jun 16 #27
Yeah, they're the same game, the title's just different because of regional variations as others have said. It's a good platformer/puzzler and it's got a level builder (with qr codes to share them) so there's loads of replay-ability if you feel inclined to make your own levels or play some made by others
jeccius
7 Jun 16 #28
If you go onto the game in the 3DS shop (through your 2DS), when you scroll to the bottom of the page (where the buy button normally is) if it's not compatible you'll have a greyed out "Available for xxxx console" type message.

The standard 3DS titles should in theory work fine however

Is the eshop like playstation store where if your Wii U dies you can buy a new one and put you profile on and download all you bought games, or is it like the Wii where if the console died you lost everything? Wikipedia says you can download as many times as you want as long as it's still available in the e-shop, but doesn't say about on different consoles
reddragon105
7 Jun 16 1 #42
Is there any advantage to getting the Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii U eShop over having a Wii retail release? Asides from not having to put the disc in and go to the Wii menu to launch it.

It's more like the Playstation Store these days - they changed it a couple of years ago so that games are tied to your account rather than the console, as long as you have setup and linked a Nintendo Network ID. Although they do like you to do system transfers, so if a console broke you'd have to phone them and ask them to unlink your account before you could link it to a new console, which is a bit inconvenient but their customer service hotline is pretty quick and painless.

Well given that I already have it! Although I suppose if I could sell it for £50 and buy it for £8.99 I'd be £41.01 richer... But any advantages like being able to play it on the Gamepad?
m3racer123
7 Jun 16 #48
The games are linked to your NNID, so if your console breaks, Nintendo will transfer all your purchases over to a replacement console with the same ID. Your game saves, however...

I'd highly recommend it!
reddragon105
7 Jun 16 #61
Yeah, I was a bit disappointed that the first two Metroid Prime games couldn't be played with a GameCube controller on the Wii versions. I mean they did a pretty good job of implementing the Wii remote motion controls but it would have been nice to have the option of playing Metroid Prime the way I first played it, especially given how awesome the GC controller is and that the Wii had ports for it. With the Wii U they could have made it playable with GC controllers via the adapter or just on the Gamepad. But no, 'cause Nintendo.

They've only released 12 SNES games on the 3DS so far and they're pretty much all good, although none of them are on sale (well, Zelda Link to the Past is on sale for the Wii U, but the games aren't cross buy between platforms unfortunately). The best games on sale for the 3DS are any of the Mario or Zelda games for the Virtual Console and Shin Megami Tensei IV if you like RPGs.
m3racer123

Yeah

Specifically for the 3DS :
Gunman Clive - £0.99
Dillon's Rolling Western is good value at under a fiver. You even get Gold Coins with this purchase
Steamworld Dig is one of the best games for the 3DS. It's short but very highly rated
Zen pinball is a very good pinball game for the 3DS and has good 3D visuals of the tables.
Pullblox is a fantastically creative puzzle game that'll really tax your brain in a good way in the later stages. Great new IP that was sadly ignored as new IP by gaming press and gamers alike.
Dillon's Rolling Western. Fun new IP (again ignored as new IP) which provides a twist to the tower defence genre and focuses on skillful touchscreen gaming

These games are ancient and ive already paid £40+ for them on cart/disc back in the day. These should be free to entice people to buy into the Nintendo eco system - much like Apples App store.

Charge loads for new games aye, but not for 20 year old **** or indie shovelware.

Heat added! I'm going to buy a few of these. The mad thing is it must be like the 28th time I've bought some of these titles on various consoles. Mario 64 for example. But for the price of a pint it's got to be worth a 29th purchase. Damn you Nintendo.

These games on the sale are ports from previous consoles and handhelds. They will probably work well. I personally just emulate them on my phone. Works just as well and I have more control over my game. They are not exclusively made for 3ds. You could pick up games for the 3ds off argos. I got Pokemon Omega Ruby for £35.

Yes, DK64 has not aged well admittedly - but titles like Mario World, Bros 3, or Link to the Past are genuinely timeless, even now.

This is awesome. Slightly gutted that I've already got a bunch of them. For some reason I can't get on well with Donkey Kong 64 on Wii U like I did on the N64. It took me 7 attempts to get Diddy to walk across a narrow platform. Either my gamepad isn't working well with the game or I'm forgetting how imprecise the controls were back in the day. Not as smooth as Mario 64 or Banjo.

9 Jun 16 #109
Since the WiiU is discontinued now, I'm wondering if Nintendo will do what they did with the Wii and not allow game transfers/cross-purchases to the new platform/system. In which case, any new Virtual Console purchases are kind of short-lived.
Illusionary
9 Jun 16 1 #110
It isn't.

Even if the rumours of production stopping later this year are true, that doesn't mean that the console will no longer be sold or supported.
Hedja
9 Jun 16 #111
Even if it's not strictly discontinued, looking at the current line up of new releases, it's definitely being phased out similar to the Wii's state a few years before the WiiU was released. There's no notable first party games being released until Zelda in 2017 which will also be available on their new system.

My point is, any VC purchases now will not be a long-term investment for those planning to buy the next system. Unless if Nintendo announce cross-purchases. Which, going by their history, is unlikely.
Illusionary
9 Jun 16 #112
That's certainly a risk, agreed. However, as we now have the Nintendo account system and NNIDs, hopefully we could see VC purchases carrying forward - don't write off the possibility just yet

Oh, and FWIW, Paper Mario: Colour Splash is a notable planned 2016 release for Wii U. We also have Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE due imminently.

Mobizzle186
9 Jun 16 #117
Does anyone know if the purchase gives you a download code or if it connects directly to your NNID only?
Illusionary
9 Jun 16 #118
eShop purchases are done via the console and connect the game directly to your account/console - just as with the PSN Store and Xbox Marketplace.
PGS
10 Jun 16 3 #119
I don't see the problem, my WII U doesn't have a timed killswitch in it which will activate upon the NX release. I'll simply keep my WII U and retain access to all my downloaded games, you can have more than one console. I'd also like to think that if my WII U dies in a year or two, Nintendo would transfer my downloads to any new Wii U that I purchase.

Why are you even on this deal? If you just steal things anyway I'm not sure this is the site for you, five finger discount works in shops, until you get caught...

there is lag issues with the control pad compared to the old wired connection, I have the same problem when I play older games.

Sure it's not cos you already own it on the Wii? If the price is purple, it's a discount because of this. If it's red, it's on sale.

It usually automatically downloads, I believe.

I did deliberately miss out Cubeworld and Touch Golf as they're only 30% and 25% off respectively.

The price came up all pink on screen, will check my Wii if do own it...most likely I do that's why I got it at the price

Thanks, I purchased Zelda oracle of ages and seasons for the 3DS

11 Jun 16 #136
I'm not so sure about that tbh. Imo the deals in the price should be standard. These are very old games and you get better value elsewhere imo which are more developed and tossed as free to promote newer titles or highly reduced. I did end up getting Super Mario Bros since it was a classic I didn't really play. If things were more appropriately priced then I'd be more tempted, otherwise I'd rather get newer or barely old but highly discounted titles.

Ah, to own so many games you forgot what you own

minish cap isn't available for the 3ds in the eshop. The list needs amending,

Bit a weird question, but if I buy from the nintendo website rather than from my 3DS, can I pay via Paypal?
bernardsfingers
16 Jun 16 #140
You can only add funds or pay for digital downloads on the Nintendo website using either Visa or Mastercard.

Just ordered a few of these - OoT, SM64, DK64, Minish Cap and Super Metroid!
Illusionary
23 Jun 16 #142
I appreciate that this reply is somewhat delayed, but by way of explanation for anyone who may not be aware - The Minish Cap is available for Wii U, not 3DS. This is the case for GBA downloads more widely - they're available only for the Wii U.

Regardless, agreed that its placement on the list ought to be moved.

I was about to get the Wii out of the back room then... Have they given up on it completely now?
